Short and sweet, Game hacked, Ticket created and closed #150314-000131, Case closed by ESO stating they sucessfully restored my account to its rightful owner (me), only one problem, cant log in as the hackers changed my password/settings. Nothing in email telling me how to get back ingame.

Hacked 20 hours ago. case closed 7 hours ago.

Just want to play. :)

although they might have restored your account a few hours ago, are you sure you did your part as well?

remove any sign of unwanted viruses that might still be there per say.

even if the account was to be returned to you it wont be worth anything if the guy hacking you is still on your pc. dont forget to scan your pc
alot of people look at this signature, i guess youre one of them.

    Was hacked while ingame.

Everything on my computer is secure. Just can't get back ingame as the hacker changed my password and it appears my security questions also. Changed settings on my email to 2 verifys for any changes as it was hacked (email) from South Korea.

If I knew, i'd say. One guildy has had his entire guild wiped and picked clean.
I was INGAME playing when I was randomly disconnected, not fighting or doing anything. Tried to log back in and my password was changed. This was within 20 seconds of being disconnected. I have very strong internet connections (cable) so it was not a random disconnect.

    You tell me. :/

Changing a password and security questions generates an e-mail to verify you've done this, so you should of received notification by e-mail when this happened. As far as you account getting hacked, you might want to check and make sure your add-ons are from a valid source, and of course, never buy gold from those gold sellers.

You might want to check your email account too, because what @Ackwalan states is true. Your email may have been hacked, and that's how they managed to get your account.

OK time line is as follows,

My email account was hacked (according to their timeline, the report I have access to on my email account is min by min) AFTER my account was hacked while playing ESO.

My pass word (in ESO) is very strong and is 12 digits long and is considered strong based on standards. (no its not God :) )

They changed my email account (from South Korea and this WAS relayed to ESO as soon as I noticed it) to actually intercept ESO messages ( I saw one get deleted as I was viewing it on my cell) to prevent me from stopping their crime.

Bottom line is it has been 24 hours since I first reported a "hacked" account, I was told I would get a phone call, I, instead got an email stating "YES" your account has and was compromised but we restored it to you. End of story.

I can't log in as my password was reset by hackers. Can't play.

    Sad face :'(

Tend to agree with that comment, HOWEVER, in trying to get ESO to fix this and receiving 7 messages via email in lieu of the promised phone calls from 11am to 2 pm PST (from ESO) on Saturday March 14th I'm a little upset on the response(s) when it comes to a HACKED account. And them telling me that my account has been restored (WOO HOO) which I CAN'T access makes me feel like I have been hit with a disorient spell and I'm confused as to why I can't play.

I think a Hacked account really deserves a phone call to make sure all is well in Tameriel.

This needs to be a policy change in ESO In my opinion for hacked accounts

Can I just play my account?

    PLEASE

Is that too much to ask. o:)

Watching that. Already on watch due to AMEX and Home Depot hacks. They paying for that (on my CC accounts) so added bonus at no expense to me.

Thanks for pointing it out though.

There are two ways your account got hacked. Either your computer is compromised with a key logger or your email account was directly hacked. This can occur is a variety of ways. If you clicked on a link, downloaded any suspect attachments or browsed to a compromised website, malware/key logger can be installed on your machine. It's very unlikely a random hacker brute forced your account and email passwords. In any case, I'd wipe my hard drive and do a fresh operating system install and then change my email password. Then recontact ZOS to have them send you a reset password link to your email.

If only they would call like they said they would I would not be posting in the forums.

If YAH SAY YAH WILL CALL..........................CALL :) one phone call of 2 mins (*it has happened before with other problems I have encountered) could and WOULD fix this issue.

    to much to ask for??

(ps, this computer is ONLY for gaming) nothing else on this computer. Thanks for the pointers as other could benefit from insight.

I guess this is a Friday the 13th pox on me since this is when it happened :(

    Update,

Yes I was hacked. Shout out to Gamemaster Moonbean <3<3 , I think he moonlights for the NSA as he is busy tracking tons and tons of items stolen from not only my account but associated Guild banks and guild stores.

Said the process would take 2 or 3 days to complete.

I'm all for public flogging of gamers ( Imperial City add on maybe?? >:) that do this but have been informed its against the rules.

So if you see a naked Tattooed Sorc running around in Craglorn farming mats with a level 43 bow that may be me B) dang hard to fill all my missing soul gems but still fun Ha ha

All my sympathy to those who get their accounts compromised, but let's try and avoid turning this around on the developers. A compromised account is 100% the responsibility of the user (except in rare instances of company-wide compromises, which we would have to be informed of anyway), and it's important for that user to take the necessary steps to secure their computer and all online accounts.

ZO restores compromised accounts. Which is nice, but it is not their duty. So it would be nice if people could be patient with the GMs during a restoration process.

Umm, Maybe try a more secure password, Like my password for the stuff that matters is 36 chars long, And the security answers have nothing to do with the questions because if the person knows you it is likely they will know things like 'your childhood home phone number' or 'your first cats name.' Then again I an paranoid as Sh*t so...

    Just some advice :)

Which is good advice, but bear in mind that a hacker is rarely going to attempt to brute-force a password these days. It's highly inefficient, and most sites/games have lockouts to prevent a brute-force attempt from being successful.

Unless you're being compromised by someone who actually knows you, the assumption should be that the compromise happened via malware or phishing (or both).

Looks like someone might have had a keystroke logger on your machine. As others posted, recommend getting strong AV suite and making sure your machine is free of viruses and spyware.

For sure, but judging that his security questions were changed I am willing to assume that it was someone he knows and that just watched him type it in and guessed the security questions.

Targeted malware for a game like this is not ideal unless you have designed the malware for a specific target. The fact that his email has not been compromised tells me phishing or someone he knows.

Can't say how I was compromised but lets just say my password was NOT guessed, nor is my computer available to anyone but myself (well me and my Dog, but I'm reasonably sure that he was not involved) o:) were you King? (looks over at him, hes asleep and does not respond, typical dog!!) :p

10 minutes AFTER I was forced out of the game (I was playing at the time of my account being hacked) my email (linked to my ESO account) account was also hacked (Smart hackers located in Florida, Taiwan AND South Korea) to intercept ESO emails to continue holding my account. Actually saw an email (from ESO) get erased on my cell phone as i was reading it :# Once I figured this aspect out I updated that security to include a phone message/reply from that company to verify any/all changes to my account (Idea for ESO and ZOS maybe?)

I do now have an even stronger password.

Key logging software often rides in on viruses or worms, and it is very prevalent in online gaming.

And it can be very difficult to detect.

It is good you have a better password now, But just because they 'hacked' you while you were in game, does not mean that they got your password then. Hackers look for the correct time and assume you are at work or sleeping so there is very little you can do before they are done with your account.

And they were likely not in those locations, They were likely using tor or a pay as you go VPN. It would take a lot of work to trace them. Keep in mind that tor is free and you can get a new ip in a new country with a single click. Meaning that they likely were not a 'they' but a single person.

Think about who you have had over recently, what websites you have logged into, do you use the same password everywhere or completely different ones?

    Think on it...

    Hey there @floorconub17_ESO,

We definitely understand that being hacked is frustrating, but discussing account actions is a violation of our Community Rules, so we're going to close this thread.
