Ive been playing mmorpg's and other online games for more than ten years. EQ 2 on Nagafen was my all time favorite place to be for several years. I actually didn't know there were good quality games like ESO out there anymore although I have searched for a long time.

The only thing I don't like about it is that apparently it is going to become a buy to play with an optional membership fee . Having just come from Rift , this is similar to how Trion does their games including Archeage except you can download the game for free, sadly both games leave much to be desired at this point. I am a pay to play advocate based on experience, they are generally better managed with less problems in the long run.

It took a lot for me to drop the $60 for ESO but I have no regrets and will likely continue with the plus membership subscription as well.

The quality of the game is top notch. Having everyone on the same server is the best idea ever. The game is not some dumb down theme park and is immersive enough to keep me interested. The voice overs are great on the quests and the storyline is actually interesting as well as the whole 3 faction thing similar to DOAC.
And of course the pvp , the crown jewel of this game.

I suspect I will be staying here for a while as this game has surpassed my expectations.

Pleased to meet all of you.

Best Regards.

I've said it again and again. TESO is not a perfect game, it has suffered from questionable moves and expected first year bugs, some of which are still with us to this day.

That being said, TESO still has the most potential of any MMO in the last 10 years. Which is why I have been subbed from day 1 and will remain so after the 17th.

So I am glad you as a brand new player already feel like you may support it with a continued monthly sub. Welcome to the community!

That's exactly what ESO is. A theme park.

And the longer you play the more you recognize that your statement of ESOs "quality" is unfortunately not true. I wish it would be true, but it isn't. Play beyond 50 and you'll see the real issues of the game.

From 1-50 ESO is good, but after that... yeah, don't be disappointed.

Don't mind Seraphyel, he's one of the jaded and vocal types.

I've played since 3rd phase beta, only really played one guy since I love completionist stuff so I ride with around 68 days played.

With that said, I still love this game, and I'm having fun with a group of RL friends. If you go in this game hoping for one thing done better than any other game, you won't be happy, but if you go in hoping for a vast experience (dungeons, story, rpg element, crime/theiving, PvP, crafting, exploring, grinding, raids, playing the economy, and messing around) where taken as a whole it's a better game overall, you'll obviously enjoy the game.

I'd even say it's better than most of the 23 MMO's I've played as far back as since Meridian 59. That includes the ones I've tried which don't fit that count as they were failures from the get-go.

All MMO's encounter problems the first 2 years before polish is concrete, it's the nature of the beast. More simple by design games will polish sooner, it has to do with the grandness of the game in its scope.

Welcome to ESO as you're the first of what will be an influx of "Hi, I'm new" threads.

This is the case. In general, after the first year of an MMO, forums tend to be populated with the jaded and upset people who post ad nauseum so others will share in their torment. It then only makes it stronger when they find other people who agree, and it produces an embellished false reality.

I could write a book on the socio aspects when reading and gauging the player base with regard to the forums and how it changes from in the game.

Your best bet is stay away from the forums.

    Not really.

After one year only "loyal" players are left that are frustrated about the way their favorite game is developed. Guys like me wouldn't be here if we hadn't interest in ESOs improvement.

There are some negative points that can't be denied, I just mentioned them instead of being a smooth talker.

ESO has its good and its bad parts.

Also, take your time playing the game. Enjoy the journey. I personally recommend playing separate characters from 1-50 in each alliance area in order to see the separate quest-lines as they are intended to be seen, and only then consider playing them beyond 50 through the cross-alliance quest-lines. However, that is down to individual preference.

It's a good game indeed, and a bit of a grower actually.

My favourite thing about it is that it's really got a strong "virtual world" feel about it - only GW2 of other modern MMOs has anything comparable. It actually feels like a place, as opposed to a bunch of tiny zones strung together, as so many MMOs these days do.

Also, the way the quests are laid out and the way they're written - both great. In ESO I never feel like I'm being shoved from one quest dispenser to another, but more like I'm just wandering the world and happen to come across things. I mean, I know it's illusion, and a pretty thin one, but most MMOs don't even bother disguising it at all, whereas this one has a bit of style and art about it.

And the writing is just really consistently rather good throughout - quite dark, with some dark humour, just like the single-player TES games, so giving you a feeling of continuity with them.

Thank you for all of the great feedback and warm welcome.

For those of us who at some point over the last decade were lucky enough to find a mmorpg worth putting our time and effort into , repeating that experience has been a somewhat daunting task . Searching through and trying so many failures on the market today has left people like myself wondering if game developers even care about making an honest effort anymore.

ESO shows the most promise Ive seen in a very long time and I feel like I can put my time into the game and enjoy it. If I didn't think it would be worth it over the long haul I never would have purchased the game in the first place.

The one thing , at least back in the day that made mmorpgs what they were intended to be was community. One world on a single mega server means that were all in the same place and this is the single most important aspect of ESO IMHO for all the right reasons , drama included.

Thinking back on some of the past mmorpg drama makes me lol. Drama FTW , makes me want to break out the popcorn. I'm sure most of you have those fond memories as well.

Welcome aboard! I think that this game comes closest to offering what you're looking for, though non will ever recapture the good ole days when everyone was in character in a sense, trying to be a living part of the world. Community was great then. I think social media and texting changed the way people communicate and has carried over to the gaming world.

I tend to try and ignore chat and play the game my way. I do see reminders of DAoC in this game, much more so than say, Gw2. Glad you're hear, you'll help contribute to keeping it a good community around here, unlike these whiners.

Every game forum has these guys, and they hate the game and are mad and hang around forever letting everyone know.

Perhaps that is because they open up your eyes to many things that go on behind the scenes that you wouldn't otherwise know.

I envy you, the first character is a blast and you've got a solid 3-9 months of fun ahead of you depending on your play style.

We're all kinda iffy about the BOP, it depends on how it's executed. Expanding to consoles pretty much required it.

In theory Megaservers look great, in reality it's different. The concept may be good but not the way it is brought into most games.

The chats are flooded with a dozen different languages - that may be different on the NA server due to the fact everybody speaks English, but the EU server is a mess. English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Swedish, Polish, the chat is full of languages you don't / can't understand. Yes, there may be different chats but it's nevertheless a mess.

ESO shows literally not much. If you started playing at launch, you would know that. I would like to say that ESOs future is bright, but it isn't. Zenimax didn't deliver in the first year, they announced a dozen amazing things and gave us nothing. Development in the last 11 months has been slow and lazy, Q&A has been mediocre at best and we are starving on content for 6 months now and there won't be content in the next 3-4 months.

I don't know ESOs future after console launch, but the time from release to console launch was anything but great or awesome.

They gave us an unfinished product at launch and they could not polish it in the first year, that's quite a pity but it's the truth. And it's just not right to say that MMORPGs need 1 or 2 years to be "fine" in the end, there are other (new) MMORPGs that tell a different story.

I had high hopes for ESO but I (and hundredthousands of others) were disappointed by the results and tbh nothing changed yet. Some people may call me a naysayer or "jaded" or whatever, but I prefer telling facts instead of being a smooth talker. The game is good to very good from 1-50 (with your first character) but after you reach 50, it decreases in quality, motivation and fun due to some design concepts that were made without thinking about them.

I have to agree with this, thus far. I've started a few characters and haven't made it past 20 just yet. I'm always getting sidetracked to explore some cave, delve, etc or see if there's any prof goodies tucked away somewhere.

That aside, the voice acting coupled with the questlines is just phenomenal. I actually feel like I'm a part of Tamriel, like I'm a mercenary with extraordinary power that can help so many people. The quests are engaging and immersive. No "collect 20 bear butts" or "for no logical reason, kill 20 of these".
I'm also not "fighting" other players for quest mobs/loot! If I happen upon someone fighting a tough mob and their health is low, I jump right in to heal them and help finish the fight- and get credit to boot! If I encounter others in a delve or such and we're headed in the same direction, most times it's just an unspoken knowledge that we're headed to the end together. I don't leave them to fight a mob alone while I go on ahead. I help/wait for them.
Not everyone plays this way, I'm sure. I had someone run ahead of me to get a quest item behind a "mini-boss". I was near death and instead of helping me, they left. The "targeting" system wouldn't allow me to see their name because the boss was in my face so I couldn't tell them how much of a jerk move that was.

In conclusion, not everyone enjoys MMOs the same. There will be many who love ESO and by the same token, many will hate it. It's the nature of the beast. My only hope is that ZoS pays attention to the ones who make their paycheck possible and stop with these disrespectful responses to legitimate concerns. (i.e. "we know")
