Thorn Fighting Today - 3/12/15

So yea, this is not pointed at any player or faction...everyone is getting this, im sure.

But, surprise, there was Lag while PvP'ing!

Happened on Thornblade, 6:30pm pst, @ Roebeck, the last keep required for EP to crown. In situations like this, there is no choice but to "zerg" this keep, on all sides (Red trying to capture, Yellow trying to defend).

This screenshot is both factions on the keep flags...damage not registering, most Ulties wont activate, LOTS of standards, basically can not do anything.

[img][/img]img

Next thing we know, 1/2 of group Disconnects at the same time. Damage starts to register, and i have 4 Standards, from the same player, on my Death Recap. EP Crowns Emp. See below.

[img][/img]img

I know this happens everyday. Im just frustrated. That is all.

In conclusion...please fix this, or there is a good chance you will loose some (if not lots) of the player base who log into this game for PvP.

Thank you.

I think when the lag gets this bad the game should automatically settle the keep by a 200 way game of paper-rock-scissors, randomly matching 2 opponents until only 1 is left, and that alliance caps.

It's a pity that EP cannot play this game without exploiting. Just watched the *** lag repair the postern at Aless. They lag the game on purpose.... it's sad to see.

Cyrodiil is unbelievably glitched lagged and broken, and you guys blame it on each other when the fault is on ZOS's end, grow up... Really. If Cyrodiil is like this at console release then the game will be a laughing stock... At least on the PvP end, you guys gotta stop yelling at each other and yell at the problems.

I agree, the lag is rarely as bad when fighting AD. Also annoys me when you work hard all week then wake up to no scrolls and a red map to destroy 7 days of hard work in a few hours, would be close to the number one reason following lag as to why AD/DC players are leaving.

I'm to the point I rarely even bother with messing with keeps anymore. It's a waste of time, between the lag, useless siege, and pathetic strength of walls and npc, its just a numbers game.

Tonight I helped defend my first keep in awhile, EP are like bugs for every one you kill got two to replace em. At one point, I saw my kill counter was at 60 and EP still just pouring in, the whole damn keep became a flood of red against the maybe 20 dc who tried to fight and we held for awhile, i was surprised how long we held, but no way gonna win that in the games current state.

The lack of forward camps hurt DC more then any other faction as we simply lack the numbers to zerg as big of numbers as the other two puts us at a significant disadvantage.

I'm sorry but when you rack up 60 kills and 54 killing blows and god knows how many the other peeps killed and you still can't hold a keep, as the red flood just continues, why even bother wasting my time. its obvious the number disadvantage is to the point of ridiculousness.

The pop bars are not accurate, you will be hard pressed to find a DC defense of more then 30+ in the last few months, AD and EP Marshall zergs of 45+ on a daily basis.

Hopefully the b2p will bring DC some seriously needed new people.

Yesterday we were at this point, too. Thornblade Eu has the same problems. Our group of about 10 people then went on a tour to clear all the dolmens (I know, PvE in Cyro ... but I can't help it, it's there and PvP didn't work). Guess what ... we arrived at one of them, the anchor started, the daedra appeared... and took no damage for minutes.

It's not only the keep fights anymore, since 1.6 it's everywhere and you don't even need large groups around you. It's even in the PvE cities now, Mournhold bank is laggy as hell at times.

If there isn't a solution for this, the arrival of Tamriel Unlimited will end in disaster. The negative reports may even kill the revenues to a point where the game cannot survive. Players do not have any reason to stay if they can't play the content.

It honestly seems like ESO becomes unplayable for every keep when there is a good amount defending and attacking. Hell, today at Nikel gate damage wasn't registering, PvP pretty much is unplayable if there is more than 20 players in an area.

The stress test on PTS was a complete failure, and there was never another test. The server crashed 5 times, once every 10 minutes.

    This is what went live.

Add in the classic deadlock lag styles that EP is well known for perfecting long before 1.6, and the game drops a deuce on itself in such a grand fashion that you would think we are in alpha testing.

I would only hope that some devs play on thornblade incognito so they can see this first hand, because I don't think anyone can understand how terrible this is by listening to someone describe it.

Panda is right. DC used to be the "exploiters" and AD before them. They get rid of Deer and Glowing Insects, and yet these lags still happen because they don't know how to process the amount of integers we shell out en masse.

But no, it's the "group of well-known exploiters"(sorry, lagsploiters; cute name btw) who have figured out how to make the game break in their favor. It must be, as there is a science to this exploit. Right? Spam AOE at a specific place! It maths the server until the opposing team lags out! Oh no, wait. It must be the MIGHTY DEE TICK!

No. It's allocated network space being processed under a limited filter between multiple servers that keep the game going. There is no single "MEGA SERVER", but several parts of a larger network that communicate using servers. Read this:

We actually had a long conversation about this last night in TS. There were quite a few blues last night getting into outposts with the walls @ 100% with a broken ass mechanic that we have reported 100x and now they made even easier for a DK to do.

One of my guildmates had screenshots of the people actually doing it, like full on proof of them exploiting through walls and the forum police shut it down.

It comes down to the fact that ZOS does not enforce any type of rules in PvP, so the kiddies are going to cheat to win.

Same way they will go to the FoTM every time and use bugs like nirnhorn and lag the server to "win". The server technology is bad enough without people spamming spells to slow it down, but they will do anything to get that advantage over their 'enemies' cause *** real yo.

    It's both, actually.

Not sure why that is such a reach for some of you.

Yes, the servers are *** and lag occurs for that reason... BUT players have been exploiting the *** servers for months now... and currently it's the EP on Thorn that are the prime culprit of this.

I'll just leave this here in case any of you haven't seen it yet. I feel it pertains to this topic:
    Hello everyone,

Our Cyrodiil performance is something we are very aware of. Performance drags when there are numerous players in the same place at the same time. This is why performance in Cyrodiil is fine for much of the day, but gets worse during more popular times. We are currently investigating ways in which we can reduce the spike of performance loss. We added in some features for Update 6 which we hoped would help, but ultimately did not. This is not a situation where we can just add more hardware. Player population in a given area hurts the performance and the more people that are in one area, the more performance is going to be hurt.

Actively, we are looking at changing the behavior of the players to remove incentives for large groups to stay in the same area. We want to do this by providing larger incentives for Alliances to split up and take on multiple-challenges in Cyrodiil. We’ll continue to work on this. We are also asked by players if there is anything they can do to help. In this situation, the best thing you can do is split off to different objectives when you notice performance going down. Cyrodiil is a big place with lots of different things to do. And thank you for asking.

Well, it's hard to tell when he mindlessly jumps in to defend known EP lagsploiters.

Personally, I'm not sure how anyone can deny that specific groups of players have purposefully lagged the server to exploit it's poor performance...

And you're absolutely right, it's ZOS' inability to police the "kiddies" (who are sadly all grownups) that has allowed PvP to devolve into it's current state (among other things...).

    Hello everyone,
... Performance drags when there are numerous players in the same place at the same time...
Admitting that there is a problem. Good.
... We added in some features for Update 6 which we hoped would help, but ultimately did not...
Admitting that they don't know how to fix it. Disheartening, but commendably honest.
... Actively, we are looking at changing the behavior of the players to remove incentives for large groups to stay in the same area...
This says that they are probably not going to be able to fix it, ever, and that if people don't start playing the game differently they will try to force them to change. Fine, it's a redesign that tries to work from what they have instead of chasing a distant goal that seems impossible to reach. Given the circumstances, I think it's their only choice.

The big problem here is that they still advertise ESO the way it was done a year ago: as having "massive battles", with the gameplay designed around having lots of people on both sides. Players come here expecting a very different game from what they get, and it would be wise to change the marketing now to avoid making even more people disappointed.

    Quoted from http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/game-guide/the-alliance-war :
The Elder Scrolls Online supports hundreds of players on screen at once in an open world fight for control of Cyrodiil.
    ...
    Massive, Epic Battles

The Elder Scrolls Online features the largest PvP battles seen in a major online RPG. The game supports hundreds of onscreen players in epic battles. Swords and axes collide, spells and powers illuminate the ground and sky, and fires rage on embattled stronghold walls. Will you survive these epic battles? Can your overwhelming force take the keep, or will you be forced to retreat?

The Elder Scrolls Online is built to accommodate hundreds of players onscreen at once.

The mantra "hundreds of players onscreen" is repeated no less than three times on that page. Can they really blame players for trying to pile up on each other in Cyrodiil?
