Once other players get far ahead many others will be left out quite literally.

    Left out of what?

Certainly, a small core of extremely hardcore players will continue to grind out five or more points a day, and they'll form exclusive groups for Trials, etc. So, everyone else will be left off the top of the leaderboard. But they can still do the content. Assuming ZOS keeps balancing around 'normal' players, and not the top 2%, why would all those normal players be left out? If you can't get in groups with a 500 CP minimum, so what?

It'll be rougher in PvP. But there are already so many gross disparities in Cyrodiil, this is just another raindrop in a thunderstorm.

Left out of content and pvp.

Grouping is generally the same from mmo to mmo. Without a 'lets carry a rookie for this quest' system teams form around safety and speed. Generally min maxers and speed runners to this to extremes but the most open vet will often be hesitant to "carry" a new player.

For a very long time now since the mud days players have complained about how hard it is to fill roles (ie trinity). So developers have made game where either you need no healer and tank or just about any class can fulfill those roles. With that problem mostly solved grouping's main issue is that most new players have a hard time finding groups. As the gap widens there are 3 things that are distinctly likely to happen.

First is that not exactly hardcore but dedicated players will likely create a very basic barrier to entry based around CP. In GW2 I remember when achievement points were added players saying, "Nobody under 5k points" or something along those line. While there will be casual and new player friendly vets many will still worry about wasting time if they bring new players along. As people earn more CP even among players who are not considered hardcore it is likely CP will be the main barrier to entry.

PvP balance (which is generally never truly balanced) will lose the facade of balance and due time mechanics. Generally in PvP despite imbalances there is facade of balance that things aren't so imbalanced that there is an absolute advantage. The problem is CP being full vertical progression has the capability with time to cause an absolute advantage that cna not be overcome easily. The further issue is that the PvP minded player would have to PvE to make up the imbalance. Now this has happened in many titles. The issue is there is sort of a 'due time' approach where the time you'll have to PvE to get the time you need to be competitive will be relatively short compared to the time you'll PvP afterward. In a system that will take years to cap the investment might be to great to bother with PvP at all.

The last is what I worry about most. The, "Why bother?" attitude. New players looking at this system and seeing far behind they are might not even try. While many will enjoy this game for its story line, ambiance, and world we know the vast majority do like to progress and be among not the elite but the other competitive and maxed out players. The problem is looking at the investment and the time required for a normal causal player/new player to simply be competitive might be too much.

Right now as you said the majority are low on CP but after 3 months what will the new norm be. As time passes not only will the bar continually rise but the barriers to entry will just get steeper. The gaps between players who have 20 hours a week and 10 hours a week to play will grow. While both are casual players their CPs will vary drastically.

Let me be blunt with you. Right now this community is full of players who have subscribers view point. The problem comes when you apply this system to a F2P or B2P players view point especially in PvP. Once EXP pots come out or anything like that this game be seen as P2W due to PvP implications alone.

While there are many players with a, "So what?", attitude and many others that say "this will ruin the game". It is all subjective. The truth is tho anybody willing to look at the situation for what it is can guess whats coming. I by no means think this will ruin console or B2P. What I do think is this type of steep system will make the many of the masses (ie casual non subscribing player ie the majority of mmo gamers today) shy away. This type of hardcore time investment in vertical progression (and it is from that perspective) will likely keep many players away from the game. I think among new players there will be those who relish in this system. I just think many more new and casual players will lose too much to it to make it worth while.

Yes yes yes. Couldn't agree more. I've always been eager to log in to this game, but now it's a chore just trying to make things even moderately playable again.

Let me rephrase to appeal to the gaming historian in you. In EQ1, I did not qualify for Fires of Heaven, Afterlife or the other top-end guilds. But I still completed all the endgame content while I subbed.

You're not "left out" of content, when you're one of the 90% of players who won't be at 300 CP's by June. You're just left out of their groups.
