Hahhaaha... man, as frustrating as that may be, I think it's awesome that this kind of penalty exists in ESO. It's good to have some cut throat risk vs. reward elements going on! Don't F*CK with the guards!

There should be an achievement for being accosted while carrying any Legendary stolen item (for now I think that's only Imperial motif) and having the Guard take it by either paying the fine or dying trying to flee. Surely someone here can think of a great name for this achievement, maybe something based on being up by a hundred thousand gold while gambling in Vegas only to lose everything on one bad roll of the dice.

So you stole an Imperial Motif and were not an effective enough thief to escape with your prize?

That is unfortunate for you, but you should have been prepared to deal with the consequences.

For the future, Blessed Thistle + Blue Entoloma + Namira's Rot will give you an Invisibility + Speed potion that will give even the most inept criminal more than adequate opportunity to escape.

Heh, I crafted a few of those for a guildie the other day when we were chatting about the justice system. I haven't made any for myself yet, but I'll definitely be doing it.

I love this thread. It's hilarious to see people's relative maturity levels revealed when there are suddenly consequences. The morality of the basic situation didn't change - this stuff was never "yours". But now there are consequences.

For some, this is a challenge. I was one of those who hit a wrong key after re-doing my skills, attacked the wrong person and so on (details are earlier in this thread) but now I know what the #$@# was happening when suddenly all I could see was sky.

Taloned by the Vulkel Guard Guarde.... worked pretty well.

When I am theefing I usually run shadow cloak, blade cloak with speed bonus, refreshing path/rapid retreat and shuffle. Its my gtfo bar when I get busted works well.

Sorry mate, that's really bad luck to be sure. Gotta sting massively. Was it indoors? So far I've found running away from guards pretty straight forwards outside. Port the first opportunity you get to some random wayshrine, use an entrance outside of the city to get into the hideout, the one in Daggerfall is pretty easy to get to without bumping into guards.

Yep, currently so long as you haven't been hit in the last 5 to 7 seconds roughly, even if you're in combat you can interact/teleport/etc. again at your leisure. It should really be setup to disallow object interactions like that outside of Cyrodiil unless you're out of combat (the reason I say Cyro should be excepted is because, of course, you don't want people to be unable to ever get into a keep for example ).

Only problem with that would be if you got the "permanently in combat" bug.

Been playing since launch and I still haven't found one.

I would have went straight into defcon 5 and made damned sure I got to a refuge w/o even sniffing a guard. Curious why you didn't just port to a way shrine out in the sticks somewhere?

if in the moment you grab smthing guard turn in to you, you will be immediatly catched up

im using addon for safe stealing like only if stealthed and no1 see you, but guards roaming in the castle you know

I think what you are saying is that you grabbed it while a guard was close to you and either saw you steal it or tried to collect a bounty very shortly after you stole it.

I always look first and steal second. You won't get a bounty by simply looking in a container. The bounty and "heat" come once you remove the item. So if you open a container and see something real valuable like a motif or recipe, don't take it right away. Close the container, look around, and wait for an ideal time to take it. The item will still be there when you look again.

Just like a master thief would do. Scout first, then pounce at the right time.

I watched a friend take a "look" at one of the master locked boxes in a bank. Flipped right over to the lockpick screen - she backed out, but still had a 25 g fine for "looking" that close.
