Why no free respeccing?

After such a major change of the game, when people really have no idea what build to do any more, and are all effectively a bit newb again, why no free respecs? Give us a week of free respeccing with an update this major, come on that's just mean.
I love the changes, I hate the fact I can't for the life of me remember my old builds on my 3 vets. And when I can't I can't afford to respec, and am stuck with things I don't know, how or why but are morph I. If it wasn't bad enough I really don't know how anything works atm, I can't change or experiment either. Why is that?
Was expecting a free respec on this complete overhaul of the game, the only thing I was really disappointed about.

WTS a rare racial motif for a price that reflects it's value, you're probably the only one without an obsession for useless cosmetic crap. Who needs style anyway when you already have it?

folklore✭✭I'm pretty sure I received a free respec. It's honestly not that much. You can get the gold for respecs really quickly through thieving and selling old mats that are no longer used. ( provisions. )

✭✭✭✭✭We did not get a free respec folks. We got a reset, where they yanked all our points whether we wanted them to or not. They have stuck us with a brand new game. Now if we had all started with level 1 characters this would make sense. But there is absolutely no way in Hades to know what you should best do with 50 some odd attribute points and 300 or so skill points. Free respecs til March 17th is the LEAST they could do for us.

Agreed. I couldn't get on PTS (because reasons, don't ask), so I'm going in completely blind - as are all the people who just returned to the game, often after months of absence. Since OP talks about affording a respec, I think he/she was in fact talking about getting attribute and skill points back, not a class change. I only logged into my main last night, and I did get back all attribute and skill points. Then by all means take a week to fully respect your characters. I make a point of only doing about 1/2 my points till I have a better sense of what's what.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.***Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis0 -

Takhistis✭✭✭I think OP means free respec at cathedrals. Because after these big changes, I feel like my first build might be crap and having to respec again would be likely as you'll want to change builds a few times to see which new build fits you most.
This doesn't rlly apply to my Lvl 30 character but for some veterans...NA-DC-NB VR1 Ilythrian

I don't disagree with your view of it being a FORCED respec/reset (which ever word you want to use, the're entirely synonymous in this context IMO) but pedantically a 'respec' and a RESET are the same thing except normally you have to pay for both Skill Point refunds AND to un-morph morphs separately, so in effect we got 2 FREE respecs/resets.

When if they let you experiment most of them would of been silenced.

Way to miss the point. Yes, there was a forced reset on first log-in, but many players including those returning after an absence had little idea what was going on, and even those who were aware of the changes but didn't try them out across various builds on the PTS are likely to need some experimenting before getting it "right". A few days grace is all the OP and others are asking for, and it isn't unreasonable. A few days in which to experiment with the massive game-changing skill revamp without bankrupting their characters in the process.1 -

what we can contact customer support and just get a free reset, why wasn't anyone informed? Because that's not true is it, or the GMs would be inundated with free respec requests.

drschplatt✭✭✭✭It would be nice to get cheaper respec. Sorcs were screwed up so badly that one could easily dump 70k gold into trying to make one work. I don't have 70K gold to dump into my sorc. I don't really feel like dumping the 12k it'll cost me to respec once into it so I'm stuck with the skills I picked based on my previous understanding of the game.Foräois - Imperial Sorcerer of Ineptitude.
