1.6 refining resulting in less gold tempers???

I do confirm that you must have three points in extraction skills to get the 5% drop rate of goldens.

Testing with batches of under 1000 give very unreliable results. Even batches of 5000 tend to give results varying between four and six percent. The nature of RNG is daedric.

Either there had always been a chance of getting gold improvers from any lvl material or I'm one of the luckiest sob's in the world...That said... I did not see a "significant increase" to the amount of improvers I got from deconning nor have I noticed a "significant" decrease in receiving gold improvers from my hirelings; a little bit of a drop off from my hirelings, yes... But the writs? absolutely nothing in two weeks; unless you count the one dreugh wax and one tempering alloy from commiting stacks of material to them.... :)

Not at all. I just found a bunch of voidstone for a few gold shy of 600 per stack. I get about 600g per writ. Worst case scenario, I come out at zero. Next time I buy mats, they'll probably be more expensive, but not so much as to make writs completely worthless. If I harvest the mats myself, it's always a profit, but I don't have time to do it.

The only thing that bothers me is that I could be crafting armors for people with those mats. A set item would be worth more. Oh well. I wasn't doing these writs before at all, might as well see the new rates for myself, even if it isn't the most profitable activity.

I don't spend a penny on materials. I do the writs and spend half an hour running round Craglorn picking up the materials for the next day - and getting the surveys if I received any. Just this time is easily enough to provide more than enough for the next writ, so I'm running a surplus.

Though it would be better if writs were more imaginative - extra cash for specific traits or set items, or gear with enchantments.

Maybe different notice boards offering different grades of writ...

And definitely a minimum level of reward that is better than a single trait stone.

I don't have time to gather so much material, just doing writs on several characters eats enough of it and I'd like to actually play too.

Agree with those saying Gold mats are not dropping more then usual!!!! I had about 4000 raw mats and only got about 12 gold mats from all of that. If you are going to nerf Hirelling to the point having them is a waste, please give us another source for gold improvement mats.

I am a newbie here and ever so appreciate so much about this game, but i do wonder if there is a starbucks for heirlings somewhere in game. We send them off for an entire day to focus on retrieving crafting items and, at least so far what im seeing is that they must be spending about 10 mins in the field and the rest of the time...elsewhere; at least they could bring us back a latte if they are fannying about at the bucks ;)

after 1.6 went live, i wasn't having any issues really. there wasnt really an increase for me in legendary drops.

however, after 2.0.2 i've see a MASSIVE decrease in gold drops.

my running total is now around 3300 raw mats and i have 2 rosins and 1 dreugh wax to show for it which came today from 1300 mats or so. prior to today, the 2000 yielded no gold drop.

Am I completely misinformed here? All the large scale tests I saw of yellow drop rates pre-1.6 pointed at around 2.5 to 3% drop rates. Did I mis some others?
At least I'm getting a lot more yellows since 1.6. But random things are random.

Latest refine results from 2.0.3 gives this time 4,9%. There are more results in another thread here. Refining has been constantly at 5%.

@ZOS_GinaBruno any chance you could provide an update on the gold temper drop rates from refining (post 1.6)? Last we heard was March 4th (in this thread) when you said you were investigating the reports.

Since we haven't seen anything in the subsequent patch notes, is the post 1.6 gold temper drop rate from refining working as intended? Or is the drop rate still being investigated? Were any changes implemented as a result of these reports? Is this issue in ZOS's backlog?

The tables posted in this thread and others seem to indicate that there was no change to the gold temper drop rates from refining while comparing versions pre-1.6 through 2.0.3.

Thanks - just hoping to get either an update or a resolution.

I'm more worried by the Kutas than the other gold tempers, honestly.

I haven't got any Kutas from my hirelings, since 1.6 came out. And you can't "refine" anything to get them, the only other option is to farm them (time consuming) or buy them (price is rising.)

As for the the gold tempers, I get maybe one or two per week from my hirelings, and maybe one or two more from refining raw stuff... so they're at least trickling in slowly. Kutas, on the other hand: no signs of life on that end :(

High level enchanting writs are the best source of Kutas currently. I've had a number of them come directly as rewards for writs, and in my experience (too small a sample size to draw definite conclusions from, granted) it seems that the surveys in Craglorn have a pretty high chance of producing Kutas compared to regular nodes. A couple of days ago I went to collect surveys (I had 3 saved up), and got 4 Kutas.

    Nice to know @UrQuan

Yeah, I considered that could be part of the problem... My main enchanter is my L41 char (Ench at L50 with maxed skill points spent on that) so he cannot do the high level writs yet, sadly.

My VR14 has enchanting at 34 now, and it's slowly getting up... but it'll take some time to get to the point I can do the high level writs with her (or I could level up my L41 to VR1 too... problem is, I hate DKs )

Anyway, thanks for the tip! And sorry for the tangent... as enchanting is kind of off topic in this thread, now I realize.

I suggest you save your raw mats for now. People post about this multiple times a day. Luckily for me I only refined over 10000 raw jute with a auto clicker program the day I came back when tam unlimited was released only to discover it was heavily nerfed at some point. *Casts crystal frag at temple*

More worryingly, how do we get kuta? can you get them from refiningh white dropped monumental glyphs from mobs? I have never gotten one like that tho, I only got my kuta through my hirelings, and since 1.6 I havent gotten a single one. Extremely rare I got from harvesting a node.

Weird, I've got 8 characters doing Enchanting writs (I don't bother every day on all of them) at various character levels and enchanting levels, and the only one I've ever received any Kuta on as a writ reward (or in a node from an Enchanting survey) is the one who's got Enchanting maxed out and is turning in writs in Craglorn. I guess it's RNG at work.

Here is what I am getting with my V14 Crafter with Maxed out Crafting stats on all of them.

    Woodworking:
    Rough Wood: 1000 Nightwood
    Refined: 861
    Green: 9
    Blue: 11
    Purple: 4
    Gold: 7

    Clothing Weeds:
    Raw Plant: 1200 Silverweed
    Refined:
    Green: 9
    Blue: 18
    Purple: 7
    Gold: 9

Clothing Hides: Haven't been able to get 1000 hides to test this one yet.. will fill in when I do.. it will take a while.
    Hide Scraps:
    Refined:
    Green:
    Blue:
    Purple:
    Gold:

    Blacksmithing:
    Ore: 1000 Voidstone
    Refined: 866
    Green: 10
    Blue: 10
    Purple: 11
    Gold: 2

    Blacksmithing:
    Ore: 1000 Quicksilver
    Refined: 850
    Green: 16
    Blue: 12
    Purple: 6
    Gold: 1

I don't know about you guys, but if we are suppose to be getting around 4.9% drop rate of gold from refining, something is seriously wrong with Blacksmithing. This is what I get constantly. If I am lucky, I will get 3 gold drops from refining 1000+ ores. This isn't right. It is WORSE than it was prior to 1.6.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Could you please pass this along and have it looked into.. I am seriously being robbed of mats here.

I have received at least one Kuta from a character with L2 Enchanting. I have NEVER received a Kuta pre/post 1.6 from ANY of my Enchanting Surveys, even the Craglorn ones.

As for refining raw materials, I've averaged more gold tempers since 1.6 than before, even from iron ingots. Usually, I get at least one gold temper after refining 200 raw materials. I haven't tested it as thoroughly as others, though.

I've been doing writs daily since they started - all Craglorn surveys.

Just got my first double Kuta yesterday!

And the day before I got two nirncrux, from woodworking and blacksmithing surveys.

It's all a matter of perception and RNG, but even though I suspect that it's just RNG I do have a nagging feeling that writs were stealth nerfed in 2.0.3 and buffed again in 2.0.4 :)

Wrist rewards are the only places gold mats come from now as far as I'm concerned. You guys with 1000+ mats to refine...that's hours of farming I refuse to do.

Or letting the mats brought in by hirelings on all characters build up for a while... I never do farming (although I do grab most nodes I happen to pass by while I'm playing), but I've got 5 hirelings on each of the characters on my main account, and after a while those mats build up.

That's just it.. it can take a few hours of farming to get a couple hundred mats. Usually takes me three days to get 1000 mats and only if I farm an area where it is easy to run a huge circle and the spawn rate is quick. It is easier to farm raw plants than it is ores or hides.

This dismal gold drops I am getting from refining blacksmithing though is concerning since it is worse than it was before 1.6's release for me. At least pre-release I would have received around 5 Gold tempers from 1000 Ores refined, but now I am only getting 1-2... I am feeling seriously Gypped. I can only figure that there may have been a stealth nerf to it to make it harder for people to get yellow mats for that skill line since the armor rating is so high as it is for heavy armor.
