How much armor to reach 50% mitigation cap?

So the only stat caps in the game now are impenetrable, which caps at 100% crit bonus damage mitigation, and armor, which caps at 50% damage mitigation, as per the patch notes. The notes give the formula for figuring out how much impenetrable is needed to reach the cap, but not armor. Did anyone figure this out on the PTS?

If I recall correctly, people were citing ~32,500 armor and spell resist as being the effective hard cap in some of the PTS threads. That is, you can have more, but there is no difference in mitigation beyond that point.

IIRC its 32500 armor for 50% mitigation (or close to it)

That was quick. So does going over the cap help against penetration still then? As in, does penetration effectively apply to a percentage of the raw number or apply to the mitigation? The former seems like it would make it still worthwhile to go beyond the armor cap.
