Watch ESO Live from 21st January. Basically they wanted to reward people for their continued subscription that way: Get them some small gifts. But at some point they realized that such a strategy doesn't really fit the whole "do whatever you want" concept of Elder Scrolls, so they changed their strategy to the free crowns for the crown store, which allows everyone to pick their own rewards although they're no longer exclusive.

Yes Crowns are your new Loyalty Reward . Now You can pick your own rewards .

Except that, for the most part, you won't be able to. Because that's how "crowns" work.... they give you just enough to entice you to buy more.

1500 crowns is enough for a mount or multiple other selections.

    Wait and see.

Why wait? Jump on PTS and find out for yourself.

Store prices are object to change. Crown cost is object to change. Monthly crown allottment is object to change.

If 1$ equals 100 crowns, the current monthly reward for subscribing is rather high and prices in the store rather low. While that is unusually fair for a cash shop and sub system, it also almost seems too good to be true... So I have my doubts it'll stay that way.

It depends on what the crown store is really there to do. If it's a sign that, "no, really subscriber numbers are slipping," then the store does look way too generous.

If it's about corporate saying you can't get people to pay 20 bucks a month for two subscriptions to play your game on the XBone, especially when Microsoft is also going to be eating your lunch... then, the idea of pushing $15 worth of crown currency isn't actually that insane. Because it's about luring you into paying a subscription fee rather than gating the game with one. And, what better way to do that then saying, "yeah, we'll give you more than your money's worth if you subscribe."

But, yeah, I'm in agreement with Morna, "wait and see." Also, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little apprehensive. Cryptic and Funcom have mutilated a few too many games I loved in F2P/B2P transitions for me to be comfortable with the situation.

I, too, have been "Funconned" before. Broke my freakin' heart what they did to Age of Conan and was why I refused to even try The Secret World even though I was drawn to the concept. Here with ESO I have dared to love again (LOL) but fear ZOS is as faithless a lover...indeed it feels like an abusive relationship much of the time already! :(

Secret World was really vicious. They went to a grind endlessly for garbage, on the dim hope you'd get what you actually needed to advance. And then piled a grab bag system on over that, which would let you bypass the whole thing if you wanted to cough up real cash.

It isn't just an opinion piece. It was also a question. One that has not yet been answered. As such I have removed "Opinion" and added that there is a question there. So now instead of reading [Opinion]Loyalty Reward Program the title reads Loyalty Reward Program & Question which more properly reflects the actual original post. One hopes that this less "inflammatory" title will be acceptable. Though frankly I am still a little confused as to what could possibly have been objectionable about the original title which was "Why did you kill the loyalty reward program?" if memory serves. I know that, at least, was close.
