Yes, that was sarcasm in case you were wondering.
In the older days, going to craglorn straight from v1 and then grinding all the way to v12/v14 while never repairing fully broken armor was surely more fun then having to grind quests.

You can still do the same right now, just that it's more difficult, since you don't have 12-man grinding groups anymore.

Doing the main quest is not required to get into craglorn, and is not required to get into any of the vet dungeons or trials. You can go directly to craglorn at v1, regardless of whether you did the main quest or not.

So you can skip it if you want.

Yeah, I know. Which is why it was self-imposed. I wanted her to go to Silver (and eventually Gold), so I used Craglorn as the motivation to finish the main story, even though she could have gone straight there.

LOL! My alt is V4 now, but we have a group of V2-V5 guildies that's working through the Craglorn questline. Some parts are a bit hard (we can't kill some of the dungeon bosses), but the challenge is actually quite fun.

I dont agree with being able to skip the Main Story quests altogether. That kind of defeats the point in playing the game and would obviously have serious impact on how alts progress.

I do, however, agree that some of the more long-winded, repetitive, nonsensical, virtual cinematics could be skipped by veteran players.

The first Harborage quest is a prime example:
You find the Harborage, you meet the prophet, you "go into his mind" to a sliver of coldharbor..... Now he shambles along as slow as humanly possible muttering to himself while you wait at the next arrow point for him to catch up. You are forced to re-meet all the companions, re-watch their individual intros, re-visit the doomed ritual, and then once again wait on the limping prophet to mumble about dark anchors until he lets you get on with your life.

All in all its a good 30 minutes of content that is fine for new players - and was actually enjoyable the first time - but becomes a tedious bore fest after youve leveled several alts. It wouldnt hurt the game at all to allow vet players who have gone through the content to speed up or jump past certain explanations. A simple addition to the npc dialogue - that only shows for players who have completed the main quest on another character - would be nice. Give an option like "I know this tale" to hurry the prophet along.

I've never thought it was a good idea to have forced solo content required for progression (and it is required for progression if you want to get to Coldharbour or your Silver and Gold zones) in an MMO. Having a way to skip it if you choose after you've completed it once would be a good thing (of course, if you skip it you would forfeit the skill points associated with it).

Having said that, I sure wouldn't skip it on any of my many alts... I mean, look at all the skill points the main quest gives you!

Best idea I've seen so far in this thread. We really could use the "I know this tale" option. Most of us DO want the skill points from these quests, and some of us are even interested in comparing and contrasting how our alts perform in the various main quest combat situations.

I would be very happy if we could get an "I know this tale" option and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this way.

Ah, so what you really want is to just be handed a bunch of skill points without having to do anything.

Hey, why don't we make it that once you reach any level on one character you get a button to make other characters that level too .. because, you know, it's so tedious getting to VR14.

For this you get a virtual sweetroll
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I don't want it. I said I'm not going to ask for it, I'm not keen on skipping questlines on a whim - it's basically the same thing as paying for a level 50 character, just on smaller scale. But I really wish I could skip all the exposition. I already don't do anything when the Prophet retells his memories, I run ahead and go make tea while he catches up...

They do this in Coldharbor with the Groundskeeper who tells you about the history of the town. I think there is one part of the MQ where you can tell the "Prophet" that you are familiar with the story so he skips it. But you can't get past those cut scenes.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Skipping cutscenes? Now that idea has some merit... and yeah, exactly like the groundskeeper.

Though I really liked how the "prophet" gave his identity away to me the very first time I played through that mentioned first harborage quest... I was kinda pleased at myself for going "Hey, if this story is in your mind, meaning you yourself witnessed it for me to see now, and all the others are mentioned being here and there, that must mean you are... a-ha!" ;)

Right, so we need the ability to hit escape or something to get past these cut scenes. I find that walk with the Groundskeeper to be very tedious at this point.

I would resent the Main Story quests less if I actually liked any of the Five Companions. They couldn't possibly be more predictable or stale. Stereotypical tropes, every one of them. Even Abner, who is the only one I kind of like. And for a game that's groundbreaking in its casual treatment of same sex relationships I found it kind of appalling that the token female of the Five Companions is A) indeed a token female, I mean, really, they couldn't have possibly made even ONE more of the Companions female? and B ) A blonde with big boobs. Seriously ZOS? This is where you decide it's okay to be sexist? So to be forced to endure all their inane banter over and over again grates on my nerves tremendously. Originally my plan was to just skip them up til I hit Vet and then just roll through them while being over leveled so I could get through them as quickly as possible. But, oh no, ZOS in its infinite wisdom had to go and make then scale because Divines forbid I should get to be spared even one excruciating minute with this pack of annoying stereotypical cardboard cutouts. And all while being "THE ONE" over and over again. Really, WHEN will MMOs realize that this is a TERRIBLE trope for a multiplayer game????

The ONLY "good" thing about this nonsense is that at least the rewards also scale to level so all mine will be Vet level goodies. But I'd GLADLY give them all back just to be able to escape from the hell of enduring their company AGAIN.

I thought Lyris was kind of supposed to be a huge warrior, like Brienne in GOT. But then they gave her long hair and made her too pretty and some weird relationship with Sai.
If they were cool, they would have made the female character be the one who is tortured for years and doesn't give up the info.

Yeah I had an alt choose not to join them. I don't remember what the consequence was for making this choice. It felt like they said something like "Oh, OK".

I couldn't remember anything different other than some different dialogue. They didn't remove my earned skill points or anything like that and that character's name probably didn't show up in the companion books that sit in Harborage.
