Skipping Main Story.

Hi there,

I hate the fact that I have to do the main story on each character even though I did it through on the first character I made.

I enjoyed it the first time around - now I'm on the third time around and it is DULL. Really, really, really dull. Boring, annoying, time consuming and unnecessary!

You let me skip the tutorial on subsequent toons, please allow me to skip the main story in the same manner each time I get called to Harbourage, you can keep the skill point, you can keep the gold reward, and you can keep the ring!

What about mage and fighters guild quests? Want to skip them too?

They have to leave them in really as otherwise you'll never end up fighting Molag Bal and thus not moving onto the other zones i guess.

Totally agree with you. Players have the option of skipping the soul shriven area at the beginning & heading straight for the starter zones. Why not have the option to skip Mannimarco & Molag Bal?
surely it would not be too difficult to implement in. Complete the quests once, be given the opportunity to skip it for any alts.

Hey, why don't we make it that once you reach any level on one character you get a button to make other characters that level too .. because, you know, it's so tedious getting to VR14.

You do realize that a bunch of skill points come from those quests right?

Skip it all you want. Do all the side quests til you get to 50 then go back and use the scaled versions to give you a boost into the Vet areas.

Because that would be ridiculous, whereas asking to have the ability to skip through a rather tedious bunch of averagely acted single player nonsense would be reasonable in an MMO :)

Not bothered about these ones as they are sort of optional, but without completing main story we can't access the next content I believe?

I'm not going to ask them for the ability to skip quests and get free skillpoints - but I really wish I could. The main quest is just so much talking. I can skip most other quests by clicking through dialogues and killing stuff quickly. I can sit through Mages Guild because Sheogorath never gets old (for me. I know others would like to skip that too). But the main quest? Their sob stories make me wish I could sacrifice all three at the end, not just Varen, as I usually do (three because I actually like Abnur).

I enjoyed doing the main quests again on my alts. In an "can this sorceror do better against mannimarco then my nightblade? How about my templar?" way... (answer - yes, much better).

Point is, almost -every- MMO requires you to play through most of the content again if you make an alt. The -only- thing they sometimes let you skip is the tutorial, since it is assumed you already learned how to play the game when you did it the first time. That's the only reason you get to skip that. Because you already learned.

But all the questing, levelling, exploring, etc., you will have to do again on any alt you make. This is as it should be.

Ah yes but a lot of them allow you to skip through acted scenes. Which are a serious drag after a few times though.

There should at least be the option to skip the Lvl 5 quest "The Harborage" and the Lvl 45 quest "Council of the Five" since they have no combat in them.

If it was possible to skip the others, then you should have to forfeit the XP and Skill Points they give always and forever, and should have the Soul Magic skill line frozen at whatever rank it's reached when you first skip something.

The "questing grind" has been a long time complaint about this game. The problem is that once you step outside of "the questing grind" there isn't much else to do. Cyrodiil is still too buggy, DSA \ Trials \ Undaunted Dungeons require grouping that can take all your playtime to find people if you only play an hour or so a night (you can usually find a dungeon PUG pretty quickly though). There's the whole game. Take the questing out of it and there is quite literally very little else to do.

I don't know...doing the story on each character is meaningful and the diff character styles warrant a different experience for the same quests.

But that's like asking not to have to do other quests as well from another person who may want to redo the main quests and not do the others on a new character.

I skip them all (main, fighters, mages) on my alts right now. I'll do them after I hit vet 1, after 1.6, so i get CP for them b/c at least some of them scale to your level.

With my main alt, I kind of forgot about them till I was half-way through the Rift, realized I still needed to do them and finished Fighters/mages and most of the main quest ( except Molar Bal) in one shot.

It was quite fun that way.

Lol I never do the main story...there are usually more than one ways to get into a place right? like through the mages guild etc....

You see another MMO had it so that whatever class or race you were, there was differences in the story to make it a bit undull. Although the out comes are the same. There was special dialogue to fit the race/class.

I have a crazy/stupid idea. What if they stopped scaling the Main quests at some level, like 30 or something. Then if it was your 4th or 5th time through, you could wait until you were well over-leveled and run through them in an evening.
Except the last quest/battle. That is somewhat a rite of passage.

Chuckle, this is what I was planning to do, before they hit us with the dmned scaling.

Nah. The scaling is no problem if you know the fights already, you will run through anyhow. Most of it. And the tougher fights, those are even fun with a new character, see how well they do compared to what you remember of the others...

I for one would have liked some differences in conversations depending on race/class/gender... but then, I always like these things, main story or sidequest.
Right now the only differences are choosing either Lyris or Tharn to rescue Sai for some dialoge, and the final choice at the end which determines your keepsake reward...

I have just gone through the MQ for the 4th time over the past two weeks as I was leveling my new Templar. I enjoyed doing it again with a different class and am chomping at the bit to get to Molag Bal, but I have to do Coldharbor again.

That is the part I wish we could skip, Coldharbor along the way to the final battle, if it's been done before. I know we don't have to clear the map, but it is an involved series of quests that I would rather do later. Although the pesky lore tells me I need to destroy the Plane Meld first before I go play with Molag.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

If you only wish to go to Craglorn and Cyrodiil, skip away.

You are not obligated to do the main quest.

So far, I've completed the main story 4 times and I'm working on my 5th. I'm trying to see which class can get through Molag Bal the easiest, I'm saying Nightblade so far but haven't done it yet with my Templar.

Ha! I will eventually do this too, since I'm leveling a Templar and a DK. Since the NB is my main, she was the first to face Molag Bal, so in a sense it was the hardest. My sorc had to keep on her toes but it wasn't too hard otherwise.

I hear you! I put a self-imposed barrier on taking my sorc to Craglorn once she hit V1. She couldn't go (other than do writs) until she beat Molag Bal. That helped.

Doing the main quest is not required to get into craglorn, and is not required to get into any of the vet dungeons or trials. You can go directly to craglorn at v1, regardless of whether you did the main quest or not.

So you can skip it if you want.

I think seeing how different builds do against the big tough fights in the main quest (mannimarco in sancre tor, and molag bal) is half the fun in levelling them into veteran ranks anyhow.

Of course, I kinda stopped all further progress on my alting for now anyhow, since I just couldn't bear to earn V ranks yet no C-points... but just wait until the champion system goes live, then I'll have to quest a lot! ;)

Yes, going to a VR11 to VR13 Group Content zone at VR1 is so much fun, and so successful too. I see people stepping all over each other when I do a zone request LFG VR1 needs group. It's like a mob scene in front of me with all the chat bubbles saying "Group with me, I will carry you"

Yes, that was sarcasm in case you were wondering.

The thing is that there are no tough fights, no challenge. It's fluff, meaningless content the second time around, no surprise, nothing but a boring rerun that you're forced into doing to access appropriate level zones. This is supposed to be an MMO so being forced through hours of solo drivel is horrible.
