The LOL button.

I believe there used to be a disagree button at one time, but they removed it. Basically, the LOL button is there because this forum consists of players who can't stand the thought of someone disagreeing with them and would continue to argue their point until they are blue in the face, and trolls who would click the disagree button on every post just because.

Actually, I believe that the "argue untill they are blue in the face" part happens anyway, hehe. But you are very correct. The disagree used to be here back in beta and it got removed. Since then, seems people just shifted over to use the LOL in virtually the same way. Not much you can do about it. Not really a big deal either if you ask me. I personally tend to use the awesome button when I find something funny, since I really love things that make me laugh

I use it only for "heh that's funny", never for "I disagree and you're an idiot".

If anyone gets a LOL from me it's because I appreciate your humor not because I don't like what you said.

People use it to express humor, but most of the time it's meant as an insult or an expression of disagreement. It's abused and misused. It serves no purpose other than a way to flame people. And if you make any kind of comment about it, you will get a bunch of lol's from people that do it for no other reason that to mock your comment. Just like this very post from me will get, and the absurd amount of lol's your genuine OP is getting.

Agreed. It's the unofficial disagreement/insult button. Do my best only to use lol when I find things amusing (not always successful).

Nit being of the Twitter generation I use LOL for what it stands for, something amusing, I realise the Twitter generation end pretty much everything they post with 'lol' so it's kind of meaningless these days .. and some think saying LOL is a kewl way to sneer at someone.

My LOL count is currently 289 and I take that as a sign I regularly post things that make people laugh .. in the end it doesn't matter, it all adds to the overall Points total.

Wow I went to sleep and woke up and so many more funny posts (especially the ones with pictures). Reading the various responses I have come to the conclusion that no one really knows what the lol button is supposed to indicate.

It's used when a post is laughable, or if it makes you laugh. As long as laughing is involved, the LOL button is there for you.

Do people think my posts are that bad? There are no disapprove buttons maybe that's what this button is supposed to indicate....Then again maybe it's because the post is funny and it says that I'm a funny guy and generally likable. You do gain forum points as you accumulate them but maybe the award isn't because you post funny stuff...maybe it's compensaton for all the troll hate you put up with to acquire said lols...or maybe it's a thank you from Zos for posting stuff that was so bad they lol you which invariably keeps the forums more lively...it is hard work to be hated....

Honestly I don't think I've ever used the lol button because I don't know when to use the button....but lots of people use it on me so apparently I'm having a blond moment and missing the obvious....

I use to use the dislike button just like you, then it took an arrow in the knee and the lol button appeared

But yeah it seems to be mainly used for trolling now a-days
