How to steal everything in update 1.6 and never get caught.

Just to shed some light on this topic. I don't think ZoS will Nerf it because I have been stealing for a couple of days now and I never get caught. I only get caught when I murder someone. I'm not a nightblade, I'm a Templar. Sure, you have to be more "stealth minded" but eventually all NPCs move unless they are essential. I've found the essential NPCs to not move most of the time. Remember they changed the NPC code to be walking, breathing ai. They don't all do the same thing all the time. So no, this isn't an exploit. I do however, feel like they might lower the sell values on green, blue, and purple quality vendor items. Also, you can only loot 50 a day, or 100 if you launder. That gets increased as you go about stealing and such if you put the skill points in. I made about 5000 gold from one days worth of stealing. It would take you about 200 or so days to get a million gold at that rate.

what about invisibility potions? would they do the trick as well ??
if I remember correctly you can make vr5 invis pots that last 4 seconds.

if invisibility pots work as well, then this trick can work for all classes. though have a longer cooldown ( 30sec, unless jewelry enchant) and ofc has a cost of gold or flowers.

First time making a video, so my apologies if it doesn't work at first. I may have to figure some more things out. In any case you can see in this video that Shadow Cloak makes you completely invisible for 2.5 seconds and during that time you can loot (w/o auto loot) the entire contents of a container right in front of the guards.

You will also see that I attempted to use some V1 invisibility potions that grant over 11 seconds of invisibility. Either these potions are bugged and not working at all (which seems to be the case and is a different issue), or they do not grant the same kind of invisibility that Shadow Cloak does because I got caught when I tried to use the potions.

This video is in no way supporting exploits, but my intent is for it to be used as a tool to report the issue. If this violates any rules, please inform me and I will remove it.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgSqirdy8eI&feature=youtu.be

So perhaps the best way to address this would be a program change so that you can only steal using normal Stealth (hidden) or while exposed.

I see where this is going. ZOS will either nerf racial skills or shadow cloak. Heavens forbid playing a NB as a thief/assassin archtype character is against their "class balance rules."

Someone else in this post made a good point. If they tweak or nerf shadow to the guards, how will we use it as effectively in combat or a getaway tool compared to the other equivelant class skills?

I don't think they will have to nerf Shadow Cloak at all. They would just have to change the coding so that you can't steal while being fully invisible.

Again, don't get me wrong, I love the justice system and DO NOT want to see any nerf to NB class skills. I just think that 100% immunity from detection by any naked level 10 character spamming a lowbie class skill kinda defeats the purpose and takes the fun out of it.

Wow this really is crazy. I just spent 5 minutes on a NB and looted maybe 20 items. Of those 20, ~5 were worth ~250g when sold. It is very conceivable that within an hour or less u could loot 50 +250g items and then sell them. That is over 12,000g for less than an hour of work. If you do that on 3 chars then u are looking at an easy 30-40k+ gold a day without much work at all. That would be over a million gold in a month with zero risk or investment...looks like we found the hireling replacements.

The real kicker here is that you dont have to level the NB up to get to this pt...they can be brand new L3 characters rocking the Shadow Cloak. Meaning people can/will exploit this starting on day one....no way is this going on Live.

Blue stolen items sell for 600g. 50 x 600 = 30k. So in theory, you could just delete any stolen goods that are under blue quality, save up on blues, and cash in. 30k per day per charcter. This would take a lot more time, but you can rifle through a ton of containers when you have zero chance of getting busted.

Plus the "trafficker" skill in the Legerdemain skill line increases the amount of items you can fence per day. Just 1/4 pts increases it by 120%. So you can imagine what kind of figures we are talking about here.

Like I said. I love the system. I love the Risk/vs reward. But when there is zero risk, it just becomes a straight up farming exploit.

I just don't want to see Shadow Cloak get nerfed. Hopefully they will be smart enough to find a different way to address this w/o changing class skills or what otherwise is a really great and fun Justice system.

Blue stolen items sell for 600g.

Haha yeah exactly! The numbers I'm quoting are like base case scenario -- the actual amount you get can be so much higher than that. If you were willing to put the time in and wait until you loot 50 blues then that's 30k per character. Use 4 chars and your looking at 120,000g a day....that is a million gold in under 9 days of work.

Why didn't you report this to ZO instead of pretending it's a good gameplay mechanic?

Honestly, people whine that there's not enough challenge in the game, and they whine when ZO "nerfs" an exploit. What do you want?

Well I think kudos should be given to the OP for bringing the issue to light. The fact that he created a thread about this for ZoS to see should be applauded...he very easily could have kept silent on the exploit. The messenger shouldn't be vilified...so props to the OP in my book.

Also, I dont have enough experience with the justice system, but is there a gold cap along with the item sale cap? That would solve the issue right there. Correct me if im wrong, but that's what Skyrim did--each merchant only had like 5k gold or something like that. You could invest in the merchant to increase his gold amount, but either way the gold cap was intended to prevent exploits just like this. 5k max per character would seem like a reasonable cap -- enough reward for people doing a ton of stealing, but no so much as to disrupt the in game economy. Then you could invest in skill pts or whatever to increase that cap to 10k.

Point being the item sale cap is dumb...it should be replaced with a gold sale cap.

Also, how does laundering fit into this? Is there a profit in laundering a bunch of items and then reselling them? Is there a limit to that? Anyone know? I have only spent like 5 minutes with this system so really dont know.

Final note -- we should all be able to choose the Guard Class because their Invincibility Ultimate is way overpowered. :)

I'm not pretending that its a good or fair game mechanic; don't know where you got that idea from. I'm just sharing information with the players so everyone can have the same advantage if this exploit isn't addressed.

Another player told me he already sent a bug report on this, so I didn't need to.

BTW, the easiest fix would be not allow you to loot items while invisible as was previously mentioned, or you immediately get caught just as if your weren't using shadow cloak. The logic is simple:

Your a NPC facing a crate next to you, and all of a sudden, you see the lid move, and contents stolen, then a man appears out of thin air. It doesn't take much brains to figure out that this man was the one stealing from the container.

At least that's my logic, but as I pointed out previously, 90% of the items around NPCs can be easily loot without using shadow cloak; even with the stealth meter half open.

Also you can do this both with Shadowy Disguise and manually, just have to time it a bit more carefully. :)

If your character is a Nightblade then you can steal with a 100% success rate by turning on auto loot stolen items. The next step is simple, just crouch next to the item you want to steal and then go invisible with Shadow Cloak and auto loot the item.

So far I haven't been caught. So it looks like the NightBlades will be the masters of stealing.
My main is a NB and I've been on PTS testing the Legerdemain skill line every day since 1.6 hit. I can tell you there is literally no need to use Cloak to steal. I've never once been caught stealing items and I don't use Cloak at all. I wear 7/7 Medium including 3pc Nightshade and 5pc Night Mother's Embrace with the Wood Elf Racial passive and I can steal the Safebox in the Shornhelm Bank while the Guard is standing 4 feet from it even when it's a Master pick and not be caught.

The only time I do get caught is Pickpocketing, which is fine as my chance isn't 100% yet (it will be on some, will never be on others) Right now at Legerdemain level 9 my Pickpocket chance goes as high as 95% on the easy ones (Beggars, Homeless, etc) and as high as 65% on the hard ones (Rich citizens, Guards, etc). It's a nice catch and I'm sure NB's across Tamriel thank you for the incoming nerf that removes Cloak from the game entirely ;)

Note that there is a daily transaction limit with Fences, as they don’t want to generate too much unwanted attention from the authorities.

I very much doubt they're going to let characters rake in 30k gold per day, and whatever tiny amount it turns out to be (wouldn't be surprised if it was less than 1k gold or limited to 3 items), are you really bothered that one class can make it a few minutes quicker than the others? Lets please call off the NB witch hunt, we don't need cloak getting 'looked at' over something so trivial, it has much more important uses elsewhere.

Like others have said, looting containers is super easy. You will never get caught anyway.

If it worked with pickpocketing then I could see it being an issue. As it stands, who cares?

They would probably nerf the price of stolen items if it proves too lucrative, but it won't be because NB's can loot stuff a bit faster than others.

You can only launder/fence certain limit of items per day. I hit that pretty fast even with some points into expanding how much I can sell etc.

It gets pretty high im lvl 2 fence and i can sell120 items. However its the bounty that gets you. I got 62k bounty and its taking a while to go away, which makes it hard to do quest and impossible to look in my bank. I usually make a little less back from the fence than what my bounty is so if the guard kills me I end up in the negative. Steal what you want if you can keep it, the guards are no joke.

It's not the same thing. You aren't comparing apples to oranges. I seldom get caught while legitimately stealing either, but it takes time. You still have to wait for guards and NPCs to patrol away. You still have to be smart about it and be aware of your environment. You mentioned yourself that you are using armor set bonus's as well as racial bonus's. That's fine. That's what those bonus's are for, and they require time and effort to develop.

This exploit completely ignores all of that. It makes your racial skills irrelevant. It makes your 7/7 medium armor bonus completely irrelevant. It makes the guards and NPCs completely irrelevant. It makes a mockery of the entire system and takes the fun out of it.

Taking a naked level 5 NB and spamming shadow cloak in order to steal every item in every room as fast as you possibly can without any care in the world for who is around you or where you are is just ridiculous and completely bypasses the entire Justice System and makes it a free for all loot fest.

As I have mentioned before, they won't have to nerf Cloaking Shadow. They will just have to change the programming so you can't steal while invisible.

The patch notes state that non white item values are higher than they will be on live version, so the amount of money to be gained will definitely be lower. Just remains to be seen how much lower.

Also, stealing has much more to do with timing NPC/guards than any armor or class skills. I have no problem stealing with my Sorc if I am patient.

    Hopefully not in PvP.
Cloak is already bugged even and again on this PTS, being able to use cloak while in stealth in PvP, when it works, it's the only chance that helps you to escape if not a vampire.
Maybe you can't steal while invisible, but just it.
Consider also that Sorc has the best escape from guards, do u want also that changed?

Surely some things can be tweaked and can be more balanced but, being NB the stealthy class, it's quite obvious there are some advantages in activities related to stealth.
