[Solved]Regular crashes + Pink Textures

daeshanifyb16_ESO
Hi! Recently I've been experiencing several crashes (both in-game and while attempting to load to character select). Once I get into the game itself, I'm met with pink/black textures on some objects and people, NPCs and players alike. I've included a screenshot of what it looks like here:
<img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5020507/uploads/FileUpload/86/c55f175406ee52c0b38a0b9736ddfd.jpg" />

I don't know exactly when this started or why, but I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. I've tried to lower my graphic settings, disabling my addons, repairing the game, running it as administrator, updating/reinstalling my drivers and reinstalling the game without anything so far working.

Does anyone else have this issue? Or does anyone at least know how to fix it?

    Hey there @daeshanifyb16_ESO,

Pink textures generally indicate that a texture is either missing or corrupted. Repairing the client usually solves this particular issue. We see you've mentioned trying a repair once, but please give it another shot and let us know if it helps.

If that doesn't help, please give a try to making some edits to your visual settings, particularly the shadows. Let us know if setting the graphics to Medium or Low assist with making the models a bit more clear!

Hi! I've tried repairing the client again as well as changing my settings (I tried them on all available settings) and it didn't fix the issue sadly. The game still crashes a lot (especially when I first try to launch it) and the pink textures still appear a minute or two after logging in.

After a few minutes of running around, the screen freezes (but I can still tab out and hear my character moving/attacking) or the game simply crashes.

Thanks for letting us know @daeshanifyb16_ESO, sorry that didn't help!

The issue may be something hardware/driver specific, so in this case our best suggestion is to submit a game consultant file to customer support. They'll be able to take a look at the information in this document and see why you're getting those weird texture issues. Once you submit your ticket, please feel free to provide your ticket number here and we'll be happy to take a look as well!

Thank you for the answer! I've gone ahead and sent a game consultant file to the customer support. The reference code is: 150130-000598. Hopefully this can help a bit!

    Thank ya @daeshanifyb16_ESO,

We had someone send it our way and we're having a look now. Though our support team will be able to take a more in-depth look, a cursory glance shows that you're running on Beta drivers from the Nvidia site. We generally recommend running on WHQL signed drivers just in case there are issues with a Beta release.

This link should be the most up to date WHQL drivers for your card:

    http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/81390/en-us

Give those a shot and let us know if they help. When you're installing these drivers, please be sure to use the Advanced settings in the installation menu as opposed to Express, and choose to do a clean installation of the drivers.

This is going to give you a super scary moment where your monitor downscales to something like 800x600 and looks terrible. This is by design as the old drivers are deleted, so let the process run and everything will come back again either naturally or after a restart.

Quick update: I downloaded the drivers from the link you provided and selected the clean installation from the Advanced Settings and I also restarted my computer just to be sure. Unfortunately the game still crashed the first time I tried to start it (with the new driver) and the second time I managed to launch it, but the pink textures still began appearing after about 60 seconds of being logged in.

    Hey there @daeshanifyb16_ESO,

Let's give this a shot then. Head to Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\Live and grab the Usersettings.txt file. Place it on your desktop, or somewhere you'll be able to find it again. Once its gone, try loading up the game and let us know if the same thing happens.

Hi! I tried removing the usersettings.txt file but the issue still remains after that. I also downloaded the PTS client to find out if I had the same problem on there, which seems to be the case (It crashes before I can make a character, so I can't confirm pink textures).

    Hey there @daeshanifyb16_ESO,

Are you running into similar issues with any other titles by chance?

I've tried a few other titles (World of Warcraft, SWTOR) but haven't experienced anything unusual with them. I tried launching some graphic-heavy singleplayer games as well without any similar problems

Gotcha, just trying to rule out the possibility of overheating.

If you wouldn't mind, could you please post your Usersettings.txt file? There is one bit of personal info that you're welcome to remove. If you navigate to the bottom and go ~15 lines up, there's "Set AccountName", which is just your userID if you have it saved. Feel free to remove that and post the rest, either in a document or a post :).

    Howdy!

Found an issue! Let's hope it's THE issue :D. Your DXDiag reports that your monitor is set to 1920x1080, but we're seeing a different resolution appearing in the Usersettings.txt right here:

    SET FullscreenHeight "1527"
    SET FullscreenWidth "2715"
    SET WindowedHeight "1527"
    SET WindowedWidth "2715"

If you change the Height sections to 1080 and the Width sections to 1920, it'll probably stop doing all of the crazy pink stuff! For your copy-pasta convenience:

    SET FullscreenHeight "1080"
    SET FullscreenWidth "1920"
    SET WindowedHeight "1080"
    SET WindowedWidth "1920"

You may also change this setting in the game through the visual settings from the login screen. Once it's set correctly, log in and let us know if there's any success!

I'm not sure what's up with that. When I launched the game to change the settings it showed up as "1920x1080" as always (It crashed as usual when I tried to change settings in-game) so I decided to change the settings manually in the usersettings file. Sadly it didn't change anything... Hopefully something will come up to fix this since I'd like being able to play soon again

Harumph. Thought we had it! Let's give this one a shot then,

There's a line on there that states the following:

    SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D9"

Give a shot to changing this setting to:

    SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D11"

Once that has been completed, save the document and close it. Then right-click on the Usersettings.txt file, select properties, and check the box for Read Only. Hit apply, ok, then try launching the game and let us know if this helps!

Hi! I tried changing it to "D3D11" and making it Read Only, but it didn't change anything. I've also tried reducing the number of active cores through msconfig which didn't have an effect either. I also noticed something strange while trying to take screenshots of the pink textures... every screenshot shows as "File is empty". Not sure if that's related or an entirely separate issue.

    Hey there @daeshanifyb16_ESO,

Does the same issue occur if you run the game in Windowed mode?

I don't have a second monitor, but I can say that the crashing and pink/black issue exists for me; it also exists for quite a few guildies. Will try repair tool again, and will advise guildies to do the same. Fingers crossed!
