I'm a provisioner and I don't mind this at all. My provisioner routinely "goes grocery shopping" in solo delves and as she's slaughtering lots of baddies while she's at it she's also getting XP and other loot and gold. I kinda wish my local supermarket paid ME to go grocery shopping! LOL

Out in the wilderness, there still are. There are a ton of delves with massive stockpiles of provisioning containers.

Anyway, the other way is to buy your groceries like a civilized person. All ingredients (except for the two tied to purple recipes (oats and tomatoes on live, but they have new names on 1.6)) are available for 10g a piece.

Brewers now have drink ingredients, and chefs now have a full stock of food ingredients. You might need to hunt down the grocers for specific ingredients. I'm not sure, but I didn't see anything that would have required that.

OK, I'll hold my hands up, I skimmed through the thread, and missed Starkerealm's mentioning of the grocers.

This has been confirmed. I didn't realize you could buy 90% of the required mats from chefs/brewers now. I had only checked the Grocers before I created this thread. My apologies.

I'm sure there are all kinds of places in the world where you could find such things!
That's not the point, yes there are a FEW crates in various places, however by a huge order the biggest concentration of containers are in the cities .. where you'll open yourself up to PVP if you try to get stuff there.

Go to your faction's gates in Cyrodiil where there is no Justice System. There are numerous containers all of which you can browse and empty without being a thief or confronting enemy players. The other locations in Cyrodiil have containers you can search freely but you might bump into players from enemy factions.

Not yet you won't. PvP is not yet part of the Justice System. And I think they're actually waffling on adding it now. Just a hunch but... >.>

I finally got a chance to start the PTS download and hope to have time to check it out tonight or tomorrow.

My question is, is the new 10g flat price for non-purple recipe ingredients permanent or just a transitional price for trading in the old ingredients for new ones? It's quite a good price that will allow provisioning to still be very accessible to people who don't wish to steal. That's why I fear it's too good to be true!

So far, that doesn't seem to be the case at all. 95% of the containers I've seen are private. This includes crates and barrels on city docks.

    2cz3frt.png

Now of course you can make the argument that this is realistic since all items in town in crates and baskets technically belong to someone, but provisioning is a major part of the game and many people are concerned that they will be forced to draw the wrath of the local guards just to make a pie. Many assurances were given that this wouldn't be an issue.

Hopefully this gets adjusted before 1.6 goes live, because right now almost every container is going to require a burglar. At least in town.

EDIT: It was mentioned in this thread that most of the mats required for food/drink can be purchased from chefs/brewers. This indeed appears to be the case. I had only checked the grocer before making this post. Just about everything you need can be bought for 10g from Grocer/Brewer/Chef. It didn't occur to me to check brewer/chefs because this change is also new with 1.6

My apologies for being mistaken. It would appear that we can buy our groceries like civilized folk, or we can steal them from civilized folk. :)

Purple recipe mats are a different matter. At least that is the word on the street.

I think this is an awesome change.

    1. There are plenty of delves where you can grab a ton of provisioning materials if you don't want to risk stealing them - you'll just have to fight a bunch of mobs to do so.
    2. If you're looking to level up your LD skill the fact that basically all containers in cities are owned gives you a great opportunity to do so, while also getting you provisioning mats.
    3. If you don't want to risk getting caught stealing, or risk fighting mobs in order to get mats, you can buy them all (except for the ones that you don't find in containers anyway) relatively cheaply from many merchants.

All told, I think this is win-win.

Now can anyone who has played on the PTS (I'll be downloading it while I'm at work and giving it a shot later tonight hopefully) say what happened with stale ingredients?

Right, well in all fairness, city docks are (were) by far the easiest and most accessible place to farm provisioning mats. As well as warehouses. I am currently searching for different places that fit the bill as "lawless" or "unsavory" locations to find provisioning food. There are some crates in dungeons of course and the occasional bandit camps. But make no mistake about it - It will definitely require more footwork. Unless you want to steal it of course.

Everyday I log into my low levels in the Auridon Bank and looted all chests and stuff in there. I was dreading the Justice system as I thought I was going to lose out on all that loot. I figured it would be impossible to loot them with guards/witnesses all about. I was sure wrong and I'm glad about that. I have yet to get caught stealing something in the bank there. Position yourself in a decent spot and stealth, you can pretty much grab anything around.

Now in Reapers that's a different issue.... While trying to loot the building by the Provisioning campfire I was seen twice upstairs by people walking around sweeping...DOH! Amassed a 250g bounty in like 10 seconds. Luckily the things I had pilfered were worth a lot more than that! It was a breeze sneaking over to the Refuge and paying off my bounty.

One question for everyone, if you switch zones and go into a new Refuge, can you fence more items? Or is it a max of 50 per day total across all zones?

They changed their mind about selling ingredients at chefs and brewers a while back on the PTS, so on live grocers are going to be your only source for purchasing ingredients (well, other than buying them from guild stores or other players).

Having said that, I'm not sure why the grocer you're trying to buy from only has veggies for sale. My understanding was that they were supposed to sell everything except for the rare ingredients that only come from hirelings.

There's also another really good way of getting ingredients that doesn't require stealing them, searching in delves, or buying them: do provisioning writs. Seriously, the rewards for provisioning writs are totally worth it compared to the small investment in ingredients that you put into them. Unless things have changed for them since the last time I checked on PTS, anyway.

I really don't understand why they don't balance this out a little bit and have containers that are sitting outside, but not around a vendor's space be free to loot. All the other ES games allowed this. But if you tried to take something from inside a house, it would be considered stealing.

Also, groceries can be purchased for 150g, not 10g like they originally announced which really sucks.

He stands in the harbour in Vulkhel Guard. I don't know if he is special and only has a limited supply?
Thanks for the advice about Writs, I can only agree. It is because I am doing writs I am running into problems getting what I need.
I get low-level writs, that ask for poultry, white meat, wheat, rice and rye. I can buy the carrot, corn and apples at the grocer.
The few writs I have been able to make have given me ingredients for recipes that I have never seen be used for writs. But they do give ingredients and also a fair amount of them, I just wish they would give ingredients I could use for something :)

    150 gold for a pumpkin?
That's going to be some expensive pie.

Still, as long as i can buy the stuff i need to make food, i'm happy (provided the full cost is not going to be completely nuts or anything).
Could not find the mats i needed for the writ at Craglorn grocer though, so either not all mats are sold, or not all grocers have full list (or i can't read a damn list, which is also possible), need to do some checking on that.

This is a very old thread from the first week of 1.6 being on the PTS. I would EDIT the OP, but it seems we no longer have that option with the new forum format. Most of the provisioning mats ARE NOT available on chefs/innkeepers/grocers. That was changed very early in patch 1.6.1 or 1.6.2. So the OP is inaccurate. You will have to steal most provisioning mats or find them in the wild.

No. The highest Recipe goes to VR10 and they are Purple rare ones

Also people should not have any issue finding recipes or mats in the game. I have been able to find a heck of a lot tonight., Mind you the rarer items are hard to find, but most can be purchased, so just loot all the crates and if we can keep selling them for 10g for a while we can at least compensate.
Most of the recipes I found were all green ones, but I had found 6 of them and 1 blue.

If i want some light or medium armor, i have to go hunt for it outside of town. If i want some heavy armor, i have to dig a lot around and again outside of town...wait i forgot that if i want some wood i also have to go outside... and you want to be able to pick up your mat inside the town without impunity or risk and say it's not balanced??? Where is the lol button when you need one...

If they balanced the thing like you want they would have to add 100's of tree trunks mat, flower mat, ore mat, etc inside the wall of the town to equal the number of container you can loot. Not only that but only available to you since if i remember correctly when you loot a container like a barrel, create you only looted for yourself. Some else can come and looted too.

Provisioning is the easiest of the lot. I reached lvl 50 on a character before he even reached lvl 20. I only needed one blue recipe that was lvl 10 and i was flying all the way to 50.

Note : yes you can find some flower, wood, metal inside a town but it's not even close to equal the number of lootable container we had before.

You are assuming far, far too much into what you think that I want when I say they need to balance it a little.

They wouldn't have to add anything additional what so ever to the town that is not already there. The only thing they would have to do is make barrels and crates that sit outside of a house in a town, free to loot. Perhaps put it so there is a chance to find a Racial Motif in a crate or barrel. That's it. If someone got to it before you did, then too bad for you, leave and come back later.

I am well aware provisioning is the easiest skill to level. I was level 15 when I maxed it out, so the current justice system will make it just a little bit harder to attain for some people, but I highly doubt it.

But this is also an immersive world and it was made for players to run around and explore, and it is very clear that is what the developers want people to do. Explore to gain what you need. You also forces you to decide what is more important. The provisioning items or the other loot you can sell.

If you are actually playing the game, doing quests, delves, etc, you get a many, many many provisioning mats everywhere. I have stacks upon stacks of the new mats after a couple of days. When I am ready, I am going to use the mats I don't need to make foods/drinks to sell so I can buy the harder to find bananas, melons and pumpkins.
(But, seeing how I have nearly 300 Potentates Supreme Cioppine, and 500 Nix Hound Chili, that's going to be a while)

But for someone who doesn't like to leave the town, or just grinds to gain levels in certain areas that won't drop Recipes etc, then yea that person is going to have a heck of a problem being able to get the mats they need. I am wondering how hard it is going to be to find a Purple Recipe now.

150g for food at a Grocer that used to cost 63g is a bit of a p-off. That is far, far too much. 80g would have been more reasonable, but I think they realized how many people were purposefully hoarding provisioning mats prior to release. I can only hope they reduce the cost in the future to be more reasonable for new players.

I also have to note, my hirelings are giving me a really good amount of Mats as well. I was presently surprised by the Bervez Juice and Frost Marjoram I received (particularly how much).

I don't like some of the changes they have made with the Justice and CP system when it comes to Mats, but the changes can be worked with and I have had much more success than I thought I would and have adapted to compensate.

I have zero issues with finding ingredients in the new system. Stealing is easy, it just takes a little more time than before - and it's balanced by the stacks I get from hirelings and writs.

But some of us don't want to steal in the game. I always play my characters as very moral. I will never do any stealing in this game.
We were always stealing, the game just didn't inform us of it. Did you think it was moral to walk into someone's house and rummage through their things? To loot every basket in an inn? To read people's private correspondence? Did you think that apple grove belonged to no one, that dozens of baskets filled with harvested apples just appeared out of thin air?

As far as I'm concerned, nothing has changed. If you don't want to steal, that's fine, there are plenty of unowned container In the world.

150g for food at a Grocer that used to cost 63g is a bit of a p-off. That is far, far too much. 80g would have been more reasonable,
What you're not taking into account there is the fact that the number of ingredients required to make a recipe has decreased. Recipes that used to take 2 ingredients now only take 1.
