Fiery Grip, now a random gap closer.

From the PTS notes.
Fiery Grip

If the target of Fiery Grip is unable to be pulled to you for any reason, you will now be pulled to the target.

This is not good, for PvP or PvE.

In PvP
I don't want to find myself pulled into an enemy zerg because the guy got rooted right before I cast chains on him. What I want is to pull the guy out of his zerg into npcs so that I can kill him not get pulled into his zerg.

In PvE if I cast this against an immovable foe then I might get pulled out of heals, or if I am the tank I just got pulled out of my neat little stack of grouped up enemies.

Theoretical exploit. You just fixed dragon leap so people can't get up the scroll gate wall but you have opened up a new way with this change. Gate guards are immovable, so theoretically this would cause me to be pulled to them once the the nuker is down and I'm over the scroll gate wall.

Exploit aside, in my personal opinion I would rather have empowered chains (the damage buff morph) become a forward gap closer with upfront damage, and leave the other morph as a backward gap closer. Either way I want to know which way I will be going when I cast this thing.

anytime you "unintentionally" move a player is not good. I don't even have this class and can see where this is fairly exploitable as well undesirable in group pve.

There are upsides and downsides to the change. In group fights in PvP, you may not want to pull yourself into a zerg, so you may not want to run this. However, in a 1v1 situation, DKs now have a way to close the gap between them and a bolting/escaping enemy whether they are CC immune or not.

As for the scroll gates, if NPCs are up they will generally instantly kill you if you get up to them. I think the more recent method has the DK getting the killing blow with dragon leap in order to avoid this, but getting the killing blow with fiery grip won't be as easy.

I feel bad for DK's with this change. It honestly feels like they had no idea how to make it work and just threw this together because it was easier to code.

Random chances with skills that might move your character is a terrible terrible idea. No one will use this seriously.

"unable to be pulled for any reason"

So If I cant pull the enemy toward me because the terrain is not flat, I will be pulled up or down to them? 1) exploit 2) stupid since the point of a pull,,,,,is to pull.

Yeah, the more I think about this the more I really want this as an option. Having a gap closer is really a necessity if you ever want to kill a sorc, and that limits us to 2h or s/b. If they make this change strictly to the empowering morph then we have a gap closer for all weapon types increasing our build diversity. I would leave it as a forward or backward chain within the empowering morph, while leaving the extended morph as a pull only.

The s/b gap closer has a nice long knock down and the 2h gap closer has incredible upfront damage. I think for this morph to compare it would need some real upfront damage along with the empower. It would also need the same cost reduction as extended chains to be even with the other gap closer costs. I think it should also be 22 meters to compare with the other gap closers.

The above changes would steal everything from extended chains, however you could make this morph stun the target for 2-3 seconds after it is pulled. This would be great for pvp and pve. This would prevent archers and mages from doing the walk back after a pull, as well as CC newly pulled mobs into the mob group. In PvP people just roll back to the herd after you pull them so this would give you a moment to get some damage in.
