Cannot complete download to install

I am waiting to get a call from Tech Support about this issue, but I think I'll be waiting for that call like the ugly girl waits to get invited to the prom.

Maybe someone can shed a little light on my issue.

I get the install_ESO.exe file and start it. I get a load screen that opens the file. I get to accept the EULA and install the DirectX and V++, then it says installing uninstaller and the bar runs across the screen. Everything you'd expect to see when downloading a game.

That completes and the launcher is supposed to open but instead a screen that says "Loading" and nothing else (no icons nothing but a picture and the word "Loading") *picture attached, this is where I get stopped. I cannot open anything that would push this along. I was instructed to remove the subdirectory "ProgramData" and manually start the Bethesda_Launcher in Administrator Mode. It immediately replaces the ProgramData subdirectory and comes to the same blank "Loading" screen.

When I look at the Host.developer text file it has a troubling line in it:

Start file [C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\Launcher\ProgramData\Host.dc170dba81ddf1d6d35f51b7e692cc50f4a4ccba\061b8d0af8fa3d892fdc9723a00d5d6ccff18f5a.patchmanifest.partial] [S:0k] [E:0k] [P:0k]
File validation (C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\Launcher\ProgramData\Host.dc170dba81ddf1d6d35f51b7e692cc50f4a4ccba\061b8d0af8fa3d892fdc9723a00d5d6ccff18f5a.patchmanifest) failed

I read in these forums it may be due to Microsoft .NET needing to be updated... done. Same result.

I spent over an hour with Symantec last night trying to make sure it was not a firewall/anti-virus issue. after 3 intensive scans and even removal of Norton 360, no change... still the loading screen and nothing else.

I don't get error codes, nothing but that screen and it was up for over 3 hours so it isn't loading squat! I have had this game on this system before and it ran as good as it could considering the game's inherent issues. I unsubbed last May after getting tired of the incomplete quests and bugginess.

I'm trying to give the game another shot but the friggin game won't install!! Does anyone have a suggestion???

EURECKA!! I FOUND THE RESOLUTION !!

I went searching the forums and I found a post about manifest unzip errors. The ZOS rep that answered the post and provided this information:

    Hey there!

If this didn't help, please give the following steps a shot. As this edits an important networking file on the computer, please ensure that you follow the steps precisely to avoid any issues.
1.Open the Run menu by pressing the Windows key and R

2.Type in the following command to the runbox: notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

3.Once Notepad has opened the file, search for the line that contains the following information:
    4.##.##.##.## launcher.bethesda.net

Please note that the # represents the numbers of the direct IP Address

5.Delete that entire line from the Hosts file

6.Save the changes but do NOT use "Save As" because this will change the Hosts file's extension

Important: If the launcher.bethesda.net line is not there, do not edit anything else in this file.

If this doesn't help, please let us know!

I followed those procedures and fixed the issue... the game is downloading finally!!

I found that you need to open NOTEPAD and run as Administrator to be allowed to change the file and save it but otherwise that fix is the answer!
