ZOS hedging ?

some of us here have played EQ2 and Rift to name a few. We went through F2P migration on both (i also played SWTOR) and find this latest transition by ZOS the worst of them all.

considering that it will be 6 months until the dust settles, which include failed or bugged patches (not unique to EOS). considering bait-and-switch of store going from cosmetic to more game related items within 6 months. considering focus shifts on next game being added to lineup and again, more costumes in store. it will be a rough 6 months.

knowing this will happen, my concern is more about the fact this product will be (1) on consoles (should i jump onto my ps4 or xbox one and continue the adventure?). (2) the PC/Mac product will provide "rental" AND/OR "buy" DLC (somewhat like fios does with movies now). and (3) finally ESO-plus and it's value.

all of these put together makes this announcement by ZOS unique in the MMO world and feels like a hedging of bets to be everything to everyone. but to me it really means lack of focus and management if this is the real direction ESO and ZOS is heading.

my guess is many have rage quit by now. MMO news sites show a sharp drop in EOS chart ratings today. and online /zone chat is nothing but "should i" at this time?

i would continue playing ESO if and only if they drop the "rental" part of ESO Plus. it is a major issue with me. aside from bugs and such, i cant get past this latest move by ZOS.

I think this outlook is a flawed logic. Right now if you no longer subscribe you lose access to EVERYTHING, you can't even log into the damned game. Once the conversion happens you will just lose access to the DLC/expansions. You will still be able to play the game if your sub lapses. How is that somehow worse than losing access completely?

Yes, you can run in circles around say Dagerfall for free on your max level character.

I do agree with the lack of focus. ZoS seems to be making huge changes all at once. They might have a solid plan but not sure it is being implemented in the best way.

Everything up until and including 1.6 will be included without need for purchase/subscription. So you'll still be sitting around in Craglorn on your max level.

thats exactly the point, were sitting around craglorn while they built a cash shop....but dont worry now that subs are optional, and we have a cash shop the content will flow even faster................
never mind the fact they have managed to yet again create a new set of pissed off people.
will they get new ones, sure but with this many delays on console, all the great press the game has had. its not like theyre gonna be having midnight releases for this game. skyrim did 13mill on both consoles, bet you eso doesnt clear 5 mill across both consoles. and ps4 alone has reached 20+million doubt xbone is far behind so theres plenty of players.

When March 17 rolls around, the "right now" we have today no longer applies.

Yes, in the current premium subscription game, you lose all access to the game. This all changes.

After March 17, you don't have to lose all access to the game. You only lose access to parts of the game if you decided to pretend the game was a premium subscription game instead of a buy to play cash store game.

I am heavily leaning towards the cash shop a la carte instead of a subscription. It all really depends on how much that first DLC costs. Two years of ESO Plus will be around $350 in DLC rental. If you are not planning to quit, this is not an issue, but no one knows what this game will look like in 2 years.
