I think that the most senior @ZOS people are putting their careers on the line. 5 years from now, when Paul Sage and Matt Firor will have moved on to a new project, future players will wonder if that new game is worth settling in since the dev team cannot be trusted.
If the transition doesn't happen smoothly, they probably won't work on new MMOs other than Candy Crush online.
