I really love ESO, in a sort of casual way. I love to play it on-and-off, and some weeks I just find myself interested in other games. money is really tight these days for many Americans.

I'm sure I am not alone in being excited to be able to play for free! I have two computers, two accounts, but can't afford $30 a month just for one game for me and my girl, when so many others don't have a subscription fee.

Don't sell anything that gives other players and advantage.

I would avoid selling shortcuts, too.

I somehow doubt the game collapses now that it's free to play. Think about all the people that just sort of like it, bought it, but don't subscribe because they don't feel that strongly about it? Those people will actually play now.

I spend more than $30 a month on beard oil and salted almonds.

If you cant afford a subscription based game, you should prob look at your life/career choices rather than expect the game/world to conform to your lack of socioeconomic status.

Well you better start saving that $30 each month because you can bet for sure any new content in future will come with a price tag. Starting with Wrothgar and the other zone. Nothing is ever free.

No MMO with an ingame cash shop is worth playing. F2P ruins games in sooo many ways.

Discussing the long term toll a cash shop takes on formerly sub based MMOs is not petty, selfish, or short sighted. Infact, immediately equating it to "I get to not pay anymore and now some more people who aren't really all that interested can try it" is far more fitting of your accusations.

We're all hoping ESO doesn't end up like the multitudes of other MMOs who increasingly place the development focus on the cash store, but lashing out at people who are reacting based on previous experience isn't the correct approach, imo.

Im all with you here. Think its all fine as long as they dont give you better items in the shop. And if we like we can keep the sub and nothing much will change.

    Ya.

Just look at LoTRO after F2P.

It pretty much died, despite the influx of new players at the beginning of the switch.

Why did that happen? Because you actually need revenue to pay for game development. And when revenue starts to drop off, guess what? Game development ceases.

That's exactly what happened with LoTRO.

Financial side of life is not easy for everyone, so paying a monthly sub for a game could be a luxury.

I have no children, so I have no reason to feel guilty about gaming as a hobby despite being broke.

That's money that can be spent on other stuff. Other games!

I'd love $30 worth of indie games a month, or a "AAA" every other!

At this point I would rather play with 12 year olds who didn't grow up getting screwed over by boilerplate MMO cashgrabs who just assume every game will go that route if it goes F2P.

Even if they're a little shallow, at least they just evaluate things based on their experiences and what's actually there. In a way the younger generation has been more honest and realistic than most 20-somethings I'm talking to now.

This is Bethesda's MMO, and their only MMO. It's not going to get thrown to the wayside. Many of the changes being made are specifically to make sure it has a future. Many of them modernize the game in really critical ways.

If you can't see that, I'm sorry.

The ONLY concern we should have now is obviously PAY TO WIN. It's a fine line. Sony has left a bad taste in my mouth with Planetside 2. I hope ESO doesn't end up feeling that way.

Watch the people who don't like the game enough to justify a sub roll in and outnumber the horrible, negative, hateful, sky-is-falling crowd on here. It's going to be glorious.

I mean, I can put it above Runescape. Right?

We can put it above Runescape? It does stuff like Runescape but better, right?

In my experience its not the cash shop that destroys the mmo but the community. One of my first online experiences gaming was battle.net chat for Diablo and that was mostly a toxic environment that evolved and still remains prevalent today... and that game didn't even have a cash shop.

A majority of the people here are equating cash shop = horrendous community when its in fact the community itself that incurs the majority of vicious and inappropriate behaviour. Look at how people who have abused exploits to garner an advantage over others are treated currently. In this very game no less.

This is the human condition and the very basis of our conflict. If you haven't been able to identify the problem by now after years of community gaming, I suggest you to take a page out of real life experiences with social interaction. This is coming from someone who pvps for his job in real life.

On a more deeper note, The Elder Scrolls is the Flagship IP of Bethesda and I highly doubt they would make deliberate decisions to destroy the integrity of the label.

Partial upgrades. My PC has never cost me more than $400 at a time. First I did core systems CPU and mobo, using my old graphics card, then I got the graphics card and the full RAM and hard drive. The cool part about this is that if you're gentle and care for your things, you end up with an extra old computer once you finish a full cycle, which can be sold for a return or used as a media box, lighter gaming rig, or old game server.

Basically you gotta be a pro.

Also I am an industry insider and get parts stupidly cheap directly from Intel.

You only need about $900 for the tower, by the way. Build it yourself.

    I also have both a PS4 and X1

They shouldn't have to "modernize" a game that's barely been out a year.

It should have been "modernized" from the beginning instead of released with many missing mechanics that are considered standard for MMOs today.

This is just further reasoning that we've participated in a paid beta test for the past year.

You're right, they should not have had to. They *** it up pretty good though, so they did. They're lucky their artists are so amazing, otherwise I wouldn't have stuck around. It's a chill and pretty game.

I don't know if "beta test" is really fair, I had a lot of fun and those vet dungeons were very challenging and exciting the first time around when under-geared and unprepared.

Anyway it's nowhere near the letdown Destiny was. I mean, at least it was an MMO. Lately publishers have been releasing games marketed as MMO's that aren't even [snip] MMO's.

And no your 8 player top down ARPG is not an MMO because you can trade with other players, and neither is your 10 player arena based game, and neither is your shooter.

Perhaps they had the money at the time of purchase & may well have had their rig well before this game was released, who knows. Does not take rocket scientist to work that out. The point was, things are tight financially for some people.

I agree... ESO going B2P is very good news. I am looking forward to these changes.

On the other hand, to all the whiners in this and other threads:

The game is going B2P. Period. The end.

If it really, really bothers you that much, why are you still here? Rather than throwing childish tantrums in the forums, your time would be better spent searching for some other game to play instead of ESO (now that going B2P has ruined it for you).

BTW, those other games are all thataway =======>

    Have fun.
