maybe I lost my character and profile

Hello,

yesterday EU mega server went down for 1 hour or less, once the issue has been recovered, when I started my client, it started automatically a new INSTALL

I believe, and I'm pretty sure that cause has been by my goofing trying to log into the US server, by the way my misfortune continue, after all long download of yesterday and this morning, once the game has been again installed, it was (yes again) a US version instead of EU.... and starting the client, ESO requested me to create a new Character...

All right, lucky me!
I wrote to the support staff, hoping there is a chance to use the US .bik files, avoiding again a new download, and yes while waiting an answer, i started "again" to download the game, this time through the correct Megaserver (EU one)

Now, my question is:
"do I lost my characters, my levels, all achievements ?"

e.g. if I delete totally ESO from my computer, or if I install it to another one, I lose everything ?

Someone had an experience like that ?

Thanks to everyone that could help me.
Regards,

    Hey there @CranCat,

All of your characters, levels, achievements, and pretty much anything you'd miss are stored server-side, so you won't lose any progress! Worst case scenario, you'll lose your personal usersettings with a complete uninstall, but that's about it.

There is a way to swap megaservers without redownloading the entire game. We'll go ahead and include those instructions below in a spoiler as they're pretty long. Hope it helps!
To switch servers without reinstalling the game, please follow the below process:

Please note, you will need an additional 30-50GB of hdd space and an internet connection to complete the below process.
1.Go to the default installation directory (By default: C:\Program Files\Zenimax Online)
2.Select all three folders (Launcher, The Elder Scrolls Online, uninstall) and copy them (Ctrl+C)
3.Create a new folder wherever you choose (in my case I went to C:\Program Files and created a new Folder titled "Zenimax Online EU")
4.Once your folder is created, open it and paste (Ctrl+V) the files you copied into it
5.Open the folder you just created (Zenimax Online EU)
    6.Open the "Launcher" folder
7.Look for a settings file titled "Launcher"
    8.Open that file with wordpad
9.Look for the setting "region" and change the value from US to EN and save the changes made
10.Download the Game launcher installer by logging into your account page at https://account.elderscrollsonline.com
11.Run the Launcher Installer:1.Select your language
2.Skip through the developer cut scenes
    3.Accept the Terms of Use

12.Next, change the install location to your copied folders location (In my case C:\Program Files\Zenimax Online EU)
13.Deselect "Add The Elder Scrolls Online Desktop Shortcut"
    14.Select "Europe" under Megaserver Selection
15.Deselect the DirectX and VC++ Prerequisites
16.Begin the Install and Allow the Launcher and Uninstaller to be applied
17.When the launcher begins to download, you will see two headings within the launcher itself: Games and News
18.Click "Game Options" and select "Repair" from the drop down menu and let the process complete. This will verify the proper files are intact and will fill any gaps if any that was left out during the copy/paste process
19.Once this is finished, go to the Zenimax Online EU folder you created, click the launcher folder continue on like you would if you were playing on the NA/US server using the same login information
20.To go back to the NA/US server, simply use the default files instead of the copied ones!

Note: If you are on a 64-bit system, the default directory will be C:\Program Files x86\Zenimax Online.

Everything is saved on the server. You can't lose any characters if you delete something on your computer.

Most likely you logged in to the wrong server. Your Eu server character won't show up on the NA server and vice versa. Hit the gear icon in the upper right corner of your launcher to see on which megaserver you are trying to log in.

    Hope that helps

It's possible to have 2 different sets of characters, one on the NA server and one on the EU server, so your EU characters are still safe and you should see them when you finish downloading the client.

PS: Make sure you don't log into the PTS by mistake. ;)
    Wololo.

    Hi GaryA,
yes, it could help, dunno why, but checking if the game works, starting with actual US folders, is downloading again almost 5Gb of stuff, is not a problem, I can afford 5 more

Once it is complete and working, I'm going to start your procedure.

One more question, I believe that on point #8 above the correct value for EU megaserver should be EU and not EN (change value from US to EU)

    Am I correct ?

Thanks a lot for your help, I'm crossing the fingers that will work avoiding me to download again 38 GigaBytes of stuff.
    :-)

    Hey there @CranCat,

You're certainly right about step 8. Looks like we have a KB to edit. Thanks for pointing that out!

Yup, I confirm, correct parameter is EU, and yes, I'm in Tamriel again, your workaround worked as well.
    Thanks a lot!
    I appreciate your help.
