Block Casting *IS* Getting Nerfed In 1.6

Has anyone seen the lore book "The Mirror" in ESO?
I agree blocking needs to be adjusted. Obviously under the current system it is to easy to raise the pools to overcome skill limitation. I did like features in past games where what you did effected how you could advance your attributes. Of course people would still just hold block all the time to get the option to raise stamina if that was their play style.
Maybe have it so the longer block is held the quicker stamina is drained? If you have ever held something up for an extended period of time at first it is not to bad but it becomes harder and harder the longer you hold something.

Yo dawg. I heard you like block-casting, so we put a shield on yo shield so you can block while you block!

What about if block can be bashed? If you hold block a player can bash you and you are out of balance and bash make damage like an interrupt.

I'd actually love to see something like this implemented.

Strangely enough, I was thinking about something similar just the other night, though I was thinking more of something like a "Throw" move (showing my fighting game-era roots right here, lol).

In most games where players can block and turtle, there is a counter mechanic that allows you to get through this kind of lame defense, ensuring that players can't just hold down the block button indefinitely. In ESO, stamina drain from blocking was supposed to be this limiting function, but obviously that has been a complete and utter failure.

Something like what @Charadras has mentioned here would be a nice solution, imo. I was personally considering a move that you could use that costs stamina to throw a blocking opponent to the ground, causing them to be vulnerable for 2-3 seconds.

That way, blocking becomes a more dynamic occurrence for fear of leaving yourself open to unmitigated damage if you rely too heavily on holding down your block button.

Frost drains stamina, lightning drains magicka! Boom! Problems solved!

The stam drain while blocking is immense in 1.6 fyi. Damage shield stacking is still the way to go.

No actually, it is possible to drop their block casting abilities in a 1v1 situation. I have done so numerous times.

No... I don't like his incessant juvenile banter. I don't pvp, so I don't give a damn one way or the other. I do worry if they increased the cost to block significantly... yet another PVE effect because their PVP system is garbage.

Oh? You might want to read THIS thread before you think I'm just speculating that current abilities/passives that generate additional Ultimate will continue to do so in 1.6. If you can't find it, Gina Bruno's response is the 6th reply down from the OP.

Why didnt you just quote it? Because that's not what it says at all. Show me where it says that:
That's not the only way to generate Ultimate; you can also use a few abilities to get more, such as Carve from the 2H skill line (and the amount of Ultimate that ability gives has been rebalanced as well) or healing another player with the Ultimate gain buff. You will not gain Ultimate by blocking or dodging.

No more ultimate from blocking or dodging as well. =)

There ARE only a FEW abilities/passives that generate additional Ultimate, EXACTLY what Gina said will still continue in 1.6.

Now I'm interested on how will Tanks generate ultimate

Well you can't sometimes, in most cases you can't stop blocking every 9 seconds, maybe your resources run out or because of coordination or situation..the point is tanks or those kind of people will earn more less ultimate points than others...

Blockcasting and animation canceling are the two things I point to when someone asks me when Spellcrafting will become a reality. IMO... that will be never, since they have so much trouble balancing the skills they introduce themselves, which are supposed to be fully thought out. Imagine once we get our hands on a flexible system... *shudder*.

I wasn't saying you couldn't drop block to la in most instances. And I agree that making it easier for a tank to block makes sense, but, for leveling, making block prohibitively expensive makes little sense. And, it certainly craps on people who want to level as stamina. You HAVE to block in certain instances... I just hope it isn't too punitive.

I'll be on the PTS over the weekend testing my chars to see how different it is.

*shudder*.

    FULLY agree!

he actually has it :P I have seen him on it lol and yea block casting is still a thing but your stamina drops FAST! @zos PLEASE DO NOT FIX THIS!!!!!!! keep the stamina drain from blocking EXACTLY how it is in 1.6!!!! Do not adjust it at all! I love the fact that block casters drop so freaking fast. bye bye stamina!

I'm assuming you mean in PvP with aoe going on, right?

No actually, it is possible to drop their block casting abilities in a 1v1 situation. I have done so numerous times.

Did the cost to block increase?

Yes it did, and drastically as was needed!

You can see the block symbol but they still drop like anyone else cuz they dun run out of stamina! It's fantastic!

    Another /ignore.

Let me guess, you dont like not being able to block cast? I dont get why you would ignore him lol

No... I don't like his incessant juvenile banter. I don't pvp, so I don't give a damn one way or the other. I do worry if they increased the cost to block significantly... yet another PVE effect because their PVP system is garbage.

That makes sense then :D It really doesnt affect pve though as no one is having problems blocking or tanking in trials. Just pop on heavy armor and tank away! The 30% to block cost is huge with the current system in 1.6

As for the not being able to drop your guard, that is just insane. It is fully possible to drop your guard for a fraction of a second and animation cancel your light attack by going back into blocking.

The one thing you have to keep in mind though, @Robocles‌, is that the champion system allows you to get back to where you were on 1.5. You just have to spec it properly now :D you WILL notice a difference, but build your guy right in CS and it will be the same :D

I'm more worried about newer players with these thoughts.

I'll have my 70 CP...and will have tested/researched where to put them all, even on my sub vet level toons. I just hope that this whole "let the Champ System even it out" idea doesn't wreck lowbie content for people with no characters to gain the Champ buffs.

I suppose I can create a new toon and see how it levels compared to live, without using the CP.

It's still a stupid mechanic. I wonder if ZOS is even capable of fixing it at this point since there isn't really any reason to keep it and the only explanation left is that they simply don't know how.

If they could, they would have by now. Much like the animation cancelling meta we currently have.
Which is also why they probably won't respond to it either. It's one of the things that bothers me most about combat in this game.

Well new players wont have any idea about the old ways. Therefor everything is fresh to them and they have no clue of the previous meta. So I would not worry about them to much :P

Just wondering how the group content will go with that kind of block cost.

Agreed, though... they won't know the difference.

The stam drain while blocking is immense in 1.6 fyi. Damage shield stacking is still the way to go.

70 CP doesnt even get you close to where your 1.5 character was though sadly.
