Opt-in/out is fine with me. As long as it's not forced and in no way interferes with my gameplay.

Unless its a completely separate sever there is no true opt-in / opt-out... ESO would lose more then half its player base if it has open world PVP and I bet they will lose many if they cant figure out the NPC ganking / mistake ganking / AoE issues in groups etc, that will happen with the "justice system"

I get it. My post was directed specifically at the OP, who doesn't seem to be a fan of the opt-out system since inability to kill other players apparently breaks his immersion and he wants to, I quote, "kill everybody in their way."

I have no opinion about opt-out because I haven't played other MMOs, so I don't know how it usually works out. I'll wait and see when the Justice System arrives.

If your gameplay is not impacted in a meaningful way then as far as I'm concerned you're "truly" opted out. If you can still complete your quests and sell/buy from vendors there is no actual impact on your gameplay. Is there an impact on atmosphere/tone? Yes, absolutely. Whether that's a positive or negative impact is a matter of opinion.

You have too much faith in Zenimax who cant even get 1 zone of PVP to work...

They have given me many reasons to have faith in them. Then again I'm not a cynic. Also don't play in Thornblade and Cyrodiil is great or if you're in Thornblade stay away from the zerg and it's great.

The VR14 3600CP PVP players want open world PVP so they can show off their massive huge epeens...

I'm not veteran and I want it.

We can't even do a simple duel in towns. xD

Try: maybe lots of people would leave the game because of griefers. Gankers abound!

There are many possibility to avoid that :

I don't want to kill everybody in my way, it was just an example for people in general.

I don't say that I want to be the killer. I say that I want this kind of feature for break the monotony during PvE session, and just sometimes.
I want to have the fear of not being in a safe place all the time.

I don't discount any possibilities and perspective to improve the idea. And seek a compromise between players wanting to play without it and the other is a good thing.

And finally, I respect people who don't want it, it's understandable but an Open PvP can be great for everyone if it's used perfectly, in respect with people who want pve quietly.

I'd think, let them implement the justice system first, then see how that goes. And then... we'll see.

Personally I have seen both versions in other games... free PvP usually ends up with some jerks ganking less powerful players who try and focus on their questing. No PvP often is a bit boring, admitted.
Some balance would have to be found, but again, justice system first, then we know how that works in detail, and can make informed speculations about how it might be expanded to maybe allow players to go "bandit"... or not, as the game plays.

After all, there is still cyrodil and its five towns for those who want to have some PvP fear in their PvE... and there still are some regions of oblivion cyrodil that are not yet in ESO (colovian-gold coast and nibenay-blackwood), possible room for future expansion into mixed PvP/PvE regions...

    Griefing. ZOS will lose subs.

Oh really? Tell me again how WoW lost subs because of ganking. They have the open world PVP and it was doing great, not everyone is an a**hole you know?

Sadly, most a**holes or badmouthing players I encountered in open world pvp - and no I don't mean the 'usual' trash talk.

You might want to check the server populations of the pvp servers ... you wont find a lot of healthy servers with a 50 to 50 ratio of population ... ppl who could afford it moved to a server where their faction was dominant, others just rerolled. And sadly since vanilla most world pvp consisted of end level toons 'ganking' low levels to start a 'real' fight ... and that rarely worked out ever(ofc only my personal experience ... ).

If they manage to introduce a system where you truly can op out completely (not like rift or swtor at start, where your buffs or grounded heals flag'd you for pvp, just cause someone ran into it) I don't mind for open world pvp ... but only time will tell.

Of course they should add the option to turn it off, that was the same practice in WoW in the beginning if I'm not mistaken? I just think it would be awesome to get ganked/to gank from time to time, gives the world a whole new dimension.

If they set up a separate server for open world pvp that would be great for the people who are into it. I'm not though and open world pvp would probably see me leave the game. There is already a pvp zone and if they do a dedicated open world pvp server then that's enough. Not everyone likes pvp and shouldn't be forced into it.

Which is the point of making it an opt-in or opt-out system. If you don't want to participate, then don't.

Well, the game here isn't quite set up for open world PvP like some others where both fractions share the same territories... in those games, it makes little sense to have no PvP (can you imagine a sith and jedi meeting in SWTOR and just waving at each other? Well, it happened a lot on PvE servers...)

And of course, in many instances such games are annoying for a lot of people through endless ganking while they try to do their questing... though of course some thrive on it too.

However... ESO has a different setup, with three fractions and regions divived between them, with only cyrodil as "war torn meeting place" and a few other regions that the fractions could logically meet in, but currently don't (coldharbour, craglorn).
Thus unlimited world PvP is not very logical... unless someone goes "bandit", which may come as add on to the justice system one day. And then I hope it will add some stiff penalties for bandits too, not merely a short waiting period before you can walk into town again...

But the game here has room for expansion... they could easily add combined PvE/PvP regions where people stumble over the other fractions while following PvE quests just like in one of those other games... but without keeps and all that. Who knows, maybe they might even change craglorn and coldharbour to that, though considering the story, in those places it would make more sense for the different fractions to be in an uneasy alliance against a larger threat...

They could also add arenas and other small scale PvP possibilities. Time will tell, I suppose. Though I would want to see all the details of the justice system before making noise for yet more...

    Hello!

Maybe a few people don't like this system but, why not implement a PK system on the big world of Skyrim?

More than a 'few' do not like open world PvP/PK.

PVE drives content and players. PVP retains players when not much else is going on.

You need both systems to build and maintain a solid player base.

Forcing one or the other on the entire base is a sure failure for the game.

Zoned PvP is fine. Although I do agree that Cyrodiil is rather bland as a dedicated zone to PvP. I would rather see smaller zones with timed objectives where you fight against each side for a set goal.

Perhaps ZOS needs to take pointers from WoW (yes, yes, I know, just get over it) and create different PvP zones with different objectives.

Hell, I would probably spend time engaged in PvP if there was something to actually DO in the zone other than attack each other.

How about, The Battle for Whiterun?

    30 minutes. 2 sides, 15 minutes each.

You either start as the attackers or defenders and after 15 minutes, switch.

    The objective? Take over Whiterun.

Campaigns run 30 days. At the end of 30 days, the top Attacker and Top Defender each get special character titles that are good only until the end of the next 30 day Campaign.

Cyrodiil is boring as hell. The zone is too big and there are far too many objectives to be done in a reasonable amount of time. The only thing cyrodill is really good for is open as an open lag fest pvp.
