Hi folks,
i'm returning to the game, and looking to try out the DW/2h and bow skills on my templar; however, I have a question for you. My templar is breton, with a previous emphasis on magicka; however, will I be permanently at a disadvantage for not selecting a more melee oriented race such as the imperial or redguard? I know there's a significant update coming soon with 1.6, but I was wanting to get some opinions, so if I need to reroll I can create and level a new character.

On a sidebar, i've always been interested in NB, but I understand their soloing capabilities and self healing are not quite on a level of templar or DK. Is this still accurate?

Yes, NBs still have crappy self heals. Soloing capability... in PvE, is actually high due to cloak. In PvP, depends. ganking=high. straight up combat=often low

As a Breton Templar that runs Sword and Shield and Greatsword, sometimes Bow, I can say the combo will be powerful offensively, but survival may suffer without sufficient magicka to maintain shields/heals and/or a shield for block mitigation. The offense however... >:) With light and medium armor the two most common types, and neither supporting high physical mitigation, the greatsword-bow combo will tear through all but the most armored opponents.

Breton magicka bonuses are never not useful, even if you run stamina builds. A large part of Templar stamina build survivability is based on Sun Shield, so Breton magicka bonuses means more Sun Shields. Not to mention other utility skills like Focused Charge, Restoring Aura, Cleansing Ritual, Rune Focus, etc.

In general, the difference between races is more of a... well, difference, rather than a straight-up "this is strictly better than that". Exceptions are racial passives that only work with certain things, e.g. Adrenaline Rush and Red Diamond only working for melee attacks and Carnage only working for physical attacks. If you never touch what those racials affect then you're effectively down one racial.
