You're on a roll with getting my awesomes today. I really don't get all the dev sucking up that goes down, they haven't been doing a good job at all PvP is in tatters and population is on a downward spiral. People need to be honest and upfront with the devs/designers.
Maybe I'm being obtuse here, but why oh why do people keep saying this? Is it fear mongering? General anxiety disorders? Debbie-Downerism?
Somebody explain this bizarre behaviour to me, please. Use small words, because clearly I'm missing something.

The population most certainly is not in a downward spiral. Quite the opposite. I haven't seen the zones this populated since launch. There are more and more new players every day as evidenced simply my reading guild and zone chat and talking with people in groups. The game is actually growing in popularity and reviews. I recruit for a top trading guild that has 10-15 inactive accounts get booted every day or so, but ya know what? There is no problem finding another 10-15 people to take their place. When it gets to the point that people are leaving faster than they are getting replaced by new players, then I will believe the game is dying.
They need a server maintenance though. It's been almost 3 weeks and the effects are starting to show. Right now with all these returning and new players is not the time to be skipping scheduled maintenance days. Regardless of the holiday season.
I'd like to say it wouldn't but....
- Loyalty system went in place pretty early
- Check your inactive friend/guild lists
- 6 Month sub is MIA (which isn't future thinking and slapping the most loyal of customers out of their $1/month discount)
- PvP pop caps are at 225/225/225 used to be 600/600/600 One server is full and the other doesn't come close to it where as the 600 system used to have 1 and atleast 1/2 another server at pop cap that is massive decline.
Either way we will know by the financial year roll over
Didnt Mr Paul Sage say that he rather kill the game then make it f2p?

If that is the case I would rather see it remain PC only and remain subscription based.
