Motif Drop Rates

The drop rates for all Motifs used to be insanely high according to some. Now it appears it has been nerfed for all levels to insanely low rates. I have spent hours and hours farming and get only 1 maybe 2. Are others experiencing the same? I am not concerned with Dwarven at this time and I am not trying to farm to sell them. I just want to get the Achievement.

No. They are supposed to be rare and some people have runs of bad luck like you may be right now. People start these rumors from time to time because they are selling them and want to get more money.

I found two recently, one was a drop in story mode the other came from a chest. Playtime was about 10 hours in total.

Dwemer motif drops have definitely been nerfed imo. I could get at least 1 a day in my farming spot on both my vr14 toons. Other epic motifs seem rarer also, though i did find a Daedric one the other day, first epic in about 2 weeks.

There have been nerfs the past months, but recently I found 2 Daedric and 1 Ancient Elf at a location among a 2 hour period.

It's annoying though none the less. I haven't tried Dwarven motif hunting in awhile though...

I can easily get 10+ Dwemer motifs per day. The drop rate didn't get nerfed, you just have to know where to farm them at. I have the complete set and the achievement and still have 30 spare motifs in my bank.

Avanchnzel in the Rift is a good one, for AD characters, when I would go I would get one almost every hour maybe 2 pages every 3 hrs. just go in and make a run and check the containers. after going through, wait a hour (approx reset time) give or take 10 to 15 mins and do another run, then do it again. Before you know it you will have a few dwemer pages, sometimes other rare motifs drop as well, I know 3 people who have found the whole dwemer book (all pages in one) as well at Avanchnzel.

Try the Fighters guild dwemer ruin think it is for toons lvl 20 or higher. Just don't complete any of the quest with sees all colors. Just keep rerunning it I get one about every other run. there are so many pots and jars and containers in that run you have a pretty good chance of getting one.

1 or 2 should be good for a couple of hours. Anything more and they flood the economy and lose all value.

Level 15 Fighter's Guild instanced delve called Mzeneldt. Once complete, you can't go back to it. So, if you've complete the Fighter's Guild on your main, you'll have to do this quest on an alt.

Once you get your Dwemer motif and leave the instance or log out of it, it takes an hour for it to reset. This instance also drops all the normal motifs, so if for some reason you get one of those, you might as well stop right there because you won't get a Dwemer one for the rest of the run.

This works best with 2+ alts that have access to this instance.

I still get a Dwarven motif practically every time I run a Dwemer ruin so I doubt it's been nerfed any more.

Doubt it. This instance has been this way since Day 1.

Anyone that says "insanely low" and finds 1+ a day has some crazy expectations.

I've had a good run in the past week or so for motifs. Found two Ancient Elf, three Daedric, and one Imperial. I was actually giving away some of the Daedric to friends because I didn't want to bother selling them in the Guild stores The ones I really have a hard time finding is Primal and Barbaric but I need to do some searching in the lower level zones to get those.

I found 1 (ONE) of the Dwemer books, EVER. Although I always check every single container. I used to do this since pre-launch, that means even before the Dwemer books existed.
I also got no real luck with the other purple motifs, I find maybe 1-3 a month. But never the Imperial motif, though (I wonder how many people have actually found it). I have about 2k playing hours on the clock and if not doing quests, admiring the environment or listening to grazing Guars, I'm farming like as if there's no tomorrow. But still, I mostly have bad luck with these things.
So the ones I didn't find I bought from guild stores. Cost me a fortune. But what choice do I have as a master crafter in all skills, of course I want to know them all (and now I do).

All in the luck of the draw. I have only found one dwemer page, in the fighters guild instance. 2 barbaric while running silver, and just started gold. Although I did find an imperial way back before level 10 and didn't know what it was lol.. And just found one on my other toon the other day. Weird. They were both in Daggerfall.. But the most recent its actually a vet zone for me.

"Insanely rare" drops don't sell for 6-7k a pop in auction houses, like the Dwemer motifs do. Just saying... Also, other rare motifs have been selling well below their former price point (e.g. Barbaric for ~30k).

You can find purple motifs before level 50? Wow. I'm not very lucky.

To my knowledge, you can't find purple outside the VR zones since they became purple. Prior to that, you could. Imperial can be found at any time.

Cadwell's Silver is for Primal and Barbaric. Cadwell's Gold is for Ancient Elf and Daedric. I do not think you can find any of those outside the two alliance VR zones.

I still haven't seen a single Dwarven motif.

I found my first Dwemer Motif page yesterday in Stonefalls on an alt I am leveling. I was not actively farming them and only check containers if I have a need to be a Dwemer Ruin.

I found 4 Blue Motifs yesterday in Rawkla and Wayrest with my Mules/Alts, I now have about 40 of these things.

I have not found one of the original 4 purple motifs in a couple of weeks, but found 3 Daedric in a week period a coupe of weeks ago.

I have not found an Imperial yet other than the one I destroyed during release week.

Seems pretty normal to me.

I've been playing a lot since live and have yet to find a single Imperial motif.

My friend, who plays less than I do, has already found three of them ...

Just bad luck?

Yep, just bad luck for you. I never go farming for motifs, but I have found 2 Imperials since live. Both came from a container inside a delve.

This is also great advice as any farming that you do in this solo-instanced area won't interfere with anyone else's experience - unlike what can happen in standard delves. Mind you, it's not the searching the pots that could interfere with other players - it's the slaughtering of every dwemer construct along the way that could do that.

Personally, I got 2 dwemer pages in about 2 hours yesterday (1 run through the Fighters Guild instance @Sord mentions, and 1 run with guildmates through Avanchnzel - I believe I was the only one out of the 8 of us to get a page in that run). I still get blue motifs semi-regularly, but I've never found a single one of the Barbaric, Daedric, Ancient Elf, Primal, or Imperial motifs. I've really never done any motif farming in vet zones, though, so that's not super surprising.

How the hell are people finding so many motifs at such a frequent rate!?

I always check containers that I come across, and they are always either empty or have cooking mats. The Palace in Wayrest a week ago was the first I ever saw a motif drop since this past Summer.......

LOL, I was selling some excess motifs weekend before last and a player asked me the same question. I asked him if he had a DC character and he did not. So, I told him to roll one and then port to me in Wayrest. Took him to the palace and the third container he opened had a motif in it.

I find a Blue one with almost every Mule log in (if I actually farm the boxes). With 4 mules I find at least 3 motifs a day on the days I farm. Note, once you find a motif in a building, that is it for that building. Either go to another building, or log out then log in again.

Now if your in a VR Instance of Wayrest, your only going to find one of two Purple Motifs, the Imperial and no Blue motifs (they don't drop in VR Instances from what I have seen)

I have found half my Purple (non dwemer's) in VR Wayrest with one character. The rest I found in burned crates in places with enemies, backpacks in places with enemies, and in furniture in VR zones. I don't know if the regular unburned crates drop the Purple Motifs, but I can't remember finding one of them in those.

So, in domesticated areas, search the furniture, in hostile areas, search every container.
