Videos are far form useless and for some people are probably easier to create than written guides.

To clarify, I am not claiming that all videos are useless, nor that video is always the wrong medium. However, ease of creation should not be routinely allowed to trump ease of access to information. This is what is fundamentally wrong with a great deal of YouTube information snippets. Good publishing should be made in the medium that is best suited to the content and to the target group, not in the medium that is most convenient for the author.
Not all YouTube videos are useless, and some content is best suited for a voice-over video presentation, but when I search for a guide on how to fix some small configuration problem with my computer and end up with a video guide explaining three simple steps in a blurry and badly narrated video, I can't help but think that just writing those simple steps down in a short list would have been so much easier for all parties.

I disagree, the author should have some say in the medium, after all they are the ones creating the content. I mean, sure there should be consideration of the audience and how they consume, but the authors create the content. If it's more convenient for an author of a guide to a dungeon or explain how to turn on my computer, wouldn't you rather have some medium rather than none?
I think the ease of creation has increased the ease of access. More information is what we need, not less. There needs to be an onus on the consumer to find the information important to them, but that doesn't necessarily mean blurry youtube videos explaining how to turn on your pc shouldn't be out there. And, honestly, to me it is much easier to find a youtube video explaining string theory than to try to find/read a paper on it.
Great source of info

The most optimal version of a build is not far enough ahead from an average player's first guess to make optimization matter.

Well, I look forward to the day this comes true in ESO. As it stands, the content requires zero skill.ThatNeonZebraAgain wrote: »Maverick827 wrote: »This game unfortunately does not have challenging enough content to really facilitate the level of theory crafting that some of us remember fondly from World of Warcraft.

Which is why it is good to showcase actual player skills, tactics, and advice for distinguishing oneself, rather than just a set of instructions to follow to reach X DPS or whatever. Being a competent player matters more in a game where there is more flexibility in roles/duties and choices, and when you also must make informed decisions about what abilities to slot.

And my DK build is in my signature.
