Roll-players are wrong and must be stopped at every opportunity.

From scaring me with their beards and sandals when I was a wee figure painter in Games Workshop, back in the day, to their purchase of real ale in pewter mugs down my local.

All these things are a travesty and must be stamped out!!1

Yh I miss all that from when I played on PC.

I do very much miss not having my character name visable and other players, instead of our console ID : (

And mainly I really want a chat box on console, it was great for RP. Nearly every weekend RP's gathered in taverns across Tamriel, and all the stories and speech bubbles made it so immersive and fun. I miss that so much on the console.

I dont get ZOS's decisions on these but I hope they make these changes.

my main guy is the least lore friendly name, rest are good'n's in my opinion, like [Swamp-Mender] the Argonian healer, [Bjorlif-Fur-Wearer] the Nord medium "Bezerker" with a flea ridden secret, i try, i don't play alts very often saddly due to how uninteresting leveling an alt can be :(

I love it when I run into an argonian with an argonion name, instead of dovahsomething. The same goes for other races. Sweetrolls and cheese for everyone!

Argonian names are not Argonian names, they are Imperial versions of Argonian names.

    Sometimes they're actually in Saxhleel.

You mean "They're actually in Jel"?

Personally I enjoy lore-conforming character names, and am often haunted by some less then thoughtful names I dished out back in the day, thinking "Ah, its just a crafting/testbed alt, I'll never RP her, might even delete and reroll if I don't like the build..."

And then... game happened. And instead of leaving these alts on the back burner, I played them. And played them some more. And keep playing them every now and then...

And keep wincing every time I see their thougtless names, wishing I had spent a -tad- more time back then.
My poor orc craftsmistress and my breton vampiress sound like they were both raised by elves... (yes, I usually only play dunmer, so that's understandable... but... after all the playing through eso, it really grates on my immersion...)

I'd rename those of mine in an instant if they had the option.

    Which might happen, someday.
    One can hope.

all my names are lore based, and yes it takes more time to name them than, reate their looks.
With all those fullbody armors and costumes its all that rly matters anyway, so its important too me.

Even my bank alts are halfway lorefriendly. I always get argonians that display what they have in inv: like "Spies-in-books" (who has all my disguises and motif books), "Has-All-the-Siege" (was recently deleted, but carried all my coldfire siege) and last is "Doesnt-Pay-For-Mods" (he has all the 200 stacks i may need lateron)

Im not much in RPing any other way, but i immensly enjoy if I see others do some RPing.
One of the best things i ever saw, was a group of 10 players. all in imperial heavy armor, same colours, standing in a line and dancing perfectly syncronised. THought first those were NPC untill i got close enough to see they were players

    I have a very tall femal Nord Warrior named Germania Europe,and she has a good background story. :}
That's all nice for RP'ers but PVP'ers could care less and if your a PVE'er - don't judge a player based only their name - you may need that good player in the next dungeon you do.

Isnt this a thread for RPers, not PvPers? So,it is just fine to talk about race oriented names.

I have a question. I'm not a big eso lore nerd but is having just one first name OK? Or do all the major characters in the Elder Scrolls universe have two names? One first name and one last name?

I made my imperial Templar with just a first name.
PAWS (Positively Against Wrip-off Stuff) - Say No to Crown Crates!

TESO needs a wardrobe system badly. Something similar to WoW's tmog system would make this game one of the best mmorpg out there!

I made my imperial Templar with just a first name.

From what I've read it partly depends on the race, since some races are more or less likely to use surnames or family names. This site is quite useful as a guide.

I doubt anybody would give you a hard time if your character decided to go by only one name though.

Naming my characters (especially the Elven ones in LotRO) sometimes takes me longer than designing what they look like.

When I see the character names of other players who have obviously attempted to fit the lore and the world they are playing in it almost always makes me smile... some of the other ones though. No sweetrolls for them! ;)
I often find myself in this very situation.

While my original character was named Saint Lucifer (heh heh heh), all of my other ESO characters have been named after Elves appearing in the Silmarillion.

My LotRO characters though... those characters take me hours to name. I like to make sure that I'm not thieving the name of a character that Tolkien has used himself. So I end up spending more time in the lexicon in the back to create an authentic name that a Vanyar, Noldor, or Teleri would actually take as a name (all dependent upon the RP that I'm running at the time.

So yes, authenticity is very much alive and well in my RP's as well; and those characters are very much alive for my wife and I. If the name doesn't fit, it doesn't get used.

Basically, Imperials, Bretons and Dunmer have "proper" surnames. Nords either have clan-names (e.g. Battleborn) or descriptive names (e.g. Long-Spear). Wood Elves SOMETIMES seem to have surnames, but usually only have one name (pretty much any Tolkien Sindarin name would do). High Elves always seem to have only one name (again, pretty much any Tolkien Silvan name would do)

I dont roleplay and I dont care about names, lore, any of that stuff....normally. Something about LOTRO makes you do that stuff without even knowing it. Somehow behind my back my dwarf minstrel starting looking up the dresses of female elves for a look see and my elf hunter stopped wearing shoes. They developed personalities while I was logged off/afk/sleeping/whatever and I absolutely loved it. That game is incredible for immersing yourself into the whole Lord of the Rings story.
