Btw, I agree. Not with the 3 hirelings, but with the rage when doing gold key. Im adding at least 1 player to ignore list every day.

I totally agree. The forced group content in craglorn and dungeons has really killed my enthusiasm for what is a really good game. I hate begging for groups and waiting around while 3 other people finally decide their bags are empty enough to proceed. And I especially hate vet dungeons, where if you don't know the fights, you feel like an idiot cuz the people willing to explain are terrible at it (oh, I forgot to mention THAT ability!) and since the vets seem to have little relation to the normal dungeon, there isn't a lot of preplanning you can do.

Let us acquire companions somehow; level up their loyalty to us (which affects how well they perform their tasks in dungeons/etc), etc. And let us set up the strategy for fights (if necessary).

I don't mind trading/chatting/etc with random people, but the grouping thing in dungeons is just the worst. Always the worst part of these MMOs.

Noone is forced to do group content. I would prefer if the normal quests and solodungeons would get harder when you do them together with a friend. But do I complain about them to be too easy? No, I just focus on the group content.
And as said before, it will be nearly impossible to create balanced hirelings for vet dungeons and even for normal dungeons.
So there is a simple solution. If you want to do group content, search people that fit to you in terms of goals, behavior and time for the game, if you don't want to do them, just ignore them.

Sounds like you're just getting unlucky. There's plenty of people willing and able to explain(*cough*me*cough*), just tell them it's your first time and you'll need advice. And yeah, there's also plenty of jerks out there NOT willing to do that, so it's better if you find a guild/friends for your first runs. Don't get too angry with the impatient ones though, it's run ~100500 for a lot of them, they have long forgotten how lost they felt their first time there;)

I'm always willing to explain and run with new people - at least as long as people are willing to learn(you'd be surprised how often it's not the case).

    Same.

If you need help, shoot me a tell/mail. If I can't be there (due to doing other things :P), at the very least I can offer advise or find you a group.
This one has an eloquent and well thought out response to tha... Ooh sweetroll!

In most cases having more options on how to complete the content is a good thing! If the NPC mercs were implemented properly this system would be great for duos or trios who need another member or two to round out the group, or for the solo player who wants the extra challenge of completing a dungeon solo but could use more bodies to drop some heals or draw some of the aggro.

However the way it's more likely to work is experienced groups would hire a merc as a handicap to increase difficulty of the dungeon for an extra challenge, because the AI on the NPCs would be so bad they're more likely to get the group wiped than to help it.
Happy All the Holidays To You and Yours!
Remembering better days of less RNG in all the things.
