Suggestion: Changing Traits on Existing Equipment

... And maybe Style too.

It can be quite disappointing to finally get a rare drop you want only to find it has a rubbish trait like Charged or Exploration. Even if ZOS does eventually fix rubbish traits, we'd still likely want to fine-tune our equipment to suit our playstyle.

The way I envision this working is a new 9 points passive (corresponding to the 9 points creation passive) for each equipment crafting skill that allows you change the trait of a piece of equipment using the appropriate trait stone and 10 repair kits. Knowledge of both the trait being changed and the trait you're changing it to is required.

The reason I suggest a 9 points passive is because being a crafter doesn't require significant investment: they're easy to level and don't need that many skill points. I myself have all six crafting skills maxed out and still have plenty of points remaining for my combat builds. Since making crafting skills harder to level isn't an option (plus too many people have maxed them all out already), increasing the skill point investment will hopefully make people specialise in different crafting skills instead being able to take them all without too much effort.

Now, this is just my personal take on how it can work. If you disagree that's fine, the real suggestion I'm making is simply to let crafters change equipment traits.

Not sure I agree with the 'how' of your suggestion, but certainly agree crafting needs changing, with more options and flexibility around traits, styles, and upgrades.
Other than a few foods, potions, and maybe glyphs there is little value in crafting beyond personal needs. It's easy to max level any craft, just follow the few steps and grind it out. And then what, occasionally make some equipment, or the aforementioned items? This is not exactly the unique and highly valued experience described in all the release hype. Crafting needs a revamp. Not sure how it fits in priority of other needs, but status quo will not do for game longevity.

Agree with @Ouroboros‌ about not liking the 9-skill point how of this, but would like some way to change styles of armor and traits.

I would say that in order to change the trait, you should need to know both the trait that you want to change and the one that you want to change it to, and it would take one of each trait stone. Similarly, to change the racial style, it would take the player knowing both styles (current and new) as well as several raw materials of the type you'd need to make it.

I understand 9 points seems excessive for this one function, I'm just trying to create a reason for more skill point dumps in crafting skills. Another thing that could be done with this new passive would be increasing the level of equipment: it would of course be a very costly process.

The passive could be called "remodelling" or whatever.

It would be nice to change out the traits. For one reason is if I make an armor set but I am missing some traits on certain pieces because I don't have all the researches done yet, I would like to be able to go back and just change the trait on that piece at a later time without having to recreate the whole item - especially if its a legendary item.

This is exactly how it should work. I agree with you 100%. It's a simple, elegant solution. Which means, of course, that it will never be implemented.
