A request for update torrents.

With this semester ending in December, I wanted to return to ESO for a month. Although I never uninstalled the game, I hadn't kept my client up-to-date with the latest version. At most I'm missing the latest update, the November update. Some time during my hiatus I was forced to download to a slower internet connection. Because I live with other people who also need to use the internet, I rarely break over 100kB/s on a busy day (though it's Thanksgiving break...). I'm in two days of downloading, and it's still at 8%.

Would it be possible to torrent major updates to the game? When seeded enough, they can greatly reduce the download time for other users so they don't have to wait as long.

Not sure how long it has been since you updated but there have been weekly patches on top of the updates. I wish they would allow torrents as well. I have a 1Gbps/1Gbps fiber connection and have no issues anywhere, except with ZOS updates. They did something within the last 1 1/2 - 2 months and lots of folks are complaining about the download speeds. I get a whopping 6kB/s on Monday patches...ugh... Not much better on the huge updates either. My ISP can't find any issues as my speed is spot on and Level3 can't find any issues so that only leaves ZOS and how they have things set to serve the updates. :(

I'm not sure if torrenting would help if the 100kB/s limit is for your connection and not just the game downloading speed.
Maybe you could try moving (for a few hours) to a place with a good connection and DL the updates. If you play on desktop, copy your game files to an external disk and update from a laptop, then copy the new game files back to your desktop. (save them first though)
Good luck with your downloads. :)

Or, if he has a Laptop, take it to a Library, which usually offer free wi-fi services that tend to be fast.

I forgot to mention that I'm on a MacBook Pro with both the Windows and Mac OS installed, and likewise I have both sides of ESO. Meaning I have to install the update twice to play on both sides.

It's 100kB/s when my connection is busy. It's around 300kB/s any other time.

That's exactly why I'm asking for a torrent. How a torrent works is that when a user completes the download, they "share" a bit of their connection speed with whomever has yet to finish downloading. That adds up, and if you have about 50 people with the completed download and the torrent opened, the download speed can go up to 1.5mB/s, regardless of what your ISP's transfer rate is.

A torrent allows for faster downloads across all ISP's. That's why they're beneficial to anyone with a slow internet connection.

You're completely wrong. Bittorrent spreads upload, so that when 1 person seeds a file and 1000 people want to download it, the seeder doesn't have to upload the file 1000 times - the other 1000 peers help with upload. Bittorrent doesn't magically circumvent natural or imposed bandwidth limits. If you have a 300kB/s download limit from your ISP, you're never going to get more. Also, ESO downloader actually uses bittorrent protocol, it just doesn't upload to others - and that's a good thing, people already complain about download sizes, what would we say if it also killed our upload limits while downloading?

So maybe a torrent isn't the best solution.

So I downloaded the Mac part of the update overnight, but I'm constantly getting a "webget request failed" error while downloading from the Windows Launcher. Is there anyway around that?

No, BitTorrent is the best solution. That is why World of Warcraft has changed to BitTorrent. But WoW uses BitTorrent behind the scene for all users. Most users don't even know that WoW uses BitTorrent.

And this is the way TESO should go as well: Use BitTorrent as the one and only way to distribute the patches.
