You can't be a one trick pony in this game. The main story boss encounters are solo only instances. You are on your own for these fights!

My advice is fine with Templar or any race/any profession/restoration staff skill line. Whatever you find fun. Once you start making bank mules, those mules might turn into characters you play anyways. LOL I never leveled multiple characters until I tried ESO. Now I have 4 "mains" and 5th may have recently been created. :P

Also, Redguards have their stamina racials. Even magicka build could use stamina for dodge rolling and break free. I would not overlook this bonus. Frees up your gear and attributes a little for other things.

I have a Khajiit Templar, he has a racial that increases the chance for a critical, which includes healing. Magicka bonuses are of course nice, but the odd critical in your healing wouldn't hurt either.

Of course I'm not saying ignore Altmer or Bretons, but please consider your friendly Khajiit too.

Practically everything in this game, except high end group content or pvp is incredibly easy. If you want to be the best possible healer, you have to be breton templar, period. Picking a redguard over this for this role is just pure nonsense.

Actually, no, the khajit bonus is *weapon crit*, so it does absolutely nothing for healing at all.

My templar healer is a Breton, I think it's one of the best choices in PvE. Magicka and cost reduction, the stuff you need. High elf is also a top choice.

But since I also PvP I would prefer a Dunmer templar healer. Those passives are superior in Cyrodiil. You need both magicka and stamina, to survive. Dunmer gives a noticeable bonus to both. The fire resists is also nice against siege and all the DK's running around.

Imperial wouldn't be a bad choice either. Not so much for PvE, but as a front-line paladin type healer in PvP.

I have three Templars (Breton, Dunmer & Imperial) and I'd say Breton for a more defensive approach, Dunmer for a more offensive/vampire approach, and Imperial for a more melee approach.

Either way, almost any race can do well having an insta-cast heal is a godsend. At higher levels racial traits are almost negligible but at lower levels you will benefit from magicka oriented racial traits (Breton/Altmer/Dunmer).

Overall Breton is best if you are new to the class.

Oh, Ok, I just though it applied to restoration staff skills, It's no big deal, he's still a great healer, and he's still my favourite character.

I chose to make an Argonian Templar because they get Restoration Expertise (+15% Restoration Staff) and Quick to Mend (2/4/6 Healing increase). Once the Restoration Staff has the Magicka Restoration Morph from "Circle of Life" it's much harder to get magicka drained.

1.Breton is probably the best race choice simply for the magicka cost reduction. (However the racial passives aren't going to make or break your toon.)

    2. Remember that Templar Healing spells are based on Max Magicka, Spell Damage, and Spell Crit while restoration healing spells are based on Max Magicka, Weapon Damage, and Spell Crit. (Resto may be changing to spell damage in an upcoming patch.)

    3. Sets like Seducer, Warlock, Arch-Mage, Magnus, and Adroitness will make your life easier as a healer as they all offer some type of magicka return/reduction. (At least until you get comfortable with resource management.)

    4. Just practice, do as many dungeons while leveling as you can. This will help you get comfortable with the heals that you like to throw.

    • Talent pure Magicka (at least at first) and if you really need some Health toss Enchanting Glyphs on your (7) armor pieces for that.
    • It helps if those (7) armor pieces are Light Armor with the passives.
    • The crafted set 'Seducer' reduces the cost of spells by 8% with 5pc.
    • Eat (Blue) Food with Magicka/Health, it's a very helpful 1 hr buff.
    • Try to keep Magicka as close to "Overcharged" as you can without Food.
    • Try to keep Magicka regen as high as you can.
    • Spell Damage (Templar, soon Resto staff abilities) is also be valuable.
    • Spell Critical is a good thing, the Mundus stone 'The Thief' gives 5%.
    • Lastly, don't worry too much about Stamina, Health/Stamina regen, Physical Crit, Spell Resistance and Armor. Those help but aren't top priority.
