At various times I have attempted to use the grouping tool both before and since Update 5. Very very rarely has it been faster than spamming Zone chat for putting a group together of any kind. With Update 5 I was really hoping it would be a little easier to find a group with it since dungeon scaling was introduced. The opposite has been the case.
While before it was difficult to find more than one player for any given dungeon at any given level, it is now seemingly totally impossible. I sat in it today as a VR1 looking for the daily Pledge normal mode for probably 2 hours and it didn't once pair me with anyone. I assume the problem is two-fold:
1) It's a nearly useless tool for reasons I don't understand causing it to be bad at matching players
2) Because of 1 people just don't use it making it even more useless.
In my mind the tool should pair you instantly with anyone available who is level appropriate and fills any of the roles you're looking for across the entire Megaserver. If that's how it works, then I don't know why people aren't using it at all,
Not to invoke the Godwin's Law of MMOs, but World of Warcraft's grouping system was almost instant if you had any one of the more rare roles already filled when looking for a group. I tank and I heal, and DPS are a dime a dozen, so I'm just baffled as to why this is still an issue.
It really shouldn't take the average player more than 20 minutes to totally fill out a 4 man PUG, and the idea that they should do so while spamming Zone chat is just awful. I really like this game, but I like it a lot more when I can play with other people, and it's just not been easy to do it even inside of very active guilds and with the tools and incentives available for grouping.
