my awesomes and lols are about equal. I try not to worry. I already know. I lol at my awesomeness, i dunno about u. Agree is pretty healthy too, but insightful sadly lags way behind. Guess I'm a party girl, not welcome at Socrates' debating forum. Meh, it'll do me. Many have.

    Will not press lol.

    Poor quality bait.

I made this poll out of a genuine interest on seeing the consensus. I know some people said "dead horse" but... has there really already been such a poll? Didn't see it. And who would ever want to bait for "lols"? Is there any benefit?

I've found the discussion and votes to be very interesting myself. I often hesitate to click LOL to on a post for fear of making the poster think I found his post amusing.

Considering the fiasco with these buttons since beta and the way most people seem to be using them around here, I opted a long time back to click "awesome" whenever I find something is genuinely funny and makes me laugh. I don't use "lol" anymore for anything. If I disagree I either don't bother to engage if it is too silly, or I just post my view if I feel strongly about it.

So, by a majority vote of 56% to a paltry 44%, it has been decreed that "LOL" may be used on these forums to ridicule or indicate disagreement with a post.

    The matter is settled!

    For me,

    "Awesome" - indicates amusement

    "LOL" - indicates disagreement

So "LOL" should not just also be used to ridicule or show disagreement with a comment, but should only be used for such.

You know how disagreement is indicated in mature discussions? You actually explain your points of disagreement, instead of clicking a box. I don't know if it's the social media generation, but people need to stop being so lazy about debate.

Disagree with me? Fine. Unless you're going to actually make a point, then your disagreement is irrelevant.
    LOL

    There, I made my point.

Hmm, well you could also look at it the other way around: if you receive a LOL, how do you interpret it?

Personally, I always interpret it as a compliment!

And well you should! After all, it does stand for Lauding Out Loud. Am I right? Of course I am, lol.

The point that some people are finding contention with is that they don't know if they are being lol'd at or lol'd with. It makes no difference in the end though. No one in real life is going to care if you lol'd at somebody on the internet or were lol'd at.
