@abigfishy‌ - here's a happy thought for you: ESO is still a very young, very flexible, game. The very things that are causing us some pain now - the fact that a patch contained changes which caused one or another thing to 'break' - is actually a sign that the game itself is going to be able to continue evolving along with us.

Now quick, open up the map and go to "Tamriel." You see what I see, man? I see untold acres of blank space...a.k.a., "room for future growth."

I'm sure there will be growing pains along the way. I'm also sure that these will become less and less painful over time - the dev team is maturing along with the game, getting better and better at integrating their new genius into the existing without causing the old genius to rear back and upset the apple carts.

It'll be OK. It's still a great game, with a lot of fun stuff to do now, and a lot of potential for the future.

    See you online. :)

    @abigfishy‌

The one thing to keep in mind is that this game is being actively developed, and being developed in a rapid development environment. We don't have to wait months, or years, for new content. We get something new every 6 weeks or so. This game is so different now than it was at launch.

A side effect of this is that we do get things more unpolished than some people might like. Some people think that we are beta testers, and on some levels they could not be more correct. This is not a bad thing, it is quite the opposite of that. We have a tremendous amount of say in what they do simply by how we play the game and what we say about it. Unfinished means open to refinement.

When you remove the fear of change, which is quite common in the forum and a very natural response, and get down to the real nuts and bolts, a lot of people in the forum have really solid ideas. Zenimax has picked up on these and incorporated some them into the active game. Do they do everything people suggest? No, of course not.

So, yeah, they might break this or that. Skills may not work now, but they will, eventually. We get to see balance tuning in action with nerfs and buffs that can seem confusing or just plain wrong. There are things that are not fully implemented and are not as usable as they could be.

The thing to really keep in mind, whether you agree with the changes or not, whether you believe me or not, is that this game is being actively developed by a team of developers that appear to be engaged. They do not drop stuff on us and walk off. They study what they did, they listen to the comments, then tweak it, change it, and revise it over time. This is the magic fairy dust that will ensure that ESO remains a success.

As far as development goes, if they have one fault above all others, it is that they have more ambitious ideas than they have resources to pull it all off in a timely manner. They do manage to pull of a lot of stuff every 6 weeks, just not everything they want, and not everything the players want. Once that is understood, and accepted, it is much easier to be content with what they do deliver. They are interested in making it better.

The reduced xp is confirmed as an bug, VR leveling was supposed to be faster than before, this will be fixed soon, probably next update.

Actually, you should go read GinaBruno lastest announcement, it's mostly NOT a bug lol. The long questchains have capped XP which is a bug, the overall reduced XP and increased time to level is not.

Just do what I'm doing and take a break from the game until they get their act together. Sometimes when you are feeling burnt out, a break is a good thing so you don't ruin the game for yourself. My 6 month sub couldn't have ended at a better time. I enjoyed the journey, but am out of things to do now. I'm playing other games, and hopefully when I come back to ESO next year it will feel fresh again and there will be new content out (all the daily things in update 5 aren't new, it's just doing things we've done a 100 times already). I'm also not a fan of the new vet dungeons, just taking old dungeons and adding new enemies. The new NPC facial animation? Won't ever see those since I already beat all the quests. Chat bubbles are a quality of life thing that should have been there from the start.

I'm looking forward to the Justice system and new Guilds, new zones to explore (this is a big one), optional instance scaling (hopefully), player housing, and the ability to turn off fog (I have been using a mod that turns off fog and the game looks so much better, I just can't play the game with fog now. I don't know why there isn't an in game option. If that mod ever lost support, I would have to permanently quit the game). Anyways, ESO has a lot of potential, use that to cheer you up.

I love ESO. Love, love, love. I have characters in USA and Europe. I have a second account with more characters. I try to play every day. I am not threatening to quit. I am not calling out the devs. I am not raging. I want to continue my love of ESO.

But Update 5 has left me feeling horrible about the game.

I now get almost no XP for anything making going up even a single level looking like a massive task.

    Dungeon scaling is a nightmare.

I can no longer out level solo instances to actually beat them.

Completing group dungeons seems to be close to impossible for casuals who work in pugs like me.

I was really excited about Undaunted Pledges but with impossible dungeons and horrible rewards what is the point?

I was really excited about crafting pledges but all I am doing is getting the pledge, going to the bank, buying some materials, crafting some random stuff, handing it in and getting a repair kit as the reward. Where is the fun and thrill in that?

My addons don't work anymore. Yes this is probably an unfair complaint.

Some of my favourite skills got nerfed. A you were a vampire, light robe and staff user right? Wrong. Two handed and heavy armour. Was that really dominating the game so much it needed to be nerfed? Why would they make the weakest weaker?

I was excited about the new style until I spent 2 hours trying to find some and got a total of 1 scrap - I hear you can get about 1 an hour if you are really good, Takes 10 to make 1 frame. Will need 9-11 frames to make a set of equipment meaning you need to do 90-110 hours of mindless grinding to get 1 set of equipment. Serious? The motif books are supposed to be something like 1 page for 4 hours of looking in jugs. There are 34 different pieces of equipment. So something like 136 hours of BORING looking in pots and jugs to learn this. Seriously????

I am at the point where I am looking at youtube videos of other MMOs. I do not want to leave ESO. I was having a ball playing ESO. I wish update 5 was just a bad dream and it never existed but sadly it is real.

I want to be positive. I want to have a reason to log on. I haven't even bothered downloading the EU update I am so depressed at the state of the game. So I am begging can people please tell me something positive about this patch that gives me a reason to log on and play?

Sounds like majority of the complaints you have are about how difficult the game is whether it's dungeons or trying to get mats. Although this may be your reason to not be "happy", you're kind of the glass is half empty guy. Instead of focusing on what you find negative, realize the positive. Such as the fact, that is crafting writs in the first place, which by the way some of them are awesome, like the blacksmithing one (getting a whole bunch of nirncrux for the survey). Or the fact that dungeon difficulty made the game more challenging, and no longer face-rolling (although perhaps it should be toned down just a little). Or the fact that dungeon scaling now allows you to complete any dungeon at any level, rather than trying to squeeze it in when you're only level 16 for let's say BC, or having to wait until you're a veteran. In fact, I'd find this to be more appealing to the casuals, as this allows the ability of when to complete a dungeon to be more flexible.

    The positives:

My horse can jump over pebbles.
    FWCs are gone.
    Stamina got some nice boosts.
    WW is finally playable.
    NPC facial animations are awesome.

Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.
Werewolf is not equal to Vamps/Bats.

Update 8 will come out to mixed reviews. Most players will say Update 7 was the best ESO had to offer. ZOS will try to fix it by releasing Update 8.1 to improve it, but the stigma will remain. They'll skip Update 9 and go right to 10 to try to win back players' hearts.

Actually, that's why I don't have a TV anymore for over 4 years now, too much unnecessary stress.

    And, you're right.

I mean, I do have certain bugs in the game which make me getting beyond crazy, but the forums would look very different if f.e. each class would have their own sub-forum.
Then we could focus straight on the handful of bugs in each class instead of seeing all at once, and multiple posts about the same topic would be reduced automatically, so the overview would be even better. We wouldn't even know about the other classes' problems, at least not unwillingly.
