I also found it in the zone before Coldharbour (in my case The Rift), but it's not as frequent. Even in Coldharbour I didn't find anywhere where it was common in the same way that earlier clothing mats are sometimes in other zones (like cotton in Eastmarch) but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.
Bangkorai in any area sporting L40 Critters has mixtures of Ebonthread and Spidersilk. You're just relying on the ESORNG to be nice to you with regard to plant instances.
Oooh look, lot's of Butterflies! Wait! Butterflies? Get out of here Sheo, stop bugging me!

You can find Ebonthread plants in Cold Harbour and the zone just before Cold Harbour (Bangkorai, eastmarch, and reapers march), but it's much more common in Cold Harbour.

I have stacks and stacks of Ebonthread from farming the zombies at the Vile Lab. They drop L46 items, so a lot of Ebonthread Light Armor. You can fill up your bag in 20 minutes and then go deconstruct.
Note, if your going to do this, don't walk onto that road unless you have about 60 to 80 slots open in your inventory, otherwise your going to be filling your bag in about 5 minutes.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
