Guild Chat - DISPLAY CHARACTERS NAME

Why in the hell did you devs decide to have guildchat display your LOGIN NAME? Because thats how we identify people in our Elder *** Adventures right?

It makes social connection UNBELIEVABLY RIDICULOUS and confusing....

Make this change ASAP, OR ALLOW OPTION for user to toggle displaying CHARACTER NAME vs. LOGIN

Agree. I use an addon to display both and it comes in major handy when meeting a guildie somewhere that I'm not used to interacting with.

Guilds are for the player, not the character, that is why they did that.

Agree on this. But also agree that there should be an option in Social to show character name as well or instead. Options are good.

I agree guilds are for the player, but why draw the parallel with your LOGIN name as a universal identity? Majority of people's login name is not a social identifier. It's a word/verb/noun,etc.. that is easy to remember...

Right! Because display names are so much more a priority than fixing known issues that actually affect game progression! Geez!

I use pNames only because of some features(like time), and I don't care about names (maybe just a little) and I had the same thoughts, but in guild if someone plays different characters, it's easier to recognize him/her by account name. So, someone like standart UI, someone not, this is why ZOS allow us to use addons (change your UI as you like ).

I prefer the Guild to show the account name, and I'd love other games to do so aswell. I hate to have to invite all my alts in my WOW guild and having to check the guild notes to see who the hell is talking in the guild chat.

Using CAPS LOCK does not make your point any more valid. As another poster noted, guilds are for your account and not your character.

While it may be ideal, it could be equally ridiculous if it was done the other way e.g. if people log to alt's you would struggle to find them or even know who they are when talking in guild chat.

I would like there to be an option, as in addons, to have the following:

@handle (char name): message

I tend to get to know handles more often than character names, but I guess that is just from being in quite active guilds and speaking to certain people a lot more regularly.

Agree. Don't see why this isn't the default. It's very simple and would be very useful.

Considering the vastly disproportionate ratio of web services that do exactly that... even if it's not "right," it's certainly the norm.

Besides, your username is a relatively small portion of the information needed to secure one's account. You have the password, of course. Then you have the hardware/IP verification, which in turn relies on the email address. And even if all of this is compromised, you still have the payment credentials with which to dispute malicious activity. It's a fairly minor thing.

All of that said, I would like something like [Character Name]@[Account] to see which characters my friends/guildmates are on while still being able to easily keep track of who's who when I see a name I don't recognize.

In the real world where your claim to an identity (username \ handle) is public information and your authentication \ authN is the confidential information.

You should be careful about going off half cocked, especially on this forum. There are quite a number of adults here who are also working professionals, and understand these issues better than you.
