Delays while receiving in-game mail (Guild Store and other)

Hey guys,

Whenever I buy an item from the Guild Store at the bank, it doesn't show up in my mailbox until I log off and back on. It has been this way since beta for me, but I can't say I've ever brought it up or heard it mentioned as an issue.

Is this a known bug of some kind, or is there something I'm missing about the Guild Store functionality that explains it?

Thanks.

I get round it by travelling to a different zone, 2 seconds after arrival the mail hits, bit of a pain but a workaround anyhoo.

I've also noticed that if I receive my hireling mail in any particular zone I won't receive any more mails till I travel to another zone.

Most of the time, my purchases show up in moments after I close the barter window. One time I changed zones, but that was because I closed the window at the kiosk and then went right to the wayshrine to go where I needed to go, not because I was waiting for the mail to show up. The longest I have ever had to wait is about 10 minutes, but that could have been related to below:

One thing I have noticed is I sometimes don't see the indicator that I have an email until I open the email screen, then it shows up with the ding. Have you tried opening the email screen after a couple of minutes?

Yep that works unless I've already received mail in a zone, opening the mail screen doesn't bring the mail in, still gotta travel.

Nope, frequently does not work, relog or change zone seem to be the only reliable way to get mail, this is another of those things ZOS need to fix, but probably never will!

Okay, well good to know I'm not the only one seeing this.

Sounds like maybe it's just delayed and I'm not waiting long enough. Not sure how long I've waited, but I'm just in the habit now of quickly logging off and back on which works right away.

I've never had it appear after closing the bank window, or interacting with a merchant and then closing that. I'll try waiting longer next time, or changing zones to see if that helps.

@ZoS can we get any more details on this please - is it working as intended, how long of a delay should there be, etc?

It used to happen all the time. It seems to be better now but sometimes yes you still have to do a reload UI. It used to take me about 10 minutes to get my mail. Now sometimes it arrives instantly and sometimes it takes a relog. Don't know if its server under stress or what.

Do you notice delays when receiving regular mail, or only when waiting for something bought from the Guild Store?

I've not noticed any issues with regular mail, just Guild Store stuff.

Both. It used to take 10 relogs to get regular mail now that is instant. Buying stuff used to take up to 30 minutes and require a full shutdown. Now sometimes I get it instantly and sometimes it takes a few minutes or a relog. It's really random though.

Gotcha. So it seems this affects receiving mail overall, not just Guild Store items. I guess it's just an overall issue with the mail system as it is now. Hopefully it'll be improved over time.

I think it has to do with server check and mail is probably a low priority on the list so it's the last thing the server checks. But I always see tons of people in banks meaning people probably are using the guild stores or return to sender mail for extra room.
So you have all those people sending, buying, and selling meanwhile it being low priority on the server check is probably causing the delay. More people online means longer delays.

Odd that it affects different users differently.

If I travel to a zone, buy something from a guild trader and then open the mail screen the mail will hit, if I then (in the same zone) buy something else from a guild trader and open the mail screen I get nada and have to travel to another zone before that mail will hit.

It ain't a game breaker obviously but it is a nuisance when you've bought crafting mats and want to head to a particular crafting station in that zone.

Yeah exactly. It's not a huge issue but it can be pretty annoying. I'm just surprised it hasn't been improved yet, though I doubt it's a high priority.

I see this based on the time stamp from the email. With friends who email me, I get the ding, then the email says received 10 minutes or 16 minutes ago. Usually this is not an issue, but the other night I was parked at the crafting station waiting to be told what they wanted me to make and some mats they were going to send me. I probably should have tried to open the email screen to see if it was there.

So, the delay is in part due to the indicator not telling you that you have an email until some time after it is in your mail box.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Hi everyone. We value your feedback and will be looking into this issue. For the players that this is affecting please try the following steps:

    1. Type /reloadui in the Chat Box to reset your UI
    2. Open your map by pressing [M], then teleport yourself to a wayshrine
    3. Perform a soft reset: log out to your desktop, exit the ESO launcher, and wait for 15 minutes before logging back in.

If the issue persists, please reach out to our Customer Support Team.

Sure it works. Simply relog or travel to another zone solve this issue(at least for me). I need to relog every time I want get purchased item. The question is why mail system doesn't work without this steps?

These steps definitely do work, but as mentioned above we're all a bit more curious as to why it is necessary to perform these steps in order to get things going. As long as you guys are aware of the issue and looking into it, that's great.

Should we be submitting feedback or a bug report in game each time this happens to help with tracking the issue?

Why bother responding at all if you're just going to reiterate what we are already doing and not address whether ZOS has any plan to correct this. Less than useless, it's somewhat insulting.

    ROFLMAO @ZOS_AlvinM

Tell CS we are way past trying these jokes
/reloadui - not almost all the time
moving within zone to another wayshrine - never
Who in their right mind thinks logging out for 15-20mins is an acceptable solution to ANY issue???

The whole "buying from a guild store" system needs to be reworked. Sending guild store purchases via email looks like a really kludgy solution that was added at the last minute after the developers realized that they couldn't easily interface the guild store code with the existing merchant UI . It needs to be reworked so that buying from a guild store is no different from buying from any other merchant (item appears in your inventory immediately).

There are also others mechanisms on the server side that are not working well, such as the guild bank and store systems, the hirelings email delivery, etc.

You should understand that these mechanisms have maximum visibility in the game because everybody is using them. And it creates the perception that the game is not stable and that you people are focused somewhere else instead of fixing the problems.

I wish we could have a sign for delivery mail system added. If someone wants to buy something from me and have it CoD, I should be able to send them a mail with what is "going" to be delivered without actually sending the product. They can sign for it which would be a yes they want it and therefor no way to return it, stiffing me out of payment and/or holding the product for a day before returning without pay.

I haven't had much need to sell CoD lately because of the awesome kiosk system but if I did, this would be an awesome way to be sure they want it and will pay for it.

Here are the positives to this. You can buy something and not have to worry about your bag being full. You can also use a richer alt to buy for another one and not have to use the bank as an intermediary. The other issue is, you can put up to 30 items in each Guild Store, and be in 5 guilds, so that is 150 items. Once the 30 days is up, then the item is returned to you, so this way you don't get your bag filled up by canceled or timed out items.

So, it's a decent system in that it does not cause some other issues. I understand that some other MMO's do the email thing too.

It's just that for some folks the emails are slow.

Our inboxes have a fairly small limit, though. But I agree, receiving by mail is the most common and probably best solution...the issue is with the wonkiness in the current system.
