Instead of stupid tokens they should make it into a nickname system. So like you have your name but after a certain point or after a quest or something you earn a "Nickname" which allows you to change your name. That would be wicked.

YES- AND character names from inactive accounts should be reset after several months thus freeing up the name choice for the community. I mean why should a player that's not even playing anymore own the name.

If they come back and resub they'd have to rename their toon.

Um, you are aware that people don't choose their nicknames, they are given by other people. So to make it realistic you would need some sort of system where the game generates a nickname for you.

Not against it, just saying what's needed for a nickname.

Also not against some method for renaming a character, I would add a surname to some of mine.

It was more of an Idea than just having a token that changes your name. A token doesn't make sense but having a nickname kind of does. But if you remember in Fable you got nicknames but you picked what it was. Although they where pre rendered nicknames because of the voice acting and stuff. Just a different idea to tokens. Also a token would take up bank space a system wouldn't.

Ah right, well I would make it more of a service via a specialised vendor/npc myself, you visit the special NPC, pay the fee, and choose a new name.

I have to admit I am completely opposed to the idea of name changes in MMOs. Your reputation as a player should follow a person around from day one onward and simply being able to change your name I feel is a mistake.

    Token?

Well... what I'd wish to see is a more "in-character" solution to this. What about a Covenant/Dominion/Pact bureaucrat in your fractions capital who for a small bag full of crowns will change your characters name in their records...?

But out of character tokens or such would be fine too. As long as I get to change the one alt whose name I am dissatisfied with...

(and the reputation as a player is tied to your account name anyhow...)

As for nicknames... those are more likely something foe extra titles, I would think. It -would- be neat to have something along those lines added to the game of course... unlocked by achievements and so on, choosen like the titles, but on a seperate slot, and added after your character name...

100% agree. This game is long over due for this! Be it part of the crown store, flat out 5$, or sacrificing our first born children. We're ready for this to be added.

I've always thought that the banker should have a "change name" option that charges you an amount of gold. They could have some cute dialogue like, "For 150 gold I can process the documents to legally change your name. Now don't think this will save you if you are on the lam as all name changes are reported to the authorities!"

Then maybe you can get a more expensive name change that also clears any bounty you may have in the Outlaws Refuge! LOL

I agree with this - mainly because of the bad apples who would go round doing a bunch of dodgy trades and guild bank robbing and then just change name/appearance once everyone knew they were *%$*&ers and do it again - even the @name is changeable by request to ZOS already so that is no guarantee of identity.

I appreciate that people are not always going to be happy with the name/looks they have chosen but I think the real answer to this would lie with an final chance to tweak character choices on the way out of Cold Harbour (much as the offline version do) rather than being able to change them at a whim.

Hey, that's a good, solid imperial name... for any random fifth son, I guess.
Still better then Biggu... uhm... a famous imperial name I probably shouldn't mention on those forums.;)

On a more serious note... yeah, a lot of people really want this, people who spent less thought then they ought to have on naming their characters, usually because "It's just a crafting alt anyways", or "fer da lulz", and after playing a good while got into the lore, and then found it grating how their characters name had all the NPCs make fun of them behind their backs...

And now really, really want to legally change their name, even if it takes a bit of crowns to "grease the resistrators palms"...

And yeah, I have two characters like that as well. Orc and Breton, and I thoughlessly used some of my "standard character names", not considering that I usually only play dunmer, so now they sound like they were raised in an elvish orphanage ort something... and I much rather would have "orky" and "bretonish" sounding names for 'em...
