Lag

HarieMossfruit
I'm getting horrible lag spikes even though my PC passes recommended specs.

Specs:CPU: Amd Fx 8350

Gpu:Nvidia gtx 770 2gb

Ram:8gb
Is there anyway to fix this, because I really want to enjoy the game. And it also seems like if I just sit there and not do anything in the game my fos increases to 60fps, but as soon as I move it starts lagging horribly.

    Hey there @HarieMossfruit,

    Lag is a term in tech support that can take on quite a few meanings, so prior to troubleshooting with you we'd like to make sure we have a proper understanding of the issue. By lag, do you mean:

    1. A dip in your frames per second performance, or;

    2. A network connectivity issue (I press a button/click and it takes multiple seconds for the action to actually occur on screen).

    Once we have a better grasp on the issue, we'll be happy to assist you in any way that we can!

    I mean dips in frames per second. Sorry I didn't specify it to begin with. But if I stand around and do not move my character I get like 60-70fps. And this is on every graphics setting, it's not like I just set it on ultra and have never tried to lower the graphics.

    @ZOS_GaryA‌ are you there?

    Hey everyone,

    We worked with @HarieMossfruit‌ in a private message and they experienced success with the steps that we ran. We wanted to be sure that they were posted in this thread just in case anyone else is noticing drops in their FPS performance. Here's what we did:

    First, while you're in the game head to the video settings. There are two new sliders in the Video settings, one for Maximum Particle Systems and one for Particle Suppression Distance. If you slide those down a bit, you should notice a pretty significant increase in performance.

    There are also a few settings in the Usersettings.txt file that you can change to improve your performance. As with any settings document, please ensure that you create a backup of the original in an alternate location prior to altering the file. This will allow you to replace the altered file with one that works should something go awry.

    Please close ESO first, then open the Usersettings.txt document and edit the following lines. This file is located at Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\Live.

    Change:
    SET GPUSmoothingFrames "10"
    To:
    SET GPUSmoothingFrames "3"

    Change:
    SET PreferExclusiveFullscreen "0"
    To:
    SET PreferExclusiveFullscreen "1"

    Find this section and Change:

    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "-1"
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "-1"
    To:
    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "0"
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "0"

    If these steps aren't helpful, please let us know and we'll be happy to continue assisting!
