ESO Kills my router now?

So i have been playing, for the most part, since beta & early access with no problems. Still using the same hardware now as i was 6 months ago. I took a break and have been back for a few days and then all of a sudden my router started giving out after about 5 mins of being in the game. I close out the game, my router comes back on, and I go back in, 5 mins later same thing. Its a wireless router, but this comp is wired in. I did a dns flush, power cycle, restarted everything multiple times etc etc...nothing worked. After a frustrating hour of looking for answers i gave up and just plugged my machine straight into the modem, and everything was fine. FPS was still normal (80-100) no lag, no drops/disconnects, everything went back to normal.

Also want to note, I spent about 30 mins, still going through my router, surfing the internet, watching videos, and no issues with the router.

So any ideas on what it might be that is killing my router?

First off, what do you mean by 'giving out?' Power cycles? Stops receiving/transmitting?

What you are describing is most likely coincidence. The router is at least a 6 months old, and contrary to popular belief, all router brands are not created equally.

Since you are (were) hardlined, the wireless does not come into play. However, I assume you do have security set up so no one is accessing the router directly for miscellaneous reasons. You've changed the default router login/password too, I hope.

I'm equally assuming you have no special set up - ports forwarded, etc.

That being said, eso.exe does not use massive amounts of bandwidth, so the odds that your router is overheating, etc due to processing large amount of data is unlikely.

Does it get excessively hot? Have you logged into the router to look at the logs? Have you tried to do a factory reset (different than a power cycle)?

Need more info to be of greater assistance.

If you do end up replacing the router, I recommend Linksys. They're a subcompany of Cisco and usually build solid hardware with lots of features.

Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

Def sounds like a router problem there's a lot of data flowing in and out when you play the game so it's likely that the router is giving out.

Pretty common with wireless routers, def not ESO's fault.

I saw an article about Belkin routers having some problems when i was looking for some information for work. I think it was a security issue not really sure though. If i remember correctly is was on bia.gov's website. I didn't open it because it didn't really relate to my searches. Sorry i can't be more help.

There is a known problem that started today with Belkin routers (some models only) receiving a faulty firmware update.

Pls plug your computer direct to your modem -- if you need to - and go to the Belkin web site for more information.

I believe the fix involves forcing DNS in the modem GUI.
