If you are interested in some of the details of the Champion System, be sure to listen to the audio recording of the
Champion System Portion of the ESO Guild Summit 2014.
In order to help keep players together, the Champion System will include a “Resting XP” mechanic known as Enlightenment. Here are the bullet points:
- Boosts the XP earned towards Champion Points
- You are eligible for Enlightenment as long as your account has at least one 50+ character
- Enlightenment is account-wide. If you use Enlightenment on one character, it is used for all characters.
- Enlightenment is earned on a time interval. ZOS is currently using every 10 minutes.
- Enlightenment should be thought of as an XP reservoir
- Enlightenment is earned whenever you aren’t playing a level 50+ character
- The Enlightenment pool is capped. ZOS is currently capping it at “the full cost of a Champion Point”.
- Enlightenment is only used when you’re gaining experience.
Let’s expand upon some of the finer points. Enlightenment is basically an XP reservoir. As long as you have at least one 50+ character on your account, you will earn Enlightenment on your account whenever you aren’t playing a level 50+ character. That last part is an important subtlety. You earn Enlightenment when you aren’t playing at all AND when you are playing an Alt that is under level 50! This continues the theme of the Champion System being account wide and not punishing altaholics.
When you meet those conditions, ZOS is currently adding Enlightenment to your account on a time interval of 10 minutes. They are playing with exactly how much Enlightenment your account will get on each tick. Enlightenment will continue to get added to the Enlightenment pool until it is full. ZOS is still experimenting with how big that pool should be, but seems to be leaning towards “as much Enlightenment as a Champion Point will cost”.
When you are playing a level 50+ character, you will begin to use up your enlightenment pool but only when you are gaining experience. This is an important point. This means if you login to hang out, role-play, fish or craft your Enlightenment pool is not being consumed. This is way better than some kind of mechanic that boosts your XP on some kind of timer upon login. Play how you want and your Enlightenment isn’t wasted. There was no detail on exactly how the Enlightenment Pool gets depleted.
Enlightenment is account based. If you use all the Enlightenment on one character, it is gone for all characters.
