Sorry to say it but if a race cannot be placed in one of the three allainces, then it will not work for those that purchased the standard version of the game that does not allow you to play any race in any allaince. If they brought out any new races, they would have to be a part of an alliance or allow everyone to create any race in any allaince.

Or just allow you to put that one race in any alliance. It could be coded that way, but I will acknowledge it was something most of us overlooked.

I'm fine with you playing a Sload, as long as your run speed is 1/10th my crawl speed... fully loaded with gear. They're Jabba the Hutt. I actually like seeing all the odd races, good or bad ones, but I don't see the need to have them playable. I've always for instance thought the Rieklings were cool, but TES games have done a good job leaving things mysterious and unanswered. What exactly did happen to the Dwemer? Are Ogres, Giants, and Goblins intelligent? Semi-intelligent? I for one like the mystery, and it stays more mysterious if everyone can't be one. The Dwemer are cool and interesting, but even more so because you CAN'T be one and they're all gone.

You know what, its an mmo and I think they should add new racse despite what some of yu think. It wouldnt hurt anyone, and it gives people more options. What are you gonna say if they make akavir a whole new continent and those extinct race reappear and survived there. All they have to do is write background has to what happened.

Lore is just stories and myths and written by other race in thier own accounts.

    Change is a good thing.

Um, your definition of Lore is wrong.

The lore is what has happened in the games, definitive historical events (not the accounts, but what actualy happened) and known races/vreatures.

Just because something is written down in a book doesn't make it part of the lore, multiple books from different races would just about qualify, but not as hard lore.

Oh, and change is just change, good and bad can be applied to it, but change for change is just change.

I knew before I clicked that it'd be Lilmothiit :P

I figured it'd be one of the Akaviri races. You win.

Has anyone wandered why Bethesda have chosen to ignore all these races for all of their TES games?

Now it is TES newbies ZOS in charge everyone thinks the door is open for anything.

    Just leave it, please...

Well Bethesda TES games are set in the future in the time line.
    ESO goes back in time.
So where these races in TES are referenced to exist X years ago, but not now, makes it perfectly logical to have new races that would've been relevant to the time period of ESO.

In a way, by not having the races that should exist in this time period, ESO is breaking the lore of the other TES games....

I think it’s kind of early to be talking about expansion beyond Tamriel. I’ve wanted to talk about such things but have refrained because it’s so early in the games life and I think traveling outside of Tamriel should be 5 years or so out.

There are SO many more things that should be taken care of before we see other lands and other races. Like fleshing out ESO’s calendar by having logical holidays and festivals within ESO based on the established lore.

BUT…. Since it was brought up I’d love to join the discussion!!!

I 100% support there being other races in ESO. Hopefully, over time, all of Nirn will be available in ESO. A couple of thoughts on ways to implement this.
    1. The playability of a race that is introduced through an update should be unlockable through quest lines.
    2. If a for-pay expansion is released that opens the other continents on Nirn, it should come with at least one out-of-the-box playable race. The other playable races of the continent could be released through the previously suggested completion of quest lines and updates.
    3. Create factions that are not associated with the Alliance War. The Alliance War was a GREAT place to start ESO but there are stories and histories that have nothing to do with the Alliance War that can be told in ESO. If an unassociated player partakes in the faction war they could do so as a mercenary.
    4. The playability of a race that should have a low population on Nirn should come with hefty prerequisites. This would keep the populations of that race very low. EXAMPLE: IF they were to bring Dwemer in as a playable race in a few years (I’m NOT suggesting this, I’m only using it as an EXTREME example of how the prerequisite system could work) they could require a player:
      • Complete the entirety of the Dwemer quest line.
      • Have one character of each of the 3 factions past VR10 rank.
      • Earn EVERY available achievement.
      • Own the Imperial Edition of ESO.
      • Been a subscribed member of ESO for 2 consecutive years.
      • Have previously earned Emperorship.
There would be VERY few people that would fall within these types of stringent guidelines, which would preserve the lore by keeping that playable race with a very low population. AGAINthis is JUST an example of the way such a system might be implemented. I’m not suggesting we be able to play as Dwemer.

Also, keep in mind, there may be continents on Nirn that we have never heard of. Pretty much ANYTHING can be game. If the consistency of lore is a concern with this it could simply be said “and we never heard from those adventurers again.” And not allow us to return to Tamriel once we venture beyond a certain point with those characters we choose to take to the new lands.

At any rate, I think we are getting ahead of ourselves… There is SO much more of Tamriel to explore and at this rate it’ll be YEARS before we see all of it.

Some races won't be introduced for setting concept reasons (IE: the Dwemer, because their whole shtick is that they're gone).

Many could be. They haven't been in the single-player games both for art budget reasons (adding more races is a lot of work) and because those games have focused on the races that hold major territories and/or political influence. The lilmothiit, imga, ayleids post-1st era, etc, don't. Likewise, they've stuck to Tamrielic races as playable ones - no dremora, no Akaviri races, etc.

Now, ESO could decide to forge a different path there if there was enough reason to do so, but in all likelihood, the set we see is there because they've come to be expected as the setting standard - producing TESO and leaving any of them out would have provoked an uproar. Since they're the ones that hold notable territories, they also have a good reason to be part of the war - if a few lilmothiit are running around Argonia at this point, they probably don't care all that much about the fighting between the alliances.

On the other hand, there are enough options out there to potentially add them, and it wouldn't even be necessary to break the alliance structure to make it happen. Throw in one lore-appropriate 'minor' race for each faction and there you go.

I wouldn't exactly mind this, but I'd really rather that Zen focus on getting the current stuff working first.

Well, while we're on the topic of extinct races, I think I've seen in various tomes in ESO and Skyrim that:

    1. It's believed that an avian-like humanoid race inhabited Cyrodiil during the earliest years of the Merethic Era, when the Altmer were just beginning to explore Tamriel. This avian race was rarely glimpsed, though, and thought to have been driven into extinction by the Khajiiti ancestors.

    2. Early Altmer explorers in Tamriel were supposed to have also encountered an Orc-like race.

    3. It's thought that a race of Men once inhabited Akavir, but were driven into extinction by the other races of Akavir, in particular the "snake men." By the same token, isn't there also supposed to be a monkey-like humanoid species that still exists in Akavir alongside the "snake men"?

Akavir is said to have four races (excluding dragons): Ka'Po'Tun (Tiger folk, assumed to be related to the Khajiit by many), Kamal (snow deamons), Tang Mo (monkey-people) and Tsaesci (vampiric serpents). The Tsaesci are said to have "eaten" the Men on Akavir.

Not quite, the lore is determined by a timeline they have, certain events happened, but the small details are not definite.

For example the book "The Snow Prince", The Falmer Prince existed, and he die in the battle described, that's lore, but the description of the battle in the book isn't.

this is the next best thing to full werewolf rp so I'll put a nice wall of text here. >:)
the limothiit are a race in the that's never been in a elder scrolls game that I'm aware of but i think that it would be a great Addison to this game because for one thing we have never seen one in game. two the teso team did wolf's so well i have no doubt that they would do a stunning job with the graphics and textures. three it would add a lot more intermission to this game being that a limothiit race would include some new fox like emotes a and some race perks bonus sneak like what the kajiit
a boost resist disease because they used to live in the black marsh
    keen: 5%-1% boost attack speed
robust like the one kajjits have
And some caravans that travel around form town to town, and more. yes i know that i'm asking for a lot here but it's well worth it.
I'd love to be able to play a Lilmothiit. They are indeed an established race in ESO lore, and would fit perfectly in with ESO. Supposedly they went extinct around this time period, or just went into hiding, but the lore is contradictory on this point.
    i couldn't agree more.
