What the hell else are you spending money on? Good god, the things people complain about....what, it should be free? You should be able to change daily? Hourly? Why? Where's the challenge to build your character step by step? Get over the entitlement and play the frakking game.

You can build a character in some pretty exotic ways but knowing that if you end up not liking the result you'll have to spend a ton of gold to try out your next idea really stifles creativity and experimentation. Which absolutely results in cookie-cutter builds. Having to attain a ton of gold in order to respec does NOT give me a sense of accomplishment, it is merely a barrier that keeps me from exploring one of the most interesting aspects of this game.

I figure ZOS figures the game will keep your interest longer if your choices are more significant, including making your spec more significant by making it not free to change. Nothing controversial in them thinking that, even if not all folks agree with it.MornaBaine wrote: »What the hell else are you spending money on? Actually....why not? I'm trying to figure out the logic behind trying to KEEP people FROM respeccing. Why does ZoS care if you respec? What does doing so hurt? Will too many people respeccing all at once crash the server? Seriously, what's the rationale? I'm personally not one of those people who wants to respec 20 times a week but even if I were....I'm trying to figure out how is that a bad thing?

Yeah, i agree. Look, the price of re-spec is a part of providing challenge and sense of accomplishment in the game. I get that not everybody wants the same level of challenge, or that some people don't want any challenge at all. I just don't like a game that has no challenge or reward. i think the respec price is just right: not too expensive to accomplish, not so cheap that my character build has little sense of accomplishment.

And I think a lot of us make more interesting choices: we build whatever we want to roleplay even if it's not the most powerful build. I know I build my char that way, and make some choices for survivability and others solely for the pleasure of a certain type of combat.
I enjoyed having to agonize over what skill to spend points on as I leveled, what skills to pick now, which put off until later. It made my choices more meaningful. It made them interesting. It added a lot to the game.
Now that my character is mature and I accumulate gold at a reasonable rate, I'm still glad I can't just respec at no cost. it would just make the game too easy for me, and it would be boring to me.
