I'm still playing around with it, but it appears if you button mash for a pbae bomb, the animation takes place and your magicka is deducted, but no summon and no explosion (i.e., no damage). If I slowwwwwly press the button seems to work.

    I too have noticed that repeated use of summon and exploding the vol familiar will lead to it not summoning at all while still draining magicka.

    Is this a bug? I been noticing that too I thought at first they inflated the magicka cost to curb imp bombing but I'm thinking less so since sometimes I don't see the imp. Seems an inverse of the double xplosion bug from launch. :( Zeni please un-nerf my scamp. He's fun. and he's the best aoe I got straight summoning.

    Didn't they implement some sort of delay to avoid sorcs in batswarms 3shoting people with the volatiles?

    It's another one of those Instant casts...

    The Cast is instant, the animation is not, just like Force Shock, for instance. It's a delay provided through animation, not explicitly stated in the spell.

    The cast is instant, freeing you to do other things, but the effect still takes time to materialize. When you mash, you're effectively cancelling the summons before it completed. Since the cast was 'Instant,' it still happily takes you magicka.

    the only good news is, with the passives, I believe you still get your 10%/15% return.
    Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

    But this was not an issue before this recent patch. It is a bug, plain and simple.

    This was definitely introduced with the patch. Also, if it's an animation issue, why would volatile familiar not follow animation clipping like other skills?

    I do not get any mana back. my mana just evaporates when summoning and dismissing. Look I get that some abilities are op like un-nerfed BE, but familiar wasn't that broken. I rarely ever did enough damage to be worthwhile mostly it was just for the stun. I'm hoping this is a straight up bug because it's absurd that the only way i could get a good aoe is storm magic. I'm trying to go straight summoning and imp's only good pet for pvp. Twinkie doesn't do nearly any damage and dies too easily.

    They broke night silence set cause it had to be adjusted cause of vampires. We had a epidemic early game with players soloing warbands with nonstop batswarms. We had a problem with midgame mist balls being uncatchable. We have zerg balls running around spamming batswarms and pulsar. Every emp or past emp was/is a vampire. majority of the population is vampires. They let vampires carry scrolls that stack harness magicka on top of mistform while using rapid manuevering. And now this. How long they going to let a subclass destroy this game, if something is messed up, key ingredient is always vampire.

    This is clearly a bug. No game company would ever purposefully set a skill up to consume mana but have no effect.

    @WarrioroftheWind_ESO, volatile familiar damage is based off of max magicka. If you have a good level of magicka the familiar is ok. If you push it to soft cap and beyond, it might be the highest damage AoE that isn't an ultimate. If you are having damage issues with the familiar something is wrong. Message me if you want a few tips on boosting magicka.

    I could be wrong, but I am fairly certain you can't use mistform carrying a scroll. I am positive some of the people I ran with that were carrying them were vampires, and I enver saw them pop it.

    Everything else sounds like a lot of QQ.

    Incidentally, volatile familiar had a bug for awhile where it would explode twice. That's why it was so popular in pvp. Does this still exist? Was the intended fix in this patch? That would be the problem right there.

    They reduced familiar damage significantly to compensate for the bug. They fixed the bug and returned the damage back to normal. The using mana when button mashing thing came along for the ride.

    I soloed vet Razak's Wheel just hours before servers went down. More than likely I wouldn't have been able to had I attempted it post patch. Damage was fine before when he was detonating properly. Now I can't get him to go off more than once or twice because the other two times he's supposed to go off he doesn't even spawn and it eats up my mana.

    And I don't need any advice on anything. I have no interest in the min/maxing BS that ruined my experience in other MMOs. I don't need to be told what abilities to use nor how to get my HP up higher than it is to run a lowbie dungeon. Keep min/maxing to oneself.

    Guys, OP is absolutely correct in his description. Please /bug ingame and describe what happened, I did the same, to make them aware and we maybe have a chance this willl be fixed somewhere in the future...

    This patch destroyed a lot of skills that worked before. It is not intentional that you drain your magikca without effect in heated situations.

    That's fine, but then complaints about Twinkie's damage should be kept to oneself. When someone goes out of their way to help, instead of being rude, you could just not respond or say 'no thank you.'
