Download Speed and Gigabytes of download?

Need some help here understanding where I'm going wrong.

1. Launcher says I'm downloading in excess of 26 gig.(this is for the first bunch, there usually is a second bunch somewhat smaller amount, maybe approaching a total of 50 Gig)

2. Download is reported at 170+ kb per second.

3. Percentage downloaded is comparable to what would be expected for a 50 Gig download.

So I am expecting my usual 26 hours of downloading.

Why is a 6 gig update changing to a 50+ gig download?

Is there something I can do about it?

    Hey there @Romo,

There are times when the launcher verifies the files in your installation during a patch, which can look like a rather large download. On the left, it will say "Checking Download" or "Applying Patch" when these sections are occurring.

If it says "downloading," please let us know and we'll be happy to continue helping.

Thank you for your response and time.

But the launcher says "downloading" with no changes for last 2+ hours.

There was an earlier time when it applied the initial "depot" files, version etc, but other than that, it appears to be downloading the entire set of files for the game.

Well, it < sounds > like he is on a dial-up connection with that slow of a download speed. Mine downloaded at 3.x mB/s === that's BYTES NOT BITS.

    Thank you *** Cable :)
    If I wanted a Signature I would have a Signature --- but i don't want one so I don't have one.

Just throw a little math in there and for 6Gigs it would be about 8 hours, not 26.

As to your speed, ya lucked out.. :p

This is basically what is happening to me also. It is redownloading the entire game at the worst possible time.

This has happened to me on all the large patches and with the game files getting larger and larger, it will take longer and longer.

Sitting at 52% now, been over 16 hours.

Well after 25 hours the download said the update was done.

Tried to log in, immediately got "fatal error", tried again got the same.

Ran a repair, am now downloading 25 gig again.

    Sigh.

Just reviewed all the files, in the depot only 19 DAT files were updated with the version file. Most of the updated flies were the 1 kilo flies...

All other files(game, vo_eng) were updated.

Taking 20 + hours to download sound like you have an absolutely TERRIBLE connection which leads to the possibility / likelyhood of corrupted files, which it seems you have.

Are you on a dial up connection?
If possible, switch to cable. If already on cable, I'd be really upset with them for such a crappy slow connection. Can you upgrade to faster speeds?

Also, how old is your modem and router?

I recently got one of the new UHD tv's and in order to stream Netflix ( or any other streaming ) I discovered I had to upgrade my system to DocSys 3.0 equipment.

And my stuff was only 3 / 4 years old but it was out of date.

But without upgrading I kept getting constant buffering and dropped connections. Since upgrading it is perfect.

    AND ESO WORKS BETTER TOO.

    Willie, Willie....

    1. All my gear is up to date.. router even running in AC mode( N is so old school).
    2. No cable here..
    3. DSL wandered in about 3 years ago, been over subscribed since then, so low bandwidth can you say.

I know it is slow, I have to accept that. Willing to download updates, but why the whole damn game? is it my launcher not up to date? is it something else?

The "corrupted files" have only happened on this update, not on any others since the original startup date of the game....

Note several other people have reported they are downloading the whole game and not just the update. Doesn't sound like a connection related problem to me.

Currently experiencing similar problems, getting Fatal error 6 when launching the game. currently running the repair, and downloading the nearly 30Gb files now, still 19Gb to go but this isnt the first time it has happened on a patch day. Have tried all the normal fixes Zos suggest, running as admin, deleting the ProgramData folder and rerunning, checking if the launcher is up to date etc etc same old BS having to download the entire game again when running their repair function. Despite odds being theres only a small error in there somewhere. Will post again in a few hours when its finished downloading, eta 2 more hours.

    2. Download is reported at 170+ kb per second.
    ...

    Is that 170kBytes/second, or 170kBits/second?

Mine downloads at a steady 1.9mBytes/second which is pretty much as fast as my link can go.

If it starts off fast, but then goes slower, my guess is that your ISP is throttling you (AKA 'traffic shaping'). They probably think you're using torrents or something. Using a VPN in order to change how the traffic looks helps some people.

It's bytes old bean. It's that "fast" for everything.... surfing, playing the game, reading e-mail, etc. ad nausem.....

Does not start off faster and get slower... that is what it is...."which is pretty much as fast as my link can go".

It is not me, it is not my ISP, when TESO launcher starts downloading the entire game instead of just the patch.....

That's why I asked for help in understanding this problem.. not for comments that say in reality: 'it's your ISP', 'it's your machine', etc.....

And after 51+ hours of downloading and redownloading the 50 Gig game(when all I wanted was a 6Gig patch), I finally can play, very well thank you, at 170+ kBps....

And the LAST thing I want to see ever again is : " launcher verifies the files in your installation during a patch, which can look like a rather large download".

It not only "looks like" a BFD, when it is the entire GAME it is a BFD....

And I'm not directing this all at you, just the responses in general, I'm sure you're just trying to help...but after 51 hours I'm a little tired? stressed? a very unhappy camper?
