Nerf light armor and buff medium? Why can't we just buff medium Zeni?

@ZOS Why keep nerfing when you can just buff the under powered things in the game?

Basically, medium armor gets a huge buff, bow gets a huge buff and uppercut gets a much needed buff. Light armor gets a huge nerf, going from 42% max spell pen to 28% spell pen. (a decrease by 1/3) The new trait for armor gives a buff to medium armor stamina builds because they will take less damage from spells.
I am on board with all of the buffs to stamina/medium armor builds (except maybe the snipe buff) but why do you have to keep trying to buff and nerf everything to perfection instead fix things and buff everything else that needs to be stronger. Stop nerfing everything, it ruins builds. Make other builds more viable, stop nerfing good builds trying to balance the game.

✭Considering that spell pen is WAY OP atm and in most cases is IGNORING all spell resistance I dont see the issue.Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.
Werewolf is not equal to Vamps/Bats. -

No the OP thing right now is the broken spell pen on the sharpened trait for weapons. When that is fixed people will cap at 40 spell pen instead of 50% which is the hard cap.Meh, it's not even a serious nerf. It also buffs light armor as a counter to light armor, which is kind of funny. I think it is entirely justified. Not sweating it.

Heavy needs some buffs but I agree they need to take it slow. Finish up medium and get it going first then check and see how heavy does in relation. -

This doesnt ruin any builds, the act of buffing something while nerfing something else does. It is allot harder to hit two moving objects than to hit one stationary with one moving and that is what they are doing with the buffing of stamina and nerfing of magicka

This thread isnt about me "throwing a fit over it" this thread is about zeni nerfing and buffing at the same time when I think it is better to buff everything to the same level because you force people to change their builds more when you have things being nerfed and buffed instead of just nerfed.Ryzium__________________Alliance: Aldmeri Dominion- V12 Sorc - Clodel

✭The answer to the OP's more general question of "why nerf when you can buff" is Power Creep.
Basically, if you try to balance the game by only buffing the"underperforming" stuff, then everything becomes overpowered, and the game becomes too easy. Then you have to buff the enemies/content to compensate. As such, you've basically had to readjust the entire game just to get back to an even playing field.
On the other hand, if you have one armor that is overpowered, one that is underpowered, and one that is just right, you don't buff the just right and underpowered set. You nerf the overpowered set, and buff the underpowered one. You accomplish the same end result with like 1,000% less effort.
The first case, you also get a lot of people who get bored of the game when it is too easy, and they leave. Then when you finally do buff the enemies to make it challenging again, the people who liked it easy leave, meaning that you have a severely reduced game population by the time you are done. -

If we buff everything to match the most powerful (or OP) thing in the game then they will have to buff up the encounters to match which is a de facto nerf of *everything*
so, buff up a bunch of stuff then nerf everything, or strip some of the power from one thing?
I think it's pretty obvious which choice has the least risks and greatest rewards
