Simple question: What determines AP per kill?

I don't always notice the amount I earn but I've noticed in videos posted that it can vary from a dozen or two points to several hundred points. Anyone have any idea of the variables involved?

I know of a couple of variables but I think there are more... (And my descriptions of them may not be completely accurate, I don't know much about them)

    1) character levels- yours and the foe.
    2) time between consecutive kills on any given player- kill someone once, you get full points. Kill them again within a certain time and you only get a certain percentage of the points, and I think that percent may keep going down incrementally for every kill within the timer.

XP/VP level/rank, Alliance War rank, or both?

I'd imagine there is something in place to stop you and your friend farming each other, so points probably scale on repeated kills, as mentioned above.

I don't have any numbers, but I have noticed I've been gaining less and less as I've gone up the veteran ranks. Perhaps because I'm now the same level (or higher) than the people I kill.

Character level does seem to play a factor though.

    It isn't just Level/VR Rank.

The quickest video I could think of comes from the latest BattleMaster's Corner, which I relink below. Go to 14:20 for the start of a fight, then check out the AP awarded on screen at 14:29. Two VR12 foes one on one and the AP gain is 855 for a two-shot kill.

Here is how AP works based upon my extensive experience in Cyrodiil.

AP Per kill is roughly 800 for a kill against a VR12 Player as a VR12 player.

Added to this are you home keep and enemy keep bonus which have a maximum of 15% .

Then there is the underdog bonus. How this works is beyond my (or anyone) understanding which is multiplicative with the home bonus and apparently is rewarded for more than keep captures.

I got almost 1100 AP for a solo kill on Chillrend the other day.

All that said, the AP you receive can be reduced by several factors. AP you receive is split equally to your entire group in range to receive it (plus a small group bonus that I haven't figured out).

AP for that players base AP (say 800) is split evenly based upon damage done to that player's HEALTH, breaking shields unfortunately doesn't give you a bigger share of the AP. If that player heals then the total health pool just becomes larger, your damage isn't reset or diminished. There is a reset period of time of at least 5 minutes, and there is a minimum threshold of percentage of damage that needs to be done by you or your group (much like experience) before you receive any AP.

If a player has been killed by you or other players recently the AP rewarded is further reduced. Some people have said it is an hour but I don't believe it is so. The people who do this "oil pot farming" and trade kills probably have better understanding of that than I.

While solo farming groups of people I average anywhere from 40-60K AP an hour, 30-40K of that from kills and the rest from ticks if the battle is won.

I could go on to describe exactly how Ticks work but I've done that already in another post and if someone is interested I could dig it up and post it here.

    Thanks @ezareth_ESO‌

I will have to get better at it then as right now I get 10 to 100 most of the time, with the occassional 200-300. Of course many of those are much lower level/rank.

Yes if you're fighting mainly in zerg fights where players rush in and die many times you won't get much AP from them. In a zerg fight your best AP generator will be a meatbag catapult. Not only will I do decent damage but it drastically reduces survivability of your targets and thus increases your odds of getting AP

I try to target people on siege, or good defensive players who haven't died much to maximize my AP. Barring that I'll play bait to the many nightblades who like to snipe people. They are typically worth full AP if you can anticipate the first hit and kill them before they slink away.

Yeah I use meatbags for keep defense and offense firing into breaches but even when I snipe with a bow and get most of the damage for the kill it's still not much. I usually get AP from events like captures/defenses with cats supplementing and weapon kills as spare change.

Is there a higher amount of AP awarded to a lower level killing a higher level? I am VR7 and I am currently averaging about 15:1 kill ratio (15 solo kills to 1 death) and many of the solo kills are VR11 and VR12.
I don't have any addons right now due to the "Unknown Error" issue I was experiencing so I don't see the AP gains.

killing someone repeatedly over and over again in a short window of time will decrease the AP you earn from killing them(meaning a lot of players get no AP from me about 20 minutes into me playing:)) im sure rank goes into it. idk about PvP rank.

There is no bonus that I recall for killing a player higher level than yourself. AP gains mirror experience gains very closely.

I believe the window is 2min from a rez before a player is back to a full worth of AP.
