Pete Hines said what?!

As is the norm for games of this type, we had ramped up a large workforce to develop a game of vast scale, and ramped up our customer service to handle the expected questions and community needs of The Elder Scrolls Online at launch," Bethesda VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines told Joystiq. "Now that we are nearly 6 months post launch, we have a thriving online community in a game that runs smoothly.

Simply, not at all correct, well ok, we are nearly six months past release, but...
  • Thriving Online Community that is constantly ignored (except for the elite few)
  • A game that DOES NOT run smoothly and core game mechanics still broken since BETA testing.

So I ask a very serious question, WTF Pete Hines, WTF?

Runs fine for me. Not sure about the game mechanics since I haven't played all classes but my main works.

Ignored how? Because they don't respond to al 300 posts about the same topic and instead release 1 blanket statement.

Vet is too hard , vet gets nerfed, want more PVP? Imperial city is coming. Don't like bet rank? Champ system is coming. Werewolf sucks? Adding skill. Stamina sucks? Making medium more viable. Heavy armor? Don't know what the problem is I use it fine but I don't worry about numbers. Don't like loot drops they are reworking that too.

Neither of you have issues in populated PvP scenarios? Neither of you have hung animations? Neither of you are a Werewolf, or have tried playing as one, I assume? Both of you like 100+ queue lines for PvP on the only server that has action? Both of you like the current class balances? Both of you think trials in their current state are awesome?

Anyway, my point being, this game needs a ton of work, most that should have been corrected far before a 6 month release date mark.

To say you are letting go of staff because your game owns face... is just sad and kind of evil.

Gotta echo this. Whether in Cyrodiil or pve land my game runs fine.

Agreed the game needs balancing and random fixes, but as far as playability I can do everything I've tried.

Nope haven't hit problems in PVP. Never been qued for it either. I just became a werewolf so still messing with it but they did say the got some werewolf updates coming. Classes will always need balancing. Wow is still trying to balance classes for Pete's sake. No animation problems either. Not that people don't have problems but not as many have problems as did at the beginning. Yesterday one of my guild mates hit lag. The other 78 of us on didn't. Just saying.

Same. I haven't had a single crash since early access launch, nor any lag at all since the beta stress test. There were some critical bugs post launch, but I have yet to run into one since.

I think Hines hit it spot on. The game does have a thriving community, and the game does run smooth and stable for most people, most of the time.

But that's my opinion, based on the facts at hand as I've observed them.

And who are these supposed "elite few"? I think OP has been listening to too much "we are the 99%" stuff online and is bleeding it into ESO. Or perhaps there really is a syndicate of elite players who meet up in shadowy rooms with Hines to plot the game's downfall in secret...

Yep, same here for me. Don't have a problem in either PVP or PVE. As to core game mechanics, sure, werewolf form could benefit with a few changes, but overall I don't have a problem with them.

And the community in-game would have to be one of the best I've encountered in MMO's - for the most part, I've found the people are helpful and friendly.

I also don't feel that the community has been ignored, with real grievances and issues being listened to, acknowledged and in most cases dealt with (or dealing with in future updates)

What's interesting to me is that CS staff was ramped up for launch. Wouldn't the same (or larger) ramp up be needed for the console release, especially given how console players outnumber PC players? I suppose a console release is not imminent if they don't need extra staff for what is undoubtedly a larger influx of players compared to the PC launch.

I will agree that I would very much like to see some UI changes and stamina build balancing, along with whatever bug fixes they can deliver.

However, for me and my level 1-49 characters, this game runs very well. Not perfectly, but very well.

I understand, but do not experience, the pain of those who do not find it this way and I know that a lot of PvP people are very upset.

What I mainly look for in news about the game is information about upcoming features and functionality, not information on upcoming bug fixes and balance.

I can certainly understand why people might want to know about upcoming bug fixes and balance. I do wish they would provide more information about bugs and other fixes, and to be honest, they have started to improve. While the cynical among us would not be pacified by such information, the bulk of the people would find the information useful.

My ESO doesn't run fluently, it crashes at least 1 time every 4h of PvP, I get stuck in the Charge animation at least 2-3 times in the same timeframe, sometimes my caster simply stays in knocked down position on the floor, both of which make it impossible to use any skills, many doors in PvP are not usable, Evil Hunter + Bow one-shots me at least 2 times an evening, when going against Zerg, my AoEs deal dmg to random people while the enemies healers have auto-target the lowest-hp-target thx to smart-healing mechanics, Oil is completely op when used against Vampires too...

I could continue this list endlessly, but it all comes down to people playing end-game or still be cought by the early game. The early game is really all beautiful, and it's really a lot fun, but the things I mentioned in the 1st paragraph are simply no-goes.

The only reason I currently continue on playing, are the friends I have, and some mere hope, that Zenimax will start focussing the really important things, like Bugs and Imbalances and Champion levels, instead of raising the level-cap to VR14.
    Noricum

Thx to Giny, Sarana, Thaili, Derra, Cherahim, Gloy, Raweelz and Drimacus, you make the game worth playing even with AoE-caps, no usefull progression past Assault / Support Rank 10, and with PvP being not even close to balanced.

Yeah probably. I mean when I look at their updates, upcoming changes and patch notes it does seem like they are listening. But they don't respond to every single persons post 10
Seconds after it's made so people think they aren't listening.

Yeah, I don't know. I run along fine but then just the other day, suddenly I cannot crouch, block, attack or any action but run around. Had to re-log in order to fix it.

I still have issues with the templar charge ability where I have a couple second delay before performing another action and go through my target, but I don't have that problem with the 1h and shield version.

Every once in a while, I still have a second delay on weapon swapping where I hit to swap, go to use an ability right after but what really happens is the ability on the first weapon fires off and then the weapon swaps.

So yeah. Runs good but there are still plenty of bugs.

The game has always run smoothly for me and continues to do so. Since launch I've had one broken quest that ran fine when I cancelled and renewed it, and I've had a brief spell after the EU server relocation when a few corpse interactions failed, but other those few things I've had no issues whatsoever. By far and away one of the smoother MMO launches for me. I wasn't greatly bothered by gold sellers and in contrast to a number of MMOs I've had no login queues whatsoever - whereas just the other night my server was locked with a login queue on another well-known MMO that has been out since 2004 ;)!

I appreciate that some have had a different experience, particularly in Cyrodil, but let's not pretend that the game is broken or that nothing has been done since beta to address the few genuine concerns that players have had beyond the usual PvP-dominated class balancing moans.

    Runs smoothly for me.

But--big yes on the "ignored" part. They simply DONT answer a lot of questions people have asked about repeatedly, ever. I'm personally especially annoyed by the little things, like guild store sale confirmation emails not showing what sold, or are they ever going to add a /follow command, or deal with the atrocious Quick slot control.

But--they NEVER respond to those questions--preferring to instead make vague promises about stamina builds and balance and new zones. Over and over.
