We started with self-instanced "questing" (cause who needs groupd in an MMO anyway) and a non-instanced public node system..
Now that we are improving the grouping, can we also improve upon the node/crate thing? ala GW2 to name a example?
Because in the case of cup/crates, you have five different types of people going after the same thing:
- motif hunters
- recipe hunters
- provisioning mat hunters
- solvent (alchemy) hunters
- farmers that sell prov mats in stores for 6 and 7k a pop (and that's for t1 mats)
On top of that, you have a respawn rate that to my experience (log and check my toons and you will see how -not- a stranger i am to farming) are illogically slow.
What happens? You need only one, ONE person a touch ahead of you, and you are screwed.
Extra bonus on top because of the way you guys decided to handle inventory space. Makes people very, very picky. At the expense of others. One finds half empty crates/cupboards most of the time. Cannot tell you how many times i was going around simply emptying them up (they leave the crap and keep going) feeling stupid for doing so as all i'd be doing would be setting the next guy up. Nothing for me.
Because in the case of harvest nodes, you have four different types of people going after the same things:
- the people farming mats so they can auction them
- the poeple farming certain mats because its easier done in low level areas than in theirs and/or (they think) less competition
- the people that despite what their aim is, loot for example the jute and leave the worms for the next poor sod to find..see inventory above..or maybe just immaturity; this happens elsewhere too..result is, same as above with half empty crates
- the people trying to actually level their profession. Doubly unlucky if at the level's intended level. They cannot one-shot packs of mob, harvest node, gogogo
Now there are many ways to solve all the above, it's just that i (see: personally) think that self-instanced nodes would be best. I do not know how much thought went into this, or what your expecations in regards to player behaviour were, but.. problem..

Should we have instanced gathering nodes/crates? (think GW2) 39 votes
Yes (if not identical, explain)
